Welcome to the October issue of the Sprotbrough

Arrow

And just like that, it s Autumn! Well, summer has been a blast, I hope everyone had a great one. We have lots of things to look forward to as the nights draw in, with the half term break at the end of the month and Hallow een. Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Boston Park Farm have activities lined up to keep everyone in the spooky spirit of things.

Our local community groups are all busy with activities you are all welcome to attend over the next few months and don t forget to save the date for the big Christmas Light switch on in November.

I hope everyone has the opportunity to run, walk or cycle around our villages and enjoy nature changing the colour scheme once again. Take care everyone.

The November issue deadline for adverts and content is Wednesday 18th October. The Arrow will be delivered by 1st November.

Best Wishes

RICHMOND HILL PRIMARY ACADEMY

Cirque Du Freak comes to Richmond Hill

Our Y5 started the term with a wonderful circus themed event to launch the study of the novel ‘Cirque du Freak' by Darren Shan. The children dressed as characters and performed acts they had practiced over the summer break.

Mysterious and Legendary Malamander

Year 4 also started the new term discovering their new novel ' Malamander' by Thomas Taylor with the help of some clever clues! The main characters are Herbert Lemon & Violet Parma so can you guess what sweets they tried in the lesson?

First Past the Post at the Leger!

We are delighted to announce the outstanding young artist who has won the Doncaster Racecourse’s Leger Legends Racecard Competition is from Richmond Hill. Alex (Aged 8), has brilliantly captured the spirit of this year's St Leger Festival theme, 'Made in Doncaster.' Her winning design featured iconic Doncaster landmarks like Conisbrough Castle, Doncaster Train Station and of course Doncaster Racecourse. Alex and her family have been invited to the St Leger Community Funday and to honour Alex’s creative contribution, a unique mural of the winning design will also grace the Grandstand Enclosure, where it will be admired by visitors for years to come. Alex spoke about her joy at winning: “It was really amazing to win this competition. It took me two or three days to think about the design and then draw everything and I was so happy when I found out I won! I can’t wait to go to the racecourse, I am excited to see the printed racecard when we get there and all the horses as well.”

Egyptian Experience

At the very end of the summer term Y4 had a fabulous trip to Weston Park museum exploring the mummies as part of their History study of the Ancient Egyptians. It was a fascinating experience bringing history to life.

A Scarecrow’s If

If you bought a programme and didn’t mind the cost

If you popped in for a snack and thought the price was right

If you wandered the streets, with map in hand, enjoying the autumn sun

If you donated prizes and thought the giving, good

If you sold some plants and hoped they’d grace the buyer’s garden

If you worked your socks off for several days and thought the task well served

If you entered the raffle but didn’t expect to win

If you bought a winning ticket and was thrilled to get a prize

If you built a scarecrow and considered the time well spent

Then Sprotbrough Folk, you’ve helped a brand-new mum
