Wow what an eventful weekend the 10th May proved to be! Just as I was planning my trip to Wembley, Crewe beat Doncaster Rovers in a shootout to make the play-off final! Shortly after my return from the pub the most amazing site across the skies of Yorkshire. We were dazzled by a fantastic display of the Northern lights. And to top it all off an evening of the Eurovision song contest!

The July issue deadline for adverts and content is Friday 7th June. The Arrow will be delivered by the 1st July.

The Crowle & District WI meeting on 6th June 2024 will be Pauline Venables with her Puppetry Model Shadow Theatre., She will also bring along old puppets and explain how the Shadow Theatre works. It should be an excellent meeting.

The venue is Crowle Community Hall, Woodland Avenue, Crowle DN17 4LL. The meeting starts at 7pm. Come along to any of our meetings we are very friendly and welcoming.

June is a busy month for Isle

Choral Singers, starting with a special concert on June 1 in conjunction with the First United Methodist Church Cathedral Choir from Montgomery, Alabama, USA. The Alabama choir are visiting Epworth as part of their "In The Footsteps of John Wesley Tour," performing a programme of sacred and spiritual music and invited Isle Choral Singers, as the local singing ensemble, to join them for a special joint concert in St Andrews Church, Epworth at 2.30pm on Saturday, June 1st. The First United Methodist Church in Montgomery was founded 195 years ago and has a rich tradition of singing a wide variety of music, from the great classical works of Bach, Handel and Mozart, to African- American spirituals to contemporary pieces. Isle Choral Singers will perform a mixed selection of religious and secular pieces.

Entrance to the concert is free and there will be ample chance to meet and socialise with our American guests - in fact, they have requested itover refreshments after the concert.

Epworth Music Day is a firm fixture in the social and musical calendar and Isle Choral Singers are now a firm fixture in the programme for the day. They will be performing at least two spots on June 22nd.

Then a mere ten days later, you are warmly invited to enjoy a great selection of songs, including popular numbers from musical theatre, at the Isle Choral Singers Summer Concert on July 13th at St Nicholas' Church, Haxey.

So ... lots of chances to see and hear your local choir in action. Isle Choral Singers look forward to seeing you at one of them , or better still, all of them!

Railway: A Spring of Activity and Summer Fun Awaits!

Crowle Peatland Railway is gearing up for a fantastic season after a busy spring filled with volunteer activity!

Spring Achievements:

 Our Easter Open Weekend was a huge success, welcoming a record number of visitors who enjoyed an Easter egg hunt across the scenic moors. The Moorside Cafe kept everyone fuelled for the adventure with delicious treats.

 Construction of the new platform is well underway, making the railway more accessible for everyone. This will allow visitors with limited mobility to easily board our trains and experience the magic of the peatlands.

 Our iconic tram is receiving a much-needed makeover! Volunteers have been meticulously working on the truck, removing electric motors and repairing the brakes and axles. This ensures the tram remains a reliable and cherished part of the Crowle Peatland Railway experience.

 Behind the scenes, our dedicated volunteers have been busy training new train drivers, planting native trees, protecting them from wildlife, and keeping our storage areas organized.

We've also been spreading the word by delivering presentations about the fascinating history of the Crowle Peatlands and its unique railway to external groups. If your group is interested in learning more, don't hesitate to get in touch!

Summer Fun:

Get ready for a summer filled with fun and discovery at the Crowle Peatland Railway! We've announced a jam-packed schedule of open days throughout the season:

 Train rides: Take a nostalgic journey on a charming peat train, offering a glimpse into the region's rich heritage.

 Moorland walks: Explore the vast expanse of the moors on foot and soak up the natural beauty.

 A taste of history: Learn about the intriguing history of the Crowle Peatlands and the vital role they played in the development of the area.

Delectable treats: Refuel after your adventures at the Moorside Cafe, offering a selection of drinks and snacks.
