Editors letter... How lovely it was to learn of young Thomas Offord’s experience in Africa. In a world where our young people are seen to take so much for granted, it’s great to be able to spread the news of stories like this one featured on page 3. If you are aware of any similar stories, please let us know, we would really like to promote the good work our young people do at home or away. The deadline for the November issue is Friday 15th October. Best Wishes

Highspeed Group Aids Charity Climb

Nineteen year old Sprotbrough man, Thomas Offord, wanted to raise money for the charity Childreach International and had the opportunity of seeing some of their work in Africa whilst being able to climb Kilimanjaro. Thomas put out an appeal and Highspeed Group Ltd was one that responded with a donation and sponsorship, supplying ‗T‘ shirts and a much needed heavy duty fleece jacket. Thomas, pictured here in a Highspeed ‗T‘ shirt said; ―I‘ve have just come back from the trip of a lifetime. I had some amazing experiences which included visiting children at a school which the charity Childreach International, had helped to build. We spent the whole day talking to the children and looking around the local community. The thing that made this such an uplifting day was that everyone I met was so happy even with so little. The trip was one if not the best week of my life. Thank you very much Highspeed.‖ Congratulations to Thomas on his achievement and for raising over £2300 for such a worthwhile cause! Skincare Make up Nails Skincare Make up Nails Dear Reader, Well, Summer is definitely over and the nights are drawing in. In comes Autumn with its customary comforts: putting your pyjamas on early and succumbing to a hot chocolate by a cosy fire watching a chick flick film. This is very timely because, whereas over the past year I have discussed many general beauty treatments: nails, make-up, facials etc., this month‘s topic is relaxation - specifically the benefits of many of the relaxing body treatments that are available in the industry.

Doncaster Advanced Motorists Beyond the Test (Observation) Dear readers,

To pass the L-test you only have to read a car number plate at 20.5 meters (67 feet) To be a good driver you‘ll need much better vision than that. Most people‘s eyesight deteriorates very gradually, so they don‘t notice the effects, but research shows that millions of British drivers have poor eye-sight, and that can make them a danger to themselves, and you every time they drive. Poor eyesight can affect reaction times and spatial awareness, while restricted vision may cause a driver not to see a hazard at all. Have an eye test every two years (or whenever you suspect there‘s been a deterioration in your vision) and always wear spectacles or contact lenses if an optician has recommended you wear them for driving. To be an effective good driver you must try to absorb as much information as possible every time you drive. There are dozens of things going on at any given moment and you have to instantly process that information, focusing on those that are relevant and disregarding those that are not. Of course, all drivers do this to a degree, but a good driver takes it to another level, constantly assessing driving conditions, reading the road a long distance ahead, and making decisions accordingly. Forward Observation. Almost all ordinary drivers only observe the road 5-20 meters in front of them, so, as well as missing most upcoming dangers altogether, at 60mph they have under a second to react if a hazard appears. Good drivers don‘t have this problem; they constantly scan the area closest to them, as well as the middle distance and all the way to the horizon. One useful technique is to immediately scan the next section of road, as far as you can see ahead, every time you round a bend or reach the crest of a hill. This early-warning system has massive benefits: you can often see what direction the road is going to take, identify up-coming hazards, see traffic jams early or spot potentially dangerous drivers or vehicles. Your eyes are capable of long distance vision at the same time as short distance. If you look far ahead, you can still be aware of what is happening close to you. But if you look at something very close to you, like the rear of the car, you will struggle to see ahead. Tailgating is the nemesis of forward observation. It severely limits your vision, often to a dangerous level, and means that the lorry or van driver in front of you may not even know you are there. The good drivers position their vehicle further back and slightly to the side, so that they can always see the line of traffic ahead of them, lifting their vision, but still being aware of the foreground to get early warning if the queue of traffic starts to brake. Lifting your vision is one of the key advantages a good driver has over the ordinary driver. Rear Observation. Good drivers obtain much more information from their rear-view mirrors than the average driver. They don‘t just observe what‘s immediately behind; they use their mirrors to calculate speed and distance over a longer range without, of course, neglecting what‘s going on in front of them. With practice important information can be absorbed in a moment. Always be aware of your blind spots if in any doubt, have a ‗lifesaver‘ glance over your shoulder. If you are interested in further information regarding the courses that we offer, you‘ll be able to find this information on the Institute of Advanced Motorists website at www.iam.org.uk or Tel: 020 8996 9600 Safe Driving. The Family Table I have found out a little of the history of my table. I was watching the Antique Road Show where the experts are travelling all over the country to decide a winner for the most money achieved on their sales. Then I saw it …… MY TABLE, or should I say two of my table in the same little town. You can imagine how I felt. My table! The expert struck a good bargain and bought one for only £60 and sold it for £100 at the auction. I learned that it was mahogany, made in about 1920 and was a popular style in the south where we lived, when I was a child in Weymouth. I would imagine my Dad had bought it at an auction there, he loved auctions. At one time we had three pictures on every wall in every room. He bought biscuit barrels, posters, silver items including a very large meat cover, they must have had huge joints of meat in Victorian times when my Father was born. We kept this silver cover until we left Weymouth for the second time in the 70‘s, somehow it was a wrench to part with it. So my table is not as old as I thought, but still it‘s about 90yrs., lots of stories hidden there, and my heart was really lifted when I saw one on the TV. I wonder how many tables Our Lord Jesus sat at in His time on this earth. A brief life but a full one. There‘s a tradition of sharing not just food and drink at a table, but telling of happenings, and we feel safe gathered around a table. Talk flows, advice given and received. Jesus would have shared many of His parables like this, or explained them more fully. No wonder we can open our hearts at the Communion Table where we share all our joys, sorrows and prayers, as we feel at one with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We can bare our souls. Nothing we share is too much or too little. Our wonderful Trinity understands EVERYTHING. We are cleansed completely when we truly repent of our wrong doings, ‗Cleansed‘ is a lovely word. So if you are unable to get to a Communion Table, make your own table a place of peace where you can come to Him. Amen God Bless you all. See you next month Jean Scott
