YARNE The annual summer retreat, often referred to as the ‘rains retreat,’ is a tradition dating back to the time of the Buddha who established the retreat so that his monks could gather for an intensive period of study and meditation. In addition, by staying in a single location for the duration of the rainy season, the monks avoided harming many insects and other small beings that proliferate during the rainy season. Another benefit of the retreat is that it gives faithful patrons an opportunity to accumulate merit by making offerings of food and other needs. This year, the 45 day retreat is from August 15 through September 30 at Tara Abbey, Namo Buddha and VVI. To offer through HCF designate: Yarne~Tara Abbey; Yarne~VVI or Yarne~Namo Buddha

MEET OUR NEW VOLUNTEERS We are thrilled to have this lovely couple join the HCF team! MAGGIE SPICKERT-AMMONS ~ SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR In 2013, I was fortunate enough to spend 7 weeks assisting Debra Ann in working with our partners in Nepal. Now that I have the opportunity, I hope to continue to help HCF and expand their presence online. The work that HCF does has been an inspiration to me since I was very small and I am excited help the organization continue to grow. Currently, I work as an Ophthalmic Assistant in Colorado, and co-direct a small modern dance company. My husband Andrew and I spend as much of our free time as we can hiking or skiing in the beautiful Colorado Mountains.

ANDREW SPICKERT-AMMONS ~ WEB DEVELOPER I came to HCF through my wife, Maggie, after she introduced me to Debra Ann and the kind work that HCF does for those in need. Using my skills in marketing and web development I appreciate the opportunity to give back to a cause that has become near and dear to my heart. Maggie and I live in Wheat Ridge, Colorado with our two dogs, Kona and Kristofferson, where I am the director of marketing and associate broker for a business brokerage firm.
