surrounded by rich and vibrant blooms.
“I am Maureen. A stay-at-home mother of three, a lover of all things crafty and creative, and I make things by hand, at home in small town Pennsylvania.” Maureen Cracknell lives in small town Potter Country, Pennsylvania. She is a mother, wife, blogger, quilter, and lover of all things creative and handmade. Just a little over four years ago she started sewing and blogging at Maureen Cracknell Handmade; a simple, positive, and creative blog where she loves to share her projects, fabric stashes, sewing, and special family moments. Two years into blogging, she opened a Facebook page with intentions to share and connect with people who, like her, live with a passion to sew and quilt--most of who follow her blog, which has been supported and grown to over eighty thousand followers. These supporters continually give her encouragement and the opportunity to follow her path of creating and sharing. She’s been a proud member of several fabric manufacturer design teams throughout the years, including Art Gallery Fabric’s popular Fat Quarter Gang, and continues to work as an Independent Designer for Janome Sewing Machines. She is incredibly grateful for each of the opportunities that have led her where to where she is today!

1. Hi Maureen! Congratulations on releasing your latest collection, Autumn Vibes! Since the name lends itself to be the main inspiration, how did this cozy season become a fabric line? The beautiful colors and happy vibes of autumn captured my heart so many years ago. I truly am a “fall girl” through and through! It was inevitable that once I started designing fabric that I would have to create a collection of prints to celebrate this favorite season, all in perfect, autumnal tones! 2. Speaking of autumn, what are some of your favorite fall recipes? Making my go-to fall recipes is always something I look forward to after a hot summer spent avoiding the stove. Soup has away of warming us up from the inside out and I LOVE making soup for my family! My favorites to make and enjoy are “lentil & chickpea curry,” “kale and white bean with spicy sausage,” a “loaded, baked potato” (for my kids). I also LOVE the “gluten-free, seasonal pumpkin bread” and “pancake mixes” that are available this time of year at Trader Joe’s, and making “apple and peach berry crisps” for desert!
3. What do you love most about living in Pennsylvania? Does it inspire your work? It’s our “Pennsylvania Falls” that I love the most, and it absolutely inspired this collection! Folks travel from all over to see the brilliant, autumnal colors that saturate Pennsylvania’s lush landscapes from late September to mid-October and I feel so lucky to live right smack in the middle of it! It’s truly breathtakingly beautiful to live in PA. during the fall season. 4. Describe Autumn Vibes in three words. Beautiful, festive, cozy. 5. We love the adorable fox in your “Foxes in Fall” print! Is there a story behind this cute, forest critter?! I’ve always had a special affection for the “fox.” Perhaps it’s my inner spirit animal, I should probably look into that! I’ve always found them beautiful and mysterious and sweet and regal. For my “Foxes in Fall” print, I drew just one single, fox sketch and I loved it’s “adorable, wild look” so much that it became my repeat design and is perhaps the heart of this Autumn Vibes collection.
6. What would you absolutely LOVE to see makers sew with Autumn Vibes?! I worked hard to create a collection of prints and colors that would make the perfect quilt to leave on the sofa , all season long. I think this “Autumn Vibes Fabric Lookbook” has some wonderful quilt inspiration that are doable for every skill level, and I hope makers will join me in making an Autumn Vibes quilt! 7. The best part about autumn is… ...the times we share as a family enjoying those big bowls of soup, weekend fires under the stars, picking pumpkins for the porch, walking to the “Falling Leaves Festival,” the cooler nights and celebrating the season, together!
