We join in honoring the recent passing of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche. Tulku Damchö Rinpoche and many Thrangu Lamas joined in the prayers and cremation at KTD in Woodstock, New York.
NEW UNIFORMS FOR SMD Along with many other needs, last year’s fall campaign provided funds for new school uniforms. After many delays in finding the right fabrics and tailoring problems, the students have been measured, the uniforms made, and ID numbers sewn in the neck. You made this happen ~ thank you HCF donors!
THRANGU TASHI CHOLING ~ BOUDHA Thrangu Rinpoche officiated the consecration of the Boudha monastery in September following completion of the retrofit and reconstruction. Thank you to our HCF donors who helped provide substantial assistance to this project!
LET’S MEET THE 30 YEAR, $1,000.00 A YEAR CHALLENGE AND TURN $30,000.00 INTO $60,000.00 FOR SMD! Every donation made to HCF for this purpose will be matched dollar for dollar ~ up to $30,000.00 by the Benito and Frances C. Gaguine Foundation To participate in the match donations must be designated: SMD Matching Funds. Checks can be made payable to Himalayan Children’s Fund and mailed to our address below. Credit card and Paypal contributions are accepted at www.rinpoche.com/hcfindex.htm. Yarne came to a close on August 15th this year. During the 45 day summer retreat the Senior nuns studied and practiced the two armed Chenrezig sadhana while the Junior nuns worked with the sadhana of Medicine Buddha. Shedra and school nuns all continued with their usual daily schedule. Evenings were filled with debate sessions and a teaching on Gampopa’s Jewel Ornament of Liberation given by Khenpo Chonyi Rangdrol. Additionally, there were sessions held by 5 of the Shedra teachers: Acharya Wangchuk Lhamo taught on Buddha Nature, Yonten Sangmo on Generosity, Sangmo Chodron on Compassion, Tsering Yangchen on the 10 Virtues and Lobsang Dekyi on the 7 Branch Prayer.
MORE YARNE SCENES FROM THRANGU MONASTERIES As with the story above, Yarne, the summer retreat, is a time for study and meditation in the monastic community. The first row of photos show Namo Buddha and VVI activity. The second row of photos show Thrangu Monastery, Tibet. Lhaksam Nepal, the organization of former nuns and monks, occasionally prepared special meals to offer to the monks and nuns.
