Himalayan Children’s Fund News Dear Friends, At this writing Nepal remains in lockdown until at least July 22nd. The monastery and abbey remain sheltered and all are healthy and continuing study and practice as well as providing for those in need in the surrounding community.

As the situation grows more difficult in India, the monks remain in tight quarantine at VVI and Thrangu Rinpoche was granted permission to return to Nepal. He was driven straight through from India to Namo Buddha and arrived safely on the 15th of July.

SMD school is still the quarantine location for the young school monks and the staff has been developing a phased plan to help the lay students continue as much education as possible. If you are sponsoring a student at SMD we are in the process of sending you more detailed information.

SHREE MANGAL DVIP BOARDING SCHOOL In an effort to help the students continue the momentum of learning, SMD has created a phased plan to help the students learn remotely until they can gradually return to campus. Textbooks have been distributed to the elder students remaining in Kathmandu and online classes are being held for those with internet access. When movement is allowed again in Nepal, text books will be distributed in the villages along with whatever food and clothing is needed. Internet access will be improved wherever possible and some teaching will resume in the villages. SMD continues to support the teachers and other staff during the lockdown by paying salaries and providing food. The school may not have the means to continue full salaries for much longer and in that case will begin to reduce by percentages each month.

CREATIVE RECYCLING Always environmentally minded, the nuns and monks have been finding new uses for plastic soda bottles and discarded plumbing.
