Create a Masterpiece at

MUSE & MERLOT We asked Carolyn Wood a few questions about Muse and Merlot as well as a little information about her. Carolyn, tell us about your family: I am the wife of Wiley Wood married 12 years with three sons; Noah 10, Benjamin 8, Henry 3. How long have you been painting and studying art? I have been painting for 19 years, studying painting techniques since junior high all the

way through college. I was 13 when I took up painting with acrylics on canvas as a hobby and still practice at home today. What do you see in the people that are attending the Muse & Merlot event when you are overseeing the group? I can see a sense of creativity spark in many of those who participate in our painting event.

People who have never painted before often

find a new ability or interest in art that they never knew existed. Many people who attend will come back a second time and bring their friends. Muse and Merlot is enjoyable because the atmosphere is friendly and painting together is very relaxing and fun.

What painting will the group be focused on this month? In April we will recreate an art piece by the famous Art Nouveau Artist, Gustave Klimt, called “Sea Serpents.� How would you help encourage the first time painter or attendee of the Muse & Merlot? Novice painters are my favorite people to attend this class! No prior experience in painting is necessar y. I always reassure them that I will help them every step of the way as we paint and I must say their paintings always turn out great!! How long does the event last and do they need to bring anything with them? It takes two hours to finish a painting. Step-by-step instructions are given to complete the project and all supplies are provided. At the end you get to take your painting home with you. Participants are allowed to bring their own wine, beverages and snacks to enjoy while painting. Do you have any last words or thoughts for people that might consider attending? Muse and Merlot is great for men, women, couples, groups of friends or individuals wanting to have fun and be entertained through art! The April Muse & Merlot takes place at the Art Center in historic d ow n tow n B row nwo o d ( 2 17 F i s k Ave n u e ) .

Seats are $25 a person for the first 20 people and $30 for every ticket sold after that. Seating limited to 30 people, no holds. All participants will be supplied with the needed items to create their own 16x20 masterpiece. BOOTS, BAGS, & BINGO for KIDS! A familiar fundraiser around this area also happens to be a great deal of fun! The event begins at one pm, Saturday, April 7th. The activity includes ten games of Bingo (you get three cards per game) and prizes include designer purses, boots of all flavor with an additional forty door prizes and bonus winners drawn from the losing cards of the night. There will also be a live & silent auction during the evening. Add Hors d'oeuvres, desserts and drinks (non-alcoholic) for the entire evening, and one will have a great entertaining night.

The Heart of Texas Children's Advocacy Center has helped over 1200 kids in the past twenty months and is a child-focused center that coordinates the investigation, prosecution, and treatment of child abuse. The center has counselors, along with forensic interviewers and family advocates, that follow the kids through the courts and family circumstances that surround them. The center here in Brown County also serves six adjacent counties working to help children.

The Children's Advocacy Center partners with Court Appointed Special Advocate to raise the needed funds to help achieve the “match” for their grants. CASA begins work when a child enters the foster care system because his or her home is no longer safe, a judge may appoint a committed volunteer to help them. That volunteer is called a Court Appointed Special Advocate®, or CASA. The Advocacy Center
