Joint Concert by Isle & American Choirs The Isle Choral Singers have had an invitation to join with the Albany First Methodist Church choir from Oregon, USA, for a concert to be held at 3.00 pm on Sunday, 24th June, in St Andrew’s Parish Church, Epworth. Admission cost is £7.00 adults, £3.50 students and accompanied children under 14 free of charge. Tickets are available from the church, choir members or pay at the door. For more details telephone Concert Secretary, Helen Warnes on 01427 871485. Our American friends love to come to Epworth as part of the Wesley trail experience and a visit to St Andrew’s church, where Reverend Samuel Wesley was Rector of Epworth and the Wesley family worshipped, is at the heart of their visit. So we hope to enhance that experience by a capacity audience. The Isle Choral Singers will be involved in Epworth Music Day on the previous day, 23rd June, so it will be a busy weekend. Our Summer concert will be in St Andrew’s Parish Church on 15th July, when we always plan for music to suit a Summer Evening. More details and tickets will be available nearer the time. For anyone interested in finding out more about the Isle Choral Singers please check us out on facebook, website or telephone enquiries to Concert Secretary, Helen Warnes, on 01427 871485. Rehearsals are held every Monday from 7.00 pm in the Imperial Hall, Epworth.
During June and July we meet only on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. Feel free to contact any Camera Club member you may know or give Joyce Hooley a call on 01427 752323 or just turn up on the night. We meet in St Nicholas' Church Hall, Haxey starting at 7.30 pm to approximately 9.30 pm. We are a very friendly club and welcome any newcomers. The annual subscription is £10.00 plus £2.00 for each meeting attended (reduced for under 18s) which includes tea/coffee and biscuits. www.axholmecameraclub.co.uk

ROYAL AIR FORCE LINDHOLME Adapted and Edited for publication by Anthony Catherall cknowledgement to Margaret Draper No 305 Squadron left for Hemswell in July 1942 because it had been decided to extend and to concrete the station runways so that they could take four engined aircraft. Because this entailed the purchase of more land, two farms, Eastred Hill and Grange, were taken over for the extensions. There was no worry about Irish labourers on this occasion although the station diary refers cryptically to ‘labour troubles’ delaying progress in August 1942. As there was no flying to be done the station personnel had a golden opportunity to carry out repairs and “face lifts” to the camp. When flying began again in November 1942 the operational task had changed; the thousand bomber raids had been portents for the future. A Cabinet decision had committed Bomber Command to consistent all-out attacks on Germany, and the training of crews for these raids was a vital task. Lindholme was to be one of the stations engaged in this. In November 1942 No 1481 Bombing and Gunnery Unit arrived on the station from RAF Blyton and No 199 Squadron flying Wellingtons took its place at RAF Blyton, which now came under the control of Lindholme. No 1656 Heavy Conversion Unit was also installed at Lindholme at this time and was equipped with Halifaxes and Manchester’s. Left a Wellington Mark 1 being bombed up. It is interesting to note that operational sorties were still flown from the station by the training crews and naturally No 199 Squadron at Blyton had the normal operational role to fulfil. However, this squadron left Blyton in February 1943 and was replaced by No 1662 HCU. Other changes continued to take place. The Bombing and Gunnery Unit moved to RAF Binbrook in May 1943, and in July No 11 Base Lindholme was formed. Under the base system stations were grouped together and placed under the operational control of one base unit, and although Lindholme remained under the command of a Group Captain, the base commander was Air Commodore G G Banting. Wartime personalities are often referred to in the station diary. In May 1943 the Station Commander attended a ‘Wings for Victory’ lunch at Sheffield at which Mrs Churchill was present. In July 1943 over 100 men from Lindholme attended General Sikorski’s funeral at Newark.

was again a thumping success. For the second year running the event was over subscribed, raising over £900 in support of Lindsey Lodge Hospice. Local businesses were again very generous, donated some great prizes for the raffle, thank you to all. The pie and pea supper went down a treat, and all enjoyed a very fun evening.
A BIG thank you to everyone who came and supported the tea party in aid of Dementia UK, along with the people who baked cakes etc and helped in many way's. It was a GREAT SUCCESS and with some great donations we were able to raise the wonderful sum of £1207. WELL DONE TO ALL.

