Himalayan Children’s Fund News Dear Friends Please be assured that the HCF website and our contacts have not been compromised.

The fraud alert we sent on October 10th was not related to an HCF incident but rather to activity on the rinpoche.com website Rinpoche.com was hacked and the claim in the email of being a GoFundMe account was false ~ the link was connected to a personal PayPal account. The webmaster immediately purged and reset the website and the fraudulent email was reported to PayPal. The participation of HCF was an effort to help warn others to be aware since the email used Thrangu Rinpoche’s name and a banner from rinpoche.com. Fortunately there has been no harm that we are aware of Our new method of sending newsletters has been in the works for many months now and is totally unrelated to the hacking of rinpoche.com. Even though the 38th Kagyu Monlam is postponed, shedra monks are still preparing for the Karma GunchĂś. Debating nightly in the shrine hall, they will be ready whenever the winter debates can be rescheduled. The topic on this night? Is is necessary to know the Tibetan language in order to understand Buddhism!

SCENES FROM NUBRI HINANG MONASTERY Urgen Tsomo and Tashi Sangmo are the new Seniors who will be giving a year of service teaching and helping the young monks at Thrangu Hinang Monastery.

Sangye Bhuti and Nyima Lhamo who have served for the last year and a half will return to Kathmandu to begin 3 years of General Medicine studies to become Health Assistants. After certi cation they plan to return to the mountains to work

SCENES FROM TARA ABBEY At Tara Abbey daily life continues with study, debates, practice and service. The nyerpas (food managers) have the responsibility of shopping for the nuns and are aways masked and fully protected. The younger nuns have been practicing meditation and studying outside when possible. Recently, an evening Phul Rap Puja ( re puja) was performed ~ offering prayers for the suffering and deaths caused by the COVID-19 pandemic

CARES ACT CHARITABLE DONATION UPDATE The changes related to charitable giving due to the CARES Act allow an increase in tax deduction for 2020. Those who itemize on their tax return can deduct up to 100% of their AGI (60% previously). Corporations may deduct up to 25%. This applies only to cash contributions to a public charity, (not to private foundations or donor advised funds) and does not apply to gifts of appreciated stock. If a person does not itemize and takes the standard deduction, they can take a $300.00 ($600.00 for married couples) additional deduction from their gross income, reducing their AGI.
