You can explore the emotive impacts of colour in your space, for example different shades of colours can bring different moods.

Blue can make you feel calm and tranquil at home - but it can also be cold, so be careful oabout the tones used - if you use dark blue, it can make you feel peaceful and successful.

Black is associated with power, sophistication and mystery while violet can make you feel creative. If you want to feel joyful, optimistic and energetic use yellow, for balance and growth use green, and last but not least, for passion and energy use red.

SELECT COMPLIMENTARY COLOURS TO CREATE A THEME

There are also great ways to combine colours - For example, if you want a beachy feel, use sandy neutrals, blues and greens with artworks of beaches or landscapes. The colours look fantastic together giving a clean outdoorsy feel and the sand tones ‘warm up’ the blues.

Many people use this option for holiday homes and childrens' rooms because it’s fresh, cheerful and easy to create. Try picking a theme word you like and google it for room ideas - try 'Beach interior design' for example or '2019 interiors Trends' which will give you more ideas

Bringing yellow into a neutral grey room is easy with an artwork. The addition of a yellow cushion or accessories here would also work well if you're a yellow kind of a person want to cheer up a grey dominated room!

STYLE

It’s really important that you LOVE the artworks you choose, and so if you don’t already know, spend a good amount of time browsing art online and save the ones you love to your wishlist collection to define your personal style.

At Artfuly.com, you can click the ‘heart icon’ on any artwork to add it to your wishlist collection while you're considering.

You might also want to make a ‘mood board’ of colours, room styles, furniture and artworks that you’re attracted to. Make a collage of things ripped from magazines of printed images of all the things you love on one large poster and once you’re happy, go ahead and create that look which we explain in the next section.

CHOOSE AN ARTWORK TO SUIT YOUR THEME

If you have a larger budget, this is easy, but for tiny budgets there are also clever options to achieve the look you want once you have it clearly defined - often simply with paint and accessories in-keeping with your colour theme which you can even find in charity shops and home sales.

‘Nordic’ (Scandinavian design) is a well-known term in the interior design scene which is simple to create because it is a design movement characterised by simplicity, minimalism and functionality - think painting all of your furniture white and having one huge colourful artwork on your feature wall with a few colour-matched accessories, and you’ve quickly and easily ‘Got the look’!

Once you have defined your own style (or the style for this room), this forms the basis for the look that you want to create. Pop art, for example is a really popular way to make your apartment look cool and modern, even if you have boring white walls as many rental apartments do.

Try browsing the internet for interior styles that you love, select one and then find a great artwork to match. Whilst you repaint your room and buy any new furniture or textiles you can order your chosen artwork and have it delivered to hang once the walls are dry.

Here at Artfuly we have managed many artwork commissions by a clients favourite artist to match a colour swatch provided (such as the ones found in all paint stores) - this guarantees that your new artwork will fit perfectly in your new colour scheme.

SIZE & PLACEMENT

Sometimes less is more. If you want an eclectic modern art piece then you can choose one large or oversized artwork placed on the main wall.

Don’t be afraid to choose an oversized artwork which can really make a statement, but remember to consider your room size and whether there will there be enough room for the painting to speak to you.

Another approach is to create a gallery wall of many smaller artworks placed together. Be bold and arrange as many frames as you can! For those on a budget, this can be a great approach since you can find matching or complimentary frames at yard sales, optionally paint them all the same colour and insert affordable original artworks into them. Illustrations by emerging artists for example give a really cool funky look and are also much less expensive than larger art by more established artists.

REDECORATE THEN CHOOSE ACCESSORIES, ORDER YOUR ART, HANG IT AND ENJOY

It can be a nice feeling to support emerging contemporary artists, and we specialise in finding new young artists, whom you can find on our site by selecting ‘Illustration’, ‘digital art’ or ‘pop art’ in the filter.
