Welcome to the February issue of the Arrow.

It was great news to hear from Brigley House.

People came from all over the Isle and donated money to a great cause. Its great to see even when we have money problems the local people still dig deep to help people who really do need the help. Money raised was an astonishing £1139. Well done to everyone involved and everyone who made that trip!

If anyone fancies a trip out, The Haxey Amateur Dramatic Society are holding their annual production “Out of Focus”, by Peter Gordon. Performances will take place on March 20th, 21st, 27th and 28th in Haxey Memorial Hall so make a date for an evening of great entertainment. Ticket enquiries to 01427 754294. I have been to many of these productions and I can guarantee an evening full of fun and laughter!

News from Brigley House We set a target of raising £400, which would have been a great result in ordinary circumstances.

What we hadn’t counted on was the extraordinary response and support we received from everyone!

So from the first night of switch on until the end of December we had a constant stream of visitors from all over the North Lincs, North East Lincs, South Yorkshire area and indeed further afield.

The videos went “Viral” on Facebook and the Just Giving page and Text to donate number made a huge difference (especially as we managed to get them showing on the Facebook videos). We set up a specific Facebook page for the lights to keep people informed and to engage with people. On weekend nights we had 7 and 8 cars at a time sat watching the show with others waiting to get closer - it was just astonishing.

A double cheque presentation took place at the Crowle home of Val Janssen to show her appreciation of the treatment she received after suffering a stroke during 2014.

Along with her daughter Paula Buttrick and friend Lynn Whalley, a cheque for £575 was handed over to the Stroke Unit at Scunthorpe Hospital whilst in another gesture the trio also gave £250 to Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

The money was raised at two recent charity events, a Christmas Craft Fair at Ealand Victory Hall and a Fashion Show held at Crowle Village Hall.

Val, of Eastoft Road, Crowle, says: "This is one way of putting a little bit back to show how much we appreciate these two wonderful organisations. I'd also like to thank everyone who supported us at these events."

So I’m delighted to be able to tell you that the final amount raised was £1139.28 - almost 3 times the original target we had hoped to achieve!

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who visited and donated to support Lindsey Lodge Hospice and we are already planning December 2015!

For the second successive year, a black beauty in the shape of Dillon the donkey stole the limelight at the annual Carol Service at Crowle Methodist Chapel.

Around 100 parents and youngsters turned up to see Dillon being led into church by his Haxey-based owner Susan Owen.

And once again he was on his best behaviour for over half an hour inside the carpeted chapel leaving a stand-by shovel and bucket redundant!

Mrs Owen was presented with a bouquet of flowers by chapel steward, Pat Briggs as a token of thanks on behalf of the congregation whilst Dillon was treated to a bag of juicy carrots.

A cheque for ÂŁ50 from the collection is on its way to The Donkey Sanctuary charity in Devon to help less fortunate donkeys.

Student Newspaper Over the past few weeks, 20 students from Years 7, 8 & 9 have been busy preparing articles for the Spring edition of the ‘AX NEWS’.

This culminated in the students interviewing students and staff on various items such as news, sport and entertainment and then on Tuesday 13th January, Lincoln University journalism lecturers came to The Axholme Academy and spent a full day helping our students in bringing all their articles together to produce the ‘AX NEWS’.

Academy Principal, Joe Sellars, said ‘we have produced our newspaper working with Lincoln University for 6 years and each has been even better than the ones before and we expect the spring edition to keep up this high standard. Our students put in an awful lot of preparatory work before the full day with the university and this ensures that we produce a great read. An entirely new set of young reporters have worked on this paper and their enthusiasm and dedication has been exceptional.’

Copies of the newspaper will be distributed to students, parents & members of the community. It will also be available on our school website www.theaxholmeacademy.com

News from Haxey Amateur Dramatic Society.

The play has been chosen and cast and rehearsals are about to begin for Haxey’s Spring production. “Out of Focus”, by Peter Gordon.

It is an hilarious comedy which begins with a mix up over bookings for the local Church Hall.

Although tempers are frayed, all assembled are persuaded to take part in a production of Cinderella, but with no experience, patience is tested and clashes of personalities mean the show may not go on !

Well known faces will take to the stage in the shape Jeremy Cooper, John Spittlehouse, Colin Emery, Diane Corbett, Joan Young, Pat Ellison, Sheila Morrey and Ilene Pearson. The producer is Lenny Lowe.

Assembly and Awards – December 2014 Our end of year assembly and awards ceremony marked the achievements of many students rewarded for effort, art & design, debating and hard work and dedication The main trophies were awarded to the following students – Achievement Trophies Byiers Cup (For service to school) – Jade Curtis (Year 8) Jade has made a positive contribution to the school in many ways.

She always has a smile on her face and tries to do the best she can. She has assisted with recycling and doing other jobs around school and even had her own stall at the Christmas Fayre.

Cornelius Cup (Citizenship) – Chloe Neal & Peter Castledine (Head Boy & Head Girl) (Year 11) The cup is shared between two outstanding students. They give up their time without fuss and are happy to lead teams to provide fabulous care for students. Both students are loyal to the school and to staff and we are extremely proud of them.

Ian Oxborrow Cup (Determination & Perseverance) – Thomas Whieldon (Year 8) Thomas is always keen to do his best and tries hard in every situation. He has assisted with jobs around school including helping with recycling and taking part in sports activities to represent the school. He always has a smile on his face and is a pleasure to have around school.

Tim Buttrick Memorial trophy (PE/Sport) – David Camfield (Year 10) David consistently takes part in all extra- curricular activities. He has played badminton, hockey, cricket and competed in cross country & orienteering competitions.

He helps out with Sports morning and some our annual primary school festivals. He always puts 100% effort during all PE and Games lessons.

Other Awards were given toKacilei Bradwell (Year 7) – designing the front cover of the Christmas Concert programme Jay Johnson (Year 10), William McCullion, Sophie Walker, Chloe Saunders (all Year 9), Caitlin Young (Year 8) – were awarded certificates for winning their argument at The Great Debate This was also an opportunity to say farewell to a long serving teacher Mr Sennett (Head of PE) who listened to a song written especially for him to send him on his way!
