Welcome to the February issue
Half term is early this year with schools breaking up on 9th February. Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Boston Park Farm have activities on throughout the half term week.
Did you manage to leave behind the excesses of Christmas and find motivation in January for new plans and ideas? I managed to book a week away and have started Pilates so I had a few moments of inspiration.
Just wanted to say a big thank you to all of the Arrow delivery staff who month after month, deliver your arrow on time, no matter what the weather.
of The Sprotbrough Arrow.
I hope you were lucky enough to avoid the dreaded bugs which the majority of us have had to endure. If not, I hope you and your family are on the road to recovery. It seems that everyone you speak to has someone close who has suffered. I’ll be first in line for the flu jab next year! If you are embarking on some DIY, Torne Valley are offering a 10% discount in this months Arrow—please take your voucher with you so you can claim your discount.
The deadline for the March issue will be Wednesday 7th February which is a bit earlier than normal due to the half term holiday. The March Arrow will be delivered by the last weekend in February Best Wishes Michelle Sidebottom Tel: 01302 534256 / 07795 387937 email: michelle@arrowpublications.co.uk

Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough expects 31st of January to be year’s busiest day for debt and energy advice The last day of January is expected to be the busiest day of the year for people seeking help with their debts and energy bills, according to Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough. Analysis of national data from the past 12 months reveals that on 31 January 2017 Citizens Advice helped 2,800 people, 30 per cent above the daily average. This means one person sought help from Citizens Advice every 10 seconds across the country. 30 January was the most popular day for seeking advice online, with twice as many page views as average for the rest of the year. Locally, Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough is expecting around a hundred people to seek advice on debt and energy matters throughout the first month of the year. Citizens Advice provides assistance to people seeking help for a wide variety of debt and energy concerns, including council tax arrears, credit card debt, rent arrears, unsecured or payday loans and higher than usual energy bills over the winter. To help people kick off 2018 on a stronger financial footing, Citizens Advice is sharing its top tips to help people get their finances in order for the New Year. Karen Bothamley, Chief Officer of Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough, said: “There is always a surge in demand for our debt and energy company switching advice towards the second half of January. “Christmas in particular can take a heavy toll on people already struggling to make their money last and leave them with a debt burden in the new year. But this needn’t become a crisis - problems can be taken care of if you seek advice early. “The New Year is a good time to get on top of your debts, cut your costs or budget better. Citizens Advice can help you review your situation so you can make decisions that improve your financial security.”
Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough’s top tips to sort out your debts: Work out how much you owe - Make a list of who you owe money to and add up how much you need to pay each month. If you don’t have your most recent statements, contact your creditor to find out what you owe. Prioritise your debts - Your rent or mortgage, and council tax are called priority debts as there can be serious consequences if you don’t pay them. These should always be paid first. Separate these and work out how much you owe. Work out how much you can pay - Create a budget by adding up your essential living costs, such as food and housing, and taking away these from your income. Any money you have spare can be put towards your debts. Citizens Advice budgeting tool can help. Paying urgent debts - You may have several priority debts and can’t pay them all. Contact all your creditors to find out if you can negotiate on how much you pay, or when you pay them. Always pay first priority creditors who are taking action against you. Paying non-urgent debts - If you have any money left after paying priority debts, Citizens Advice can arrange a free debt-management plan and contact your creditors to offer them what you can afford to pay. If you can’t pay your debts - If you’ve got little or no money spare to pay your priority debts seek advice from us straight away. Consider switching energy suppliers to save money – Citizens Advice can help you with this and can often save you a substantial sum of money For information and advice, contact Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough on 0344 499 4137 Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough is a registered charity number 1174228 providing free, confidential, independent and impartial advice. School News from Copley Junior School
Year 3 Gods and Goddesses Children in Year 3 launched their new project on ‘Gods and Mortals’ by dressing up as Ancient Greeks. Well done to all the children for your creative costumes.
Year 4 Training for the Roman Army To launch their new creative learning project on ‘I am Warrior’, museum staff from Murton Park visited school. Children enjoyed an exciting day full of activities including a themed presentation and interactive talk, illustrated with a wide range of authentic artefacts. This was followed with craft and artefact handling activities and an active session practising preparations for a Roman battle. By the end of the day, all children successfully passed their Diploma and are all now fierce members of the Roman Army!

