The Over 60’s meeting on the 19th June were entertained by the Greenaway Singers, a small choir led by Mr Greenaway.

A good company of members were present and were given an evening of song and other solo tunes; all very enjoyable. We look forward to seeing them again in the future.

The entertainment for 21st July will be another group of local singers called the Wednesday Singers. Lots of room for more people to join. £2 entrance for non members.

Potts Lane Car Park Crowle = Anti-social behaviour and vehicle nuisance.

This location continues to be an area where bored mainly local youths, both male and female, are congregating and behaving in an anti-social manner. During May there have been five calls to the Police from local residents complaining about the noise generated by the youths often playing kicking a football against the car park wall and the manner in which some of their vehiPCSO 7889 PCSO 7576 cles are being driven. Two young male drivers have been visited and spoken to following complaints been made about their driving.

The Police Roads Policing Department have also been tasked with patrolling the area and several fixed penalty notices have been issued for various traffic offences. One male driver has been arrested for drink driving.

Last year the Partnership Agencies obtained a Dispersal Order in Crowle town centre which gave Police officers and Police Community Support Officers the power to direct people who are congregating together in such a way that likely to result in members of the public being intimidated, harassed, alarmed or distressed. The Dispersal Order was a success but was only implemented as a short term measures whilst other more suitable facilities were put in place for the youths. There are plans to erect a temporary CCTV camera in the car park to monitor the extent of the problem and to use the recordings as evidence to tackle any offences highlighted.

Update St Oswalds Church Grounds Church Street and Manor Park Johnsons Lane Crowle are two locations close to each other and have now been grouped together as one priority.

The Neighbourhood Team have spent extra time patrolling the area and speaking to any youths in the locality explaining the concerns of the residents. The youths generally accept what is said, not realising they were causing any problems, complaining that there is nowhere suitable in Crowle for them to gather and socialise. They have been advised to get together and approach the relevant agencies and voice their views and put forward any sensible requests. They have also been made aware of the groups which have been formed to promote more facilities in the area, such as the Crowle and District Sport, Play and Active Recreation Group. This group has this month circulated questionnaires to pupils at North Axholme School. The Neighbourhood team are looking for the support of parents to address these community concerns with their children, and for parents to take responsibility for knowing where they are on an evening and not allowing them to drink alcohol.

Recent Issues Production of Cannabis = A male has been bailed by North Lincolnshire Magistrates Court for the production of cannabis plants in Crowle. Also a male has been cautioned for this rtype of offence in Keadby. A male has also received a fixed penalty notice for possession of cannabis at Keadby. Update Cannabis Production and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon = A male from Crowle was found guilty at Grimsby Crown Court regarding the offences of possession of Cannabis a Class B drug and possession of an electric stun gun which is a prohibit weapon.

Update ASB Vehicles = The Neighbourhood Team Police are continuing to deal with anti-social use of vehicles in Crowle. The Roads Policing (Traffic) Department have also been tasked to patrolling the area and to deal positively with any offences revealed. Several fixed penalty tickets have been issued regarding traffic offences. Two young drivers have been issued warnings regarding their manner of driving. Update Criminal Damage = A female has been cautioned for the offence of criminal damage to a vehicle in Keadby. She had paid compensation to the complainant for the damage caused. Update Burglary = Four males arrested regarding the burglary of an unoccupied house at Keadby are still on bail whilst enquiries are continuing.

Update Going Equipped to Steal = Two males from Crowle have been released on bail by North Lincolnshire Magistrates Court for the offence of going equipped to steal following a number of thefts of fuel from unattended motor vehicles.

Arson with intent to endanger life= A female has been bailed to Grimsby Crown Court for the offence of arson to a house at Crowle with intent to endanger life.

Assault = A male has been charged and bailed to North Lincolnshire Magistrates Court following a complaint of assault in Crowle. Update Assault Charge =A male from Keadby has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent after an incident in Keadby. He is currently on bail to Grimsby Crown Court. Burglary = Two males have been cautioned for the theft of metal unoccupied premises at Keadby.

EPWORTH FREE SCHOOL The Rev. Henry Clifford, Rector of Wroot and predecessor of Samuel Wesley, set up Epworth Free School in 1711. Seven trustees and their heirs were appointed. The schoolmaster was provided with a house. Some land was allocated to provide for the school:

Schoolhouse croft 1 acre 1 rood 12 perches Church field South field 1 rood 27 perches East field Bellshaw 3 acres 3 roods 2 perches Total:

3 roods 5 perches 1 rood 28 perches

6 acres 2 roods 34 perches.

A limit of 14 scholars was fixed when the school opened. In 1829 the number was increased to 20.

Instruction was restricted to reading. Parents wishing their children to be taught writing had to pay 2/6 or 3/- (pre 1971 currency) a quarter. No child could stay at school for more than three years. In 1856 the school abolished any payment. In 1873 the Council of Education suggested that a school be set up to cope with 120 boys or 100 infants on or near the site of the Free School. A trustees meeting of 1874 was asked that the school be used as a Parish School, but this was refused. However, a piece of land in Battle Green was bought to set up a Board School. Mr. George Mason the master, opened this on October 6th 1876. The Free School finally closed in July 1880 and the 20 free scholars were transferred to the Board School.

Summer Holidays It‘s warm and sunny and dry – it must be summer!

