Welcome to the November issue of the Crowle and Ealand Arrow!

October 31st, Halloween, its my favourite time of the year! Please remember behind a closed door there could be a vulnerable person who is scared to answer the door. If you want to be involved, leave a pumpkin or decoration out so children know they can call. This way everyone can have an enjoyable evening and those who don’t want to be disturbed can be left in peace.

November 5th is bonfire night. Another great evening for all the family. But don’t forget our loveable pets.

Community News Folk Dancing in the Isle of Axholme-Isle Dance for Health Autumn 2019 The folk dances run by local folk dance band Lys St Georges continue this autumn as follows: Crowle Pavilion, Godnow Road: Thursday 31 October Thursday 7 November Thursday 14 November All Saints Centre, Belton: Thursday 21 November Thursday 28 November Thursday 5 December Each dance starts at 2.30pm and lasts for 2 hours.

You don’t need a partner nor any experience in country dancing, and these friendly dances will be suitable for all levels of fitness. There’ll be live music and expert tuition. As one dancer said at the end of an earlier programme ‘What's not to like! Live music, gentle exercise, lots and lots of fun and every assistance.’

There’s a small admission charge of £2 for each dance.

Tuesday 26 November – 'Faces and Places' a talk on portraiture, by Gary Langley. Gary has developed a style of portrait photography through his fascination with fashion and the way people look and dress. He endeavours to evoke emotion through his photographs which also include landscape, seascapes and the natural world.

The evening begins at 7.30p.m. in the Church Hall, Haxey and is open to anyone who would like to attend. £3 to members/£5 non-members.

The Carers’ Support Service Do you look after someone who could not manage without you?

You are a Carer if you provide unpaid necessary care by looking after an ill, fail or disabled family member, friend or a child with additional needs who could not otherwise manage without your support.

The care you provide can be practical, personal, emotional or supervisory. Help may be needed with bathing, toileting, grocery shopping, paying bills, doctors’ appointments or just to be there on the other end of the phone for reassurance.

The word “Carer” is used for people who provide unpaid care as opposed to those who are paid such as care workers, personal assistants and home helps.

The Carers’ Support Service is here to help all adult Carers who care for an adult or child with additional needs living in North Lincolnshire.

Our annual Open Evening took place on

Wednesday 18th September and was a very busy occasion. Pupils were invited from primary schools in the surrounding area to come and have a look at what the Academy has to offer.

The parents received a welcome speech from Mr Keogh the Principal and the Head Boy & Deputy Head Girl gave a speech on life at the Academy from Year 7 to 11.

Following this, parents and their children were invited to take a tour of the academy where they experienced activities in each of the classrooms. The Geography department showcased tastes of food from around the world, flag face painting and they were judging the ‘Great British Geography Bake Off’. The English Department held ghost walks throughout the evening hosted by Mr Thompson and some year 8 students plus many more fantastic activities highlighting what the academy has to offer.

Sponsored Walk & Macmillan Coffee Morning On Friday 27th September 2019, 559 students and staff members at The Axholme Academy took part in a 5 mile sponsored walk. This is an annual event that the school organises to raise money for the Academy School Fund. This fund is aimed at supporting educational trips and events for the students; therefore the money raised goes towards their own educational experiences.

The walk takes the students around different parts of Crowle, including

along the canal-side and through the village.

The majority of students completed the walk within 2 hours and returned to be treated to a hot drink and cake at our annual MacMillan Coffee Morning; the Macmillan Coffee morning raised an amazing £435.70.

We have raised an amazing £1,135.53 for the Sponsored Walk so far.
