In early January we experienced a significant cold spell. Temperatures in Crowle dropped to as low as –7ºc with days struggling to reach above 3ºc. Please remember the more vulnerable people in your villages!

Isle of Axholme News Isle Group of the Lincolnshire The folk dances run by local folk dance band Lys St Georges continue Wildlife Trust British Wildlife by John Gardener Thursday February 6th 2025 7.30pm this spring as follows: Thursday 6 February Thursday 13 February Thursday 20 February Thursday 27 February Thursday 6 March Thursday 13 March Thursday 20 March Thursday 27 March They are all in Westwoodside Village Hall, starting at 2.30pm and lasting till 4pm.

You don’t need a partner nor any experience in country dancing, and these friendly dances will be suitable for all levels of fitness. There’ll be live music and expert tuition. As one dancer said at the end of an earlier programme ‘What's not to like! Live music, gentle exercise, lots and lots of fun and every assistance.’

Crowle & District WI meeting on Thursday 6th February 2025 is by Leanne Smart from Lincs Wildlife Trust, Far Ings Barton. She will talk to us about all aspects of Wildlife and how to look afer birds etc through the winter.. The venue is Crowle Community Hall, Woodland Avenue, Crowle DN17 4LL and starts at 7pm. We also hold a Welfare monthly for members who just want a chat or are feeling a bit lonely and want a cuppa and chat at Joy's house and we have a members sub group, Crafty Bees, which members can join for a small fee.

Please come along to any of our main meetings, you will be made very welcome.

Our February meeting will be on Thursday February 6th 2025 at 7.30pm when we will be having an illustrated talk on British wildlife, especially wildlife photographed in the Yorkshire area. John Gardener is a superb professional photographer whose main interest is in wildlife, although he does commercial photography for a living. He has visited us before several years ago and we know we will be in for a treat.

For your diary our future meetings will be:March 6th – Wildlife of the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds April 3rd - Wildlife of Florida May 1st - An evening with Matt Cox We meet at Belton All Saints Centre (Church Hall), Stocks Hill, Belton, DN9 1PE Everyone is welcome, you don't have to be a member of the Wildlife Trust, so please come along and join us. Entrance fee is £2.

On Your Doorstep at Garthorpe Village Hall “The Island in the Trent” The story of Island Farm, from the 17th to the 22nd Century. Jiggy Lloyd speaking, with contributions from the Reed family and the RSPB. Wednesday 5th February Doors will open at 7pm, when refreshments will be served, and the talk will begin at 7.30.

There will be a £3 entry charge per head, to cover glass of wine, tea or coffee.

It is not necessary to book in advance.

Get ready for an exciting spring at Crowle Peatland Railway!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our Christmas Event in December! Over a thousand delighted visitors made their way to Santa's Grotto at the end of the line, while many others enjoyed the festive atmosphere of the Christmas Market in the Barn. This event plays a crucial role in securing the necessary funds to cover our operating costs throughout the year. We hope you all had a wonderful time and look forward to welcoming you back to the railway throughout the coming year.

Upcoming Events:



Easter Weekend Open Days (April 19th & 20th): Enjoy a delightful Easter weekend with us! Trains will be running throughout both days, and the cafe will be open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, serving up delicious treats.

Sunday Brunch (March 23rd): Indulge in a hearty Sunday Brunch featuring Parkin's sausages and bacon. The cafe will be open from 10:00 am, and trains will be running from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Join the Fun! Even during the "off-season," the work continues at Crowle Peatland Railway! Our dedicated volunteers gather every Wednesday and Saturday morning from 10:00 am to lend a hand.

We offer a traditional 10-mile route and a shorter five-mile route, to encourage as many people as possible to get involved and experience the very special atmosphere that the Glow Walk evening brings.

Entry is £15, but if you're walking in a group of 5 or more, we're offering a discounted rate of £12.50 per person which you can select when purchasing your tickets.

New For This Year - Keep the party going and join us for Afterglow! We will be hosting a glow party at Redbourne Club the following night. Bolt-on your invite for an extra £5 when you secure your ticket! 13th September 7 pm - 11:30 pm.

We'll have pre-event music and a fun warm-up, and glow walkers are encouraged to literally light up the night with their outfits and accessories, whilst raising sponsorship to provide the much-needed funds Lindsey Lodge needs to continue to provide its care.

For the last mile of the walk, we are offering our walkers the option to walk with a memory lantern to remember their loved ones.

When they return to the Hospice there will be a designated area in our garden where they leave their candle on the letters spelling out ‘Glow’ and write a message if they wish. There will also be a screen sharing memory photos of our walkers’ loved ones, which they can send to us in advance by sending to marketing@lindseylodgehospice.org.uk Whether it’s to walk in memory of a friend or loved one, a way of keeping fit, or simply to do something different with your friends on a Friday night – whatever the reason, you’ll be sure of a fantastic night – all in aid of Lindsey Lodge!
