Can you give us a basic three-sentence overview of the event? Corks & Caps will feature tastings of beer from Red Gap Brewery and wine from wineries across Texas. A variety of food trucks will also be on hand offering food and desserts for purchase. A cigar area hosted by The Leaf Cigar Shop will be a featured component as well as samples of infused coffees hosted by Adams St. Coffee Co. Attendees can relax and enjoy these great tastes with live music by The Wonders.

Where is the event held and what makes this place so special? The event is held at Depot Plaza. The setting is ideal for the band, food trucks, yard games, and ease of access.

How many years has the event been taking place and has it changed any since its beginning? Corks & Caps began Friday September 18th, 2015 as a component of the Brownwood Reunion Celebration. In 2016 it was moved to the first Saturday of October and has grown each year. About how many people attend Corks & Caps and is everyone local? There were approximately 900-1,000 people that attended last year with about Âź of them being from out of town.

2 ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Does the event have entertainment and if so – share your thoughts here? We have a live band that performs under the pavilion. The bands we have chosen play a variety of genres of music and are always entertaining! We have also had other forms of art, such as a live mural, quilt show, and magicians. This year we will have Sharon Anders doing body art.

HAMILTON’S with JESSIE HAMILTON Jessie, tell us in a few sentences a little bit about you, your family, and your relationship to Brownwood. The Hamiltons (Bill, Jessie, and three daughters) moved to Brownwood in 1980 for my husband to continue his career in banking. As our daughters started at Baylor, I started working a few days a week for Pat and Gene Arthur at their dress shop. Ten years later, my husband and I had an opportunity to purchase the business. We were both quite active in the community at the time and felt led to make this commitment. When and where did “Hamilton's” get started? In November of 2003, Pat and Gene's closed their doors in what is now the Lyric Theatre, and moved two blocks down, to our newly renovated building at 500 Center Ave. The store reopened the next Monday as Hamilton's, a high-end specialty shop. This past June we celebrated our 54th year in our present location. Your building is iconic in the downtown district tell us a bit about its history. Once in the 60's, the former Bettis and Gibbs building was referred to as the “Neiman Marcus of Central Texas”. The restoration was a huge undertaking. It was a total renovation from the roof down and literally reconstructed the inside to the exterior walls, necessary due to a fire during the previous ownership. The building had been boarded up 8 years due to litigation. You have a variety of items from clothing to furniture in your store – how would you characterize the shopping experience. Our shop is full of hometown friendliness and a wide variety of items not found in Brownwood.

6 ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

What do you think sets local successful stores like Hamilton's apart for the big box variety or the online shopping trend? It’s our customer service, hands-on approach, and knowing our customers. You have a loyal base of shoppers – what do you do to keep them coming back year after year? Special events, special sales, promotions, and the smiling faces of our associates. Here's your chance to tell us something about being in the historic downtown area of Brownwood and what makes that special. We moved our business 2 blocks to stay on Center Avenue in order to practice what we believed in; supporting downtown retail, and the restoration and preservation of Historic buildings. Selling our former location, we feel was a winwin for Downtown. T his has enabled our community to now enjoy performances in our newly restored Lyric Theatre.
