Welcome to the November issue of the Arrow! 10 weeks til Christmas, oh no I

hear you all say! Yes, we are now on count down but before the festive season my favourite time of year; Halloween and Bonfire night.

Remember to keep safe and if you can, attend an organised firework display do so. A well

organised bonfire and fireworks is held every year at the Epworth showground..

This year the date is Saturday 4th November. Gates open at 4:30pm, bonfire is

lit at 5pm and fireworks at 6.45pm. Adults are £5 and children are £2. Under 5’s are free.

There will be food stalls available – Hog Roast, Burgers, Coffee, Crepes and Bar There will be a small amount of Children’s Fairground Rides.

All proceeds from the event are distributed between local charities.

The event is organised by Epworth Show Bonfire committee (which is made up of members from Epworth Show Committee, Friends of Epworth School (FOES) and the Epworth Lights Committee.

Firework Display by Axholme Fireworks.

The deadline for the December issue is Tuesday 14th November for distribution by the 1st December.

Community News Isle Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Thursday November 2nd Alkborough Flats Graham Catley, a well known local knowledgeable bird expert and superb photographer, will be coming to tell us all about this special wetland reserve near Scunthorpe which attracts hundreds of birds. Graham has monitored and recorded the bird populations at Alkborough since it was established. Do come and find out more about this special place which is on our doorstep.

Don’t forget that bird food is always on sale at our indoor meetings and at Chris Trinder's house in Belton, at very competitive prices, just ring if you need anything. We meet weekly in St Nicholas Church Hall, Haxey starting at 7.30 pm to approximately 9.30 pm. We are a very friendly club and welcome any newcomers.

The annual subscription is £10.00 plus £2.00 for each meeting attended (reduced for under 18s) which includes tea/coffee and biscuits.

Luddington and Haldenby Parish Council Newsletter, November 2017.

Meeting dates of the parish council are: - 6 November 2017, 4 December 2017.8 January 2018,5 February 2018, 5 March 2018. All at 7.30pm except 8 January which will be at 6.30pm.

Playground Committee. The committee meet every third Monday at the River Don Eastoft at 6. 30pm. All welcome.

Public participation/Planning process.

There is a 10-minute session at the start of all meetings which provides time for residents to discuss any concerns or to just attend to observe proceedings or provide any additional details to plans submitted. 2017/2018 Precept The precept for the coming year is £4400. Village Hall events. Dates for your diary. A charity Christmas craft fair will take place on the 26th November 2017. The Christmas Bingo is on 28th November, a date for your diary.

On Friday 29th September 2017, every student and staff member at The Axholme Academy took part in a 5 mile sponsored walk. This is an annual event that the school organises to raise money for the Academy School Fund. This fund is aimed at supporting educational trips and events for the students; therefore the money raised goes straight towards their own educational experiences.

The walk takes the students around different parts of Crowle, including along the canal-side and through the village. Most of the school took the walk at a good steady pace and spirits remained high despite the wet weather! Most students completed the walk within 2 hours and returned to be treated to a hot drink and cake at our annual MacMillan Coffee Morning which raised an amazing £488.55.

There were some great fundraising efforts made by some students including Jessica Gibson (Year 7) who raised £120 and Ellie Dean (Year 7) who raised £85.

All of the students thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the walk and have raised a magnificent £1324.20 so far and this will be used to support extra student activities.

Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

Over the weekend of September 30th / October 1st, 16 students took part in their bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition. The students completed over 30km on foot completing a circuit around the Isle of Axholme with an overnight camp in Haxey.

During the practice expedition earlier in the year, there were several SOS calls following indifferent map reading skills! However, lessons had been learnt and all groups arrived at camp on time and in good spirits despite the arrival of wet weather. Tents were put up and food cooked in the oncoming downpour which lasted all night!

Despite the inclement weather, 10 students successfully completed their qualifying expedition and 3 others their practice expedition. All worked well as a group to complete their objectives and they had a good time as a result.