Homework Superstars We are delighted with the creative home learning projects completed by the children. For each project, children are given a choice of activities so that they can present research in their own way and can develop independent learning skills. Below are just a few examples from our recent projects on ‘Predators’, ‘Road Trip USA’, ‘Stargazer’ and ‘A Child’s War’. Mini Life Coaches Our Year 6 Mini Life Coaches plan and lead workshops to support pupils’ emotional health and wellbeing. Workshops this year have included mindfulness colouring; relaxation and yoga; friendship and trust exercises; Zumba and friendship and teamwork sessions. So far this year, over 100 children have attended and feedback from the children has been very positive. Well done and thank you to our Year 6 Mini Life Coaches! We look forward to sharing more school news next month

Richmond Hill Primary School News Welcome Back, Richmond Hill! We’re very happy to see everyone back in such good spirits after the Christmas holiday! We hope this term will prove to be as successful as the last. Christmas, Concerts and Calendar!
We had all manner of festive performances towards the end of last term. Nursery sang Christmas songs, complete with dance moves. Reception put on a Nativity, with jokes, songs and even Makaton. KS1 performed ‘A Midwife Crisis’, which was a hilarious take on the nativity that had us all in stitches, and KS2 performed their annual Christmas concert, with each year group performing a different song. All of our pupils had a lot to learn for their shows this year and we were all so impressed by their performances! Well done everyone! Our Choir also had a fantastic end to the term, with their first performance at Doncaster Dome as part of the Rainbow Connection Choral Christmas Concert, organised by choir leaders Mr & Mrs Mellors. They were then filmed for ITV Calendar News, for which they performed a lovely rendition of ‘Silent Night’. Well done to all of our pupils and staff for the amazing work and collaboration at the end of the term. It was such a phenomenal team effort and they all did themselves proud!

Book Launches With the new term comes new books! Years 4, 5 and 6 have all started the term by starting a new book, which they have revealed in quite fantastical ways! Year 4 were led to the main hall in their pyjamas, where they found an old tree, a makeshift bed, haunting music, and an array of clues that could lead them to their book title. After much deliberation and discussion (focussed largely on the spookiness of the clues), they eventually discovered that they would be reading ‘A Monster Calls’ by Patrick Ness! Year 5 pupils saw their classroom transformed into a map! The pupils were separated into different marked off areas, and given instructions to move around. They were asked about how they felt when taking others’ land and how others felt when they were taken over. After some discussion, it was revealed that they had re-enacted the events which led to WWII! They will be reading all about WWII in ‘The Silver Sword’ by Ian Serraillier! Year 6 went back in time for their book launch, with the main hall being transformed into a street party! Pupils drank out of china, ate buns and dressed in 1930’s clothing. Pupils learned about WWII, evacuees and wartime activities, which led to the reveal of their book title… ‘Goodnight Mr. Tom’ by Michelle Magorian! Thank you once again to our staff for putting so much work into their book launches, and to the pupils for getting so involved!

These two beautiful girls are sisters Sasja & Theia who are 6 years old, and have been handed into the Rescue by their owners, who could sadly no longer keep them. They are lovely, affectionate cats- rather quiet and shy at first, and we would like to rehome them as a pair if possible. They are not good with other cats, and haven’t been around dogs, so would be best as only pets in a quieter home. They have been indoor cats, so would be suitable for a home with no outside space. These gorgeous girls are spayed, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. If you would like to come and meet them, please give Isle Rescue a call on 01427 728705
