Carved by hand, in the form of a bird- perhaps an eagle or a wild turkey. The shape fanning gives this form its name - a palma from the frond shape of palm trees. The athletes from Mesoamerica played a ballgame while wearing a hip yoke with a palma-shaped fan made of leather, wood, or rubber to protect their chests from the impact of the hard rubber balls.

With a globular olla on verso and an incredible effigy of a priest on front, both connected via three large tubes and thick handle. The priest presents in a nearly full shamanic transformation into a serpent being, with serpents comprising the hands, flooding out around the olla rim, and line the broad skirt flanges with two-headed versions. The removable whistle head of the larger figure presents snakes on his brow, headdress, eyebrows, and tongue to create an amazingly detailed presentation.

Used by dipping the hook into shallow water and shaking it up and down. Jostling motion would entice an octopus to wrap its tentacles around the hook end, then fisherman would pull lure upward so as to pierce creature’s hard beak, soft body, or one of many tentacles.
