The members of High Levels WI met on Wednesday 19th April, paid their annual subscriptions and were welcomed to the meeting. Following the usual rendering of Jerusalem and a small amount of business the entertainment began. Six members of a South Yorkshire Belly Dance Troupe performed some dances and then invited members to join in. They explained the routines, their involvement and the health benefits. It was certainly an enjoyable and informative evening.

Epworth and District Flower Club

In April the members met for a workshop evening. Almost all of the membership was in attendance to watch the demonstrator, Sarah, create an Easter display. After only a few minutes Sarah had used tulips, narcissi, various greenery, roses and carnations of varying shades of lemon and yellow and a wreath was made to be used as a table arrangement! It was completed with a few imitation eggs on sticks and a small container of chocolate eggs.

Next it was the turn of the members. Absolutely everything was provided and the ladies worked hard with a constant pleasurable buzz. Eventually 32 arrangements were made, all slightly reflecting the ability and personality of each member. Some had tall roses and tulips, some had cut their flowers shorter but every one was beautiful. Some were left to decorate St Andrew’s Church for Easter.

The evening concluded as usual with refreshments. The May meeting was planned to welcome Lucy Griffin from Retford and the June meeting, to be held on 12th June in St Andrew’s Church will host Sue Hodgson who will demonstrate “Super Sleuths”. Come and join us, we are growing fast, and discover what the sleuths are!

Linda Clarke of Spotted Dog Flowers will demonstrate in July at the usual time of 7.30pm and the usual night, the second Monday of the month.

Nursing team step forward for ‘It’s a Knockout’ Challenge

A group of clinical staff have stepped forward to represent their charity run Hospice in its first ever ‘It’s a Knockout’ event on Friday 23 June.

The team of 10 from Lindsey Lodge Hospice & Healthcare – known as ‘Lindsey’s Angels’ - will go head to head with more than 20 other teams from local businesses across North Lincolnshire for an event filled with inflatables, water, foam and fun to raise valuable funds for the Burringham Road-based Hospice, which celebrated 30 years of care in 2022.

Lindsey Lodge Operational Matron Karen Andrew said: “I’m so proud of our team for stepping up to take part!

“They work hard every day to care for our patients and their families, so know first-hand how important it is for us to raise the much-needed funds to be able to continue to provide our specialist palliative care to our local community. “I hope local people will support us by sponsoring us, and helping us to get to our £1,000 target!”

Teams will go head to head and take on the challenge on Lindsey Lodge’s events field from 5pm. They will face a wide range of fun-filled obstacles and challenges, with scores being tracked on a central leader board, competing for the crown of ’It’s a Knockout Champions’ 2023.

Lindsey Lodge Fundraising Co-ordinator Kathryn Stuart said: “We’re asking each team of ten to raise £1,000 in sponsorship for taking part. So far, they’ve set up JustGiving pages to share on their social media channels, as well as getting creative by arranging bake sales and dress down days to get to their target.”

She added: “We’re also encouraging the local community to come along and support the event. We’ll be asking for a minimum of £1 as a donation for entry, and guests will have access to food, live music and a licensed bar, as well as a whole host of inflatables and activities for the kids to enjoy.”

Karen Andrew added: “It will be so lovely to see our team having so much fun! We’ll also be bringing our very own cheerleaders – Bosley’s Babes – made up from other members of our clinical team to provide even more encouragement for our fundraising teams at the event!

To sponsor the Lindsey Lodge team, please visit their JustGiving page at: For more information about the ‘It’s a Knockout’ event, please contact Lindsey Lodge on email llh.corporate@nhs.net.

From the classroom to careers event Save the Date!

We are very excited to be holding our first careers and aspiration event at both Belton All Saints Primary & Wroot Travis Charity Primary on the afternoon of 21st June 2023.

We are also looking for people with different types of careers to attend. Maybe you work in farming, retail, building, theatre, literature, music, TV, or within creative arts. Perhaps parents/carers/friends/family have careers in plumbing, education, law, engineering or travel. Basically any role that the children can find out more about.

The aim is to inspire our children to know what our local community and further afield has to offer in the world of work and give to pupils something to aspire to. It's completely free and if required you would have an allocated table to promote your business.

Please contact the schools on:

We look forward to hearing from you with regards to this exciting event.

1st Isle of Axholme BP Scouts May 2023

In April we took our first scout camp of the year –we combined our usual indoor camp with the DofE Bronze practice expedition which made for a brilliantly busy weekend. On Saturday, the 2 teams of DofE participants walked unaccompanied across open country, navigating according to a planned routecard, to Brimham Rocks to meet up for lunch. Despite a soggy morning they made excellent time, showing great teamwork and map skills. After lunch, and the traditional hide and seek games among the rocks at Brimham, we dispersed to walk back to the hall. While the DofE-ers walked a longer route (including practicing how to leave safety tags for leaders), the “chef team” took a more direct route home. They then cooked a delicious meal of tortilla wraps with either spicy chicken or bolognaise fillings, followed by apple crumble and custard. Later, there was time for lots of silly games before supper and bed. On Sunday, after a team clean-up of the hall, we headed to a local outdoor activity centre for air rifle shooting and archery. Some impressive skills shown! After a quick picnic lunch we headed to Harrogate pool for their 2hr inflatables session –scouts race each other down either side of a floating obstacle course, trying to avoid sliding in. The car journey home was very quiet with many sleepy scouts! Coronation celebrations have been enjoyed by the cubs who made crafts such as crowns ahead of the May 6th ceremony. We also visited Westwoodside Primary school and gave a talk in assembly to share some of our typical activities ahead of our Beavers section reopening.

Leaders have also been busy, keeping up to date with their dbs paperwork and other required qualifications to make sure the young people in their care are kept safe. Some have been updating their 16hr outdoor first aid (to re-validate their BELA walking qualifications), others spent a wilderness weekend in Northumberland completing 50km and wild camping, completing their Hill and Moorland assessment. Well done all, and thank you for giving up your time to run scouts.

Sections all meet at the Westwoodside Village Hall: (Cubs, Scouts and Senior Scouts) all meet on Monday evenings 6pm (Cubs), and 7pm (Scouts), and Beavers (tbc) probably on a Tuesday evening at 6pm.

Remember, we are still looking to recruit Beavers leaders so we can restart this section. Please get in touch if this is something you could help with.
