Community News St Mary's Church Garthorpe are holding their annual Coffee Morning on Saturday October 6th from 11-30am and from noon ploughmans lunch will be available till 2pm.

We meet weekly in St Nicholas Church Hall, Haxey starting at 7.30 pm to approximately 9.30 pm. We are a very friendly club and welcome any newcomers. The annual subscription is £10.00 plus £2.00 for each meeting attended (reduced for under 18s) which includes tea/coffee and biscuits.

Isle of Axholme Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust News Thursday October 4th 7.30pm at Stephen Jones Hall (rear of the Methodist Chapel), Low Street, Haxey Caistor hedgehog rescue have agreed to come along and tell us about their work. As you probably have heard on the news, the number of hedgehogs in the wild has been declining drastically over recent years so it will be interesting to find out what is

being done to help them. We hope you will come along, everyone is welcome, you don't have to be a member of the Trust. We have a small charge of £1 to cover the room costs and we have a raffle and refreshments. Our meetings are always on the first Thursday of the month from October to May in the Stephen Jones Hall in Haxey. Two popular and hard working members of Crowle Methodist Church who both passed away recently will be honoured at a special concert featuring the Isle Community Choir at the Fieldside Chapel this month. This special show in remembrance of Mabel Clift and Val Janssen takes place at 7pm Saturday 6th October.

Luddington and Haldenby Parish Council Newsletter, October 18.

The next meeting dates of the parish council are: 1 October and 5 November at 7.30pm in the village hall. Two vacancies for parish councillors currently exist please come along and see how we operate as the first tier of local government.

Playground Committee. The committee meet every third Monday at the River Don Eastoft at 6.

30pm.Volunteers will continue with grass cutting at the playing fields. The parish council assisted by Ward Councillors Julie Reed and John Briggs are working towards purchasing the playing field, for the community, with funding provided by North Lincolnshire Council. Julie Reed is also working for Andrew Percy to deliver the funding for the project. Other funding pots will be approached to assist with purchasing new playground equipment.

Quotes have been obtained to purchase brand new equipment for both younger and older children. An updated MUGA will be for a later project. A community event is arranged for Sunday 28 October 1-3pm when the parish councillors and the playground committee will have plans of the new equipment available to view and questions from residents will be welcome. Everyone welcome.

Public participation/Planning process. There is a 10-minute session at the start of all meetings which provides time for residents to discuss any concerns or to just attend to observe proceedings.

Residents are invited to attend the Parish Council meeting to provide additional details of their planning applications.

2018/2019 Precept. The precept for the coming year is £6978 which includes a discretionary grant of £478.Most of this amount is spent on cutting the large areas of grass throughout the whole village, the Clerks wages, some light tree work and litter picking to keep your village clean and tidy.

This year there will be additional expenses to be paid for, if the adoption of the playing field is given a green light.

The framed certificate from North Lincolnshire Council in Bloom is on display in the village hall.

Village Hall events. Every Tuesday of the month there is a fund-raising bingo, 30 October.

Planned events for later in the year are the Harvest Tea on 7 October, a Christmas Fayre in November and the Seniors lunch on the 9 December 2018. Contact Joanne on 07484 842275 for further details or see the village hall noticeboard.

COMMUNITY NEWS October Newsletter St Marks Community Group Amcotts Monday 8th October 2018 – AGM for St Marks Community Group to be held at St Marks Church at 7 -15. All welcome.

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who helped with Best Kept Village 2018. We have been awarded three prizes: Best new entrant 2018 Best Community Planting 2018 Best Kept Village 2018 ( under 1000 residents) Remembering World War 1 (1918 -2018) and 100 years of the RAF. We have a display entitled “Connections to the First World War” in St Marks Church Amcotts until November 11th. Many of our children have prepared a Family Board for the display.

If any one has any old photographs of Amcotts we would be delighted to put them in the display.

We are now 2 years old and have over 60 members.

Various interest groups e.g. Local History, Scrabble, Book Club, Bridge, Current Affairs, Afternoon Tea, Photography, Fun French, Family History, Gardening, Craft, Writing, Ukele, Theatre/ Cinema Group and AZ Trips meet at other times during the month.

Romeo and Juliet visit Epworth Old Rectory On a glorious evening on 31st of August, Shakespeare again appeared at Epworth Old Rectory with the Handlebards' performance of Romeo and Juliet. Part of the Old Rectory's role is to be of service to the community and this performance certainly did that. The audience came from all sections of our community, from 5 year old India up to audience members in their 8th decade. They enjoyed their picnic in the grounds for an hour of more prior to the performance, ably entertained by a talented local amateur musician with a mix of folk and easily listening music, who sang again during the half way interval. His music was enjoyed by all, if the singing along, swaying and clapping had anything to do with it.

Handlebards consisted of a group of four lovely, talented young actresses who kept the audience involved and enthralled with their performance, with each one taking on multiple roles within the play, including a song and dance number at the very end, which, although surprising on the night, was often an integral, part of the entertainment in Elizabethan England when these fabulous plays were first written and performed.

The Rectory gardens rang with laughter during the comedy elements and quiet contemplation during the tragic parts, but no matter what was happening and where in the play I looked at the audience I saw genuine enjoyment all around, even when a member of the audience was roped in to play a dead Juliet, as the actress herself pointed out, "I can't do it, I have to be someone else!" A thoroughly enjoyable evening all round. Our thanks to Handlebards for their spirited performance, but also to all the staff and volunteers, and you know who you are, who made it such a marvellous evening.