Now that‘s where you are wrong. For years and years and years, even when I was a student many years ago, the warm, sunny and dry days came bang on queue just as serious revision for exams began! And just as exams ended and we looked forward to an extra long holiday, so the sun seemed to go on holiday too.

By the time you read this issue of Arrow, exams will be over and results days still way off – another six weeks or so to ‗top up the tan‘ or endure the rain. But the day of reckoning will soon be here – cries of delight for some and howls of disappointment for others.

So let‘s resolve to encourage those young people we know whilst they await those all so important results. Then we can be there to support them whatever the outcome. We can rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. Even if we don‘t personally know anyone sitting exams, we can still ask God to bless them whatever their results. As a God who loves us, He surely will.

The Beavers are currently working on their Outdoors Challenge badge, part of which involves making different types of boomerangs.

The Cubs have completed their DIY badge and are currently working on their Artist Badge.

The Scouts have been working on problem solving and team building and are currently working on the Small holder and Quartermaster badges.

Below is a photo of a selection of the Group who attended to St. Georges Day parade in Goole as part of Boothferry District parade. This is the last time the Group will be involved in a parade in Goole as due to organisational changes we will be moving to a new district covering the North Lincolnshire area.

There was a day out at Normanby Hall on 12th June, and the Camp on 17th to 19th June at Lincoln District camp site involving go-carting, ghost walk, geocaching, solar cooking and making water balloon throwing machines out of pioneering poles. There is also a day out to the National Railway Museum on the 2 nd July, PGL in September, and a Beaver sleepover in October. The Scouts will also be going on a number of caving trips and a two day walking combined with lightweight camping for the more adventurous in the Troop.

Primary school pupils and their mums, dads and grandparents took part in another workshop hosted by North Axholme School Media Arts College. The theme of the workshop was based on an exhibition at the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre by ‗Hanne Westergaard‘ called ‗Nature Observed‘. The children from our Partner Primary Schools along with Gunness & Burringham & Belton Primary School worked with their parents to create a hanging wire spiral mobile using a wide variety of materials such as paper, fabrics and natural materials which have been used in the exhibition and make clay beads with textural pressings. The event was led by Jo Miller from the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre in Scunthorpe.

One of the parents present said ―It was good working as a team and to have the creativity to make the clay beads, the kids enjoyed working with the clay, it was a really fun workshop‖.

Headteacher, Joe Sellars, said ‗these creative activities are really great at engaging our partner primary school pupils and their families in producing some wonderful work at North Axholme. ‗

Year 11 students celebrated the end of their compulsory education with a Prom held at Doncaster Rugby Club.

Almost 100 staff and students attended, arriving in style in a procession of limos. The evening included a formal 3-course meal, disco and photographer taking individual and group photos!! Behaviour was exemplary and various staff at the Rugby Club were kind enough to comment at the end of the evening on how polite and well behaved the students had been.

Althorpe and Keadby Primary School Newsletter Years 1 and 2 Visit Keadby Play Park On Monday 9th May, the children in Years 1 and 2 visited the park in Keadby. Year 1 played on all the equipment and each child took it in turn to take photos. The sun was shining and everyone had a great time. They looked carefully at how the playground equipment was made and, back in class, made their own models of swings, roundabouts and climbing frames. Year 2, meanwhile, explored how things moved and what they were made of. When they got back to class, they wrote a letter to the Parish Council to say thank you for all the new play equipment. Then, they designed and made their own park, with a slide, swings, a climbing frame, monkey bars, seesaw and a roundabout.

Chinese Head Teachers Visit Althorpe & Keadby School As part of our continuing link with Dalian in China, we have welcomed three Chinese head teachers into our school. The focus of their visit was Leadership and Management in the primary school and so Mrs Tate spent much of their two day visit talking to them about our policies, procedures and whole school practice. They visited Mrs Tate‘s home to see British family life in action and went out for a lovely meal to celebrate our link. The children, as always, did the school proud, demonstrating how hard they work and play.

The Friends of Althorpe and Keadby Primary School have been selected as the regional winner of the North of England and proceeded through to the UK national funds of the NCPTA Gold Star Awards 2011. Unfortunately we didn't win, but collected a trophy and £500 prize money as a regional winner!

“The Gold Start Awards recognise and reward the everyday achievements of PTAs throughout the region,” said Pauline Dent, NCPTA Adviser. “The standard of entries was very high this year and NCPTA commends all the applications received; to make it through to the national finals as the regional winner for the North of England in the PTA Fundraising Achievement category is an amazing feat and we wish the friends the very best of luck as they now go through to the final judging stage”.

The friends were looking for an innovative way to raise money and so hit upon the idea to take the school on tour! Initial investigations revealed that through the local area there were many events that would provide the Friends with the opportunity to raise the profile of the school whilst making money from running stalls such as hook-a-duck, pick- a- lolly and tombola. Committee member Julie Sillence said ―We booked a stall at two local events which were really attended by the local community; we were really busy! We raised over £800 and were so delighted that we had taken the Friends of Althorpe and Keadby Primary School on such a successful tour.‖ The money raised went towards the purchase of new books for the Key Stage 2 school library and towards Althorpe and Keadby Community Nature Area which is a new and exciting project to develop an area of land behind the school for the use of both the school and local community.

Securing Funding for a Community Nature Reserve The Friends of Althorpe and Keadby Primary School are delighted to announce that they have been successful in securing £79,270 to form the Althorpe and Keadby Community Nature Area.
