Once upon a time in the winter mountains of the Korean peninsula, there lived a fierce and cruel tiger king named Jinho. He ruled over the entire animal kingdom with absolute power and fear.

The tyrannical king hunted and oppressed his subjects mercilessly every day.

One frosty night under the light of the moon, Jinho was paid a visit by a wise old owl named Minsoo. Minsoo had lived through many dynasties and observed many kings. The kings that reigned before Jinho were always benevolent leaders who cared for their subjects. However, under Jinho’s rule, the animals suffered greatly. Minsoo cautiously warned the tiger king to change his wicked ways. Jinho laughed at the thought.

“Who dares oppose me, the almighty king?”

He was right. None of the animals dared to oppose him, for his powerful roar and sharp claws struck terror into the hearts of all. Minsoo with his piercing gaze, once again pleaded with the king. Pestered by Minsoo’s persistence, Jinho let out a low growl before pouncing on the owl.

With one swift motion, Minsoo had lost his left eye. Before Jinho could strike again, Minsoo flew away into the night.

The next morning, Jinho awoke to a most bewildering sight. He was no longer the majestic tiger king but instead, he was a small, commoner mouse. The rocky mountains had transformed into an intimidating labyrinth of craggy rocks, dense forests, and treacherous cliffsides with enormous, predatory creatures.

Hunger overcame Jinho quickly and he was met with what seemed to be an impossible task of hunting. In the past, he had reveled in the art and caused fear, but now the tables had turned.

Every shadow, every rustling leaf, and every distant growl sent shivers down his spine. The once-mighty king was now a tiny, vulnerable creature, and the world that had cowered before him now seemed ready to consume him.

As he scurried through the underbrush in search of crumbs and bits of discarded food, he encountered other animals, many of whom he used to torment. They recognized Jinho and seized the opportunity to taunt and threaten him. Jeering laughter followed him wherever he went, and Jinho's ears rang with cruel remarks and mocking cries.

The predators that had once cowered in his presence now regarded him as prey. Birds of prey swooped down, talons ready to seize him, and serpents slithered dangerously close to his trembling form. Jinho's life as a mouse was a constant battle for survival, and he was learning firsthand the hardships his subjects had endured during his oppressive rule.

As Jinho scurried away in seek of a protective shelter, he heard a familiar hoot of an owl.

Startled, he froze in place, his heart pounding. He was well aware that owls were predators, and in his current form, he was even more vulnerable to their talons.

Out of the shadows, Minsoo emerged. With his one remaining eye, he assessed the small mouse before him. Jinho stared right back at Minsoo regrettably. Unbeknownst to Jinho, Minsoo had been observing him from his lofty perches. He had seen the transformation and knew that this mouse was the once-mighty ruler who had caused so much suffering.

Jinho, still trembling, squeaked in response, "I don't know how this happened, but I've learned my lesson. Please, I beg for your wisdom Minsoo. Please help me become a better ruler."

Minsoo contemplated this plea. He saw something in Jinho's eyes that he hadn't seen before — a genuine desire for redemption and change. The owl had long held a glimmer of hope that Jinho might one day see the error of his ways. He agreed to help, but he had one condition: Jinho must show true remorse and a deep understanding of the suffering he had caused.

From that day onward, Minsoo became Jinho's mentor and guide. He shared stories of great rulers who had ruled with wisdom, compassion, and fairness, and he began to teach Jinho the ways of benevolent leadership. Jinho, once a fierce and cruel king, became a humble student, absorbing the wisdom and lessons offered by the owl.

As the days turned into weeks, the humble mouse, began to change. He helped his fellow animals, protected them from danger, and shared his meager food. He experienced firsthand the hardships and suffering of his subjects, and this transformation ran deep. The once-frightened mouse became more confident and more compassionate. Minsoo's guidance truly had a profound impact on Jinho.

“I vow that I will never injure another life ever again. May the jade rabbit come down from the moon and take my life.”

And then Jinho did something unpredictable. Jinho had scratched out his left eye, mimicking the injury he gave Minsoo. Minsoo, in all his years, had never seen such a sight. The tiger king now sat before him on the ground. The full moon bathed Jinho in its silvery light. His powerful frame was illuminated by the moon, and his golden fur glistened like a beacon in the night. He was a new king.

“Thank you Minsoo for your guidance. I will rectify all the suffering I’ve caused. I swear on it.”

He addressed them, "I stand before you not as the tiger king who once ruled with cruelty, but as a ruler who has learned the depths of his wrongdoings and seeks your forgiveness. I promise you a new era of benevolent rule, one where we live together in harmony and respect. Never again shall you live in fear and pain.”

The animals, moved by Jinho's words and the sincerity in his voice, began to express their willingness to give him a second chance. They recognized the profound transformation he had undergone, and they believed in the potential for a brighter future under his benevolent rule.

As the dawn of a new era enveloped the animal kingdom, Jinho, a compassionate tiger king, embraced his newfound responsibility with a sense of purpose and determination. The legacy of his address marked the beginning of a new era of harmony, where the animals of the mountains could live together in peace and prosperity.