Twelfth Night
Community News
This year Crowle Entertainers are presenting Shakespeare's Twelfth Night – one of his most popular comedies. The performances will take place on Saturday 23rd June at 7.30pm and Sunday 24th June at 2.30pm at the Crowle Community Hall. Tickets are priced £5 (£4 concessions) and are available from Crowle Regen Shop and Fancyland, Queen Street, Epworth or by calling 01724 711212 or 07419 319796 or on the door. For lovers of Shakespeare and also for all those who think Shakespeare is not for them – come along and give this a try! We are a community drama group and some of us are probably more frightened of Shakespeare than you are!! The production is set in what was possibly the craziest of all decades - the swinging 1960s - when the times were very definitely a-changing. Lively and energetic with references to the huge impact of the Beatles, the birth of youth culture and "flower power", the production features lots of music and dance from that era.

Identical twins Viola and Sebastian set out on a cruise but are shipwrecked and cast up on shore on the sun-soaked coast of Illyria. Each believing the other to be drowned, they set out on their own adventures and seem to find adoring fans wherever they go. Viola, whilst disguised as a man, falls in love with the Count Orsino (in our production he's a rich businessman in the music industry), whilst Sebastian is pursued by Antonia – Orsino's rival in business. Orsino meanwhile is in love with the beautiful Olivia – who is already being courted by Andrew Aguecheek and has another secret admirer in Malvolio. She, however, falls in love with the disguised Viola – believing her to be a man. Will time untangle this complicated love knot? Come along to see our production and find out! This very cute boy is Wolfie, a 5 year old Jack Russell. Wolfie is a really friendly, happy boy who just loves a fuss and going for walks. He would be best as an only pet in a home where there are no young children, as he is not used to kids. He would be an ideal companion for an active older person with terrier experience, and where someone is at home for a lot of the time to keep him company. Wolfie is neutered, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. Please call Isle Rescue on 01427 728705 for more details

Epworth Music Day 2018 With less than a month to go before this year’s Epworth Music Day on Saturday 23 June, we’re putting the final pieces together for another great day of celebrating live music. In the daytime there’ll be over 80 hours of free music from 10am to 5pm in 13 venues around Epworth, featuring 53 different groups and performers of all types of music. All this is free. As well as the daytime programme, there will be 3 separate concerts in Epworth on Saturday evening to round off a stupendous day’s music and entertainment. Starting at 7pm there will be 6 different groups – again of all types of music – performing in St Andrew’s Church. At 8.30pm there’ll be a concert with 2 rock bands in the Queen’s Head and at 9pm there’ll be a folk concert in Jinksy’s Bar in the Red Lion. In the Imperial Hall there will be an evening ceilidh. All 3 concerts and the ceilidh are free and no tickets are needed. Full details of the performers and the daytime and evening programmes will be available at www.epworthmusicday.com and will be available on the day. We would still welcome a few more stewards to help on the day – for however much time you can give. If you think you could help, please contact John Lambert on jrlambert@doctors.org.uk

Since it first came in to being over 20 years ago, Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue has rehomed around 4,000 greyhounds and is the largest greyhound rescue and rehoming centres in the north of England. At any one me the rescue cares for around 100 greyhounds in our purposed built kennels and helps find forever homes for around 250 dogs a year. It is also a sanctuary for many unwanted horses including many heavy horses such as Shires and Clydesdales. The primary aim of the charity is to re‐home the dogs in it’s care, but it offers so much more than that for anyone who wishes to visit! Open daily come rain or shine, visitors have the opportunity to get involved with the care of the greyhounds by walking them in the orchard (10am – 3pm). It also has a dog‐friendly café and a shop selling an extensive range of dog accessories, food and gi s. The 70 acre farm is also home to a menagerie of other animals including shaggy Poitou donkeys, miniature donkeys, horses, goats, chicken and sheep, and a children’s play area.
