Sprotbrough Cricket Club
Welcome to the latest edition of Sprotbrough Cricket Club’s Arrow column, bringing you all the news and goings-on of a club at the heart of the community.
It’s so exciting to think we’re just a month away from the start of a new season! It’s definitely starting to feel real now, and we can’t wait to get back out there – in case you can’t tell already!
Winter nets are now in full swing for both our junior and senior teams! Whilst we’ve had a great turnout so far, that doesn’t mean it’s too late to join us in time for the new season. If this is something you or your children aged under 15 are interested in, our junior sessions are taking place between 6pm and 9pm every Monday until 27th March at St Pius X Catholic School in Wath-upon-Deane – postcode S63 7PQ. These sessions cost £5 per week. Our senior nets, which is open to people of all ages wanting to play senior-level cricket, are taking place every Tuesday between 8pm and 9.30pm at Sheffield Hallam University – postcode S9 1UA – until 28th March, but there may be more sessions after that to be confirmed. These sessions also cost £5 per week.
Regardless of whether you are completely new to cricket or an experienced veteran, we are keen to welcome anyone of any age or standard interested in playing cricket this year. We’ve said it once, but it isn’t too late to join us at our net sessions to help refine your skills before the 2023 season starts. Payment for both junior and senior nets can be made by card, cash or bank transfer.
We have also recently confirmed our important dates for the upcoming season, so make sure you save them! Thank you to everyone who joined us or renewed their time at Sprotbrough Cricket Club at our annual signing-on day on the 26th February; we’re hope you’re just as excited for the season as we are! Other important dates for the summer are as follows:
Our annual six-a-side tournament will take place on the 28th May, in memory of our dear friend Alastair Graves. It’s a day which never fails to provide great fun for all the family and is open to entry for everyone – regardless of whether you play regularly or not!
It’s also been confirmed that our annual summer barbecue will take place on the 8th July. This is another event which we feel always brings our community together, and is certainly not to be missed at the height of t-shirt weather and long days!
More information about these events will be announced in due course. If you would like the most up-todate news on winter nets, important dates for 2023 and what’s happening around the club, make sure to follow our Facebook (Sprotbrough Cricket Club) and Twitter (@CcSprotbrough) pages – which can also be contacted if necessary.
Thank you as always for reading! Look out for the next edition of this column in April 2023!
