Welcome to the August issue of the Arrow!

England in a World Cup semi-final, who would have thought it some will say? The last time the Three Lions could boost such was on July 4, 1990. Of the 23 players currently in Russia, 16 were not alive when Bobby Robson's men lost to West Germany on penalties.

It was a memorable victory for England as they beat Sweden 2-0 to reach the World Cup semi-finals for the first time in 28 years. By the time you receive your copy of the Arrow we will know whether we have won the World Cup! Is football coming home?

Luddington and Haldenby Parish Council Newsletter, August 18.

The next meeting dates of the parish council are: - 6 August at 7.30pm and 3 September in the village hall.

Playground Committee.

The committee meet every third Monday at the River Don Eastoft at 6. 30pm.Everyone is welcome to attend. Volunteers will continue with grass cutting at the playing fields. The parish council assisted by Ward Councillors Julie Reed and John Briggs are working towards purchasing the playing field, for the community, with funding provided by North Lincolnshire Council. It is envisaged that other funding pots will be approached to assist with purchasing new playground equipment. Recently quotes have been obtained to purchase brand new equipment for both younger and older children.

Public participation/Planning process.

There is a 10-minute session at the start of all meetings which provides time for residents to discuss any concerns or to just attend to observe proceedings. Residents are invited to attend the Parish Council meeting to provide additional details of their planning applications.

2018/2019 Precept The precept for the coming year is £6978 which includes a discretionary grant of £478.Most of this amount is spent on cutting the large areas of grass throughout the whole village, the Clerks wages, some light tree work and litter picking to keep your village clean and tidy. This year there will be additional expenses to be paid for, if the adoption of the playing field is given a green light.

This year North Lincolnshire Council have given the parish council a grant of £250 to support North Lincolnshire in Bloom. This has been spent on planting wild flowers throughout the village. The presentation of a certificate from North Lincolnshire leader Rob Waltham, Mayor and Ward Councillors J Briggs and J Reed took place on 25 July at 6pm.

Village Hall events. Every Tuesday of the month there is a fund-raising bingo, 28 August.

Planned events for later in the year are disco/ karaoke, Paul Hazel, and a Christmas Fayre.

This lovely boy is Archie, a four year old Whippet cross who is looking for a new home. Archie is a really friendly affectionate boy, who loves to play and go for long walks. He also loves cuddles! We are looking for an active home for him with no other pets and older children, where he has a nice garden to play in. Archie is neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. The Kate Greenaway shadowing scheme The Kate Greenaway shadowing scheme is designed to encourage children to participate in discussions around books through their illustrations. Molly Turner, Alex Rushworth, Alice Jones and Will Harrison from 8L were selected to take part in the scheme. For three afternoons in June the students attended Eastoft Primary School where they read and discussed this year's shortlisted books with year 3 & 4 pupils, wrote on line book reviews and took part in a joint art project. Following this, a celebration event, including the announcement of the winner (The Town is by the Sea Joanne Schwartz and Sydney Smith) was held.

Epworth Music Day 2018 Sunday morning in Epworth. Well, the sun's shining and it's a quiet Sunday morning. Bit like any other summer Sunday. So, what happened in Epworth yesterday? Was there really over 80 hours of music stretched across the daytime and evening? With so many, so many people about.

Peter Barnard, Co-Director of Epworth Music Day, said ‘I had thought that Epworth Music Day 2017 had been special, and now I know just how special it was. Last year we gave those who were at Epworth Music Day 2017 so much fun that they got what we have created. And they wanted it again, yes they wanted more please!! And yesterday, here in Epworth at Epworth Music Day 2018 they turned out to have their fun repeated. And they brought their friends, family and neighbours – just as we'd asked!! So, I'm very pleased and proud of what we have brought to this community. And what an awesome day it was.

We want to thank all the performers who took part yesterday. All the venues. All the spectators and listeners. All the sponsors and funders. All the stewards. All my Epworth Music committee members. And most of all my fellow director, Kate Billmore. It was her and my idea to create this wonderful celebration of live music in North Lincolnshire, and we're so proud of how fabulously it ran.

We're not going to make Epworth Music Day into something it's not. It'll continue to be held in the centre of the village and outdoors; a free to all event; and will be about promoting and celebrating the power of live music. A real community event, put on by the community for the community. Next year it's on Saturday 22 June. Add it to your diary now and spread the word! If you want to play at it, contact me now at peter.barnard@me.com’ One of the many spectators in Epworth on Saturday said ‘A huge thank you to the organisers for yet another wonderful Music Day. It is a brilliant event and brings the community together in the best possible way. The format is perfect, we are already looking forward to the next one in 2019.’

And what’s the play about? Well - Romeo and Juliet fall in love, despite the fact that both their families hate each other. Hilarity ensues... Well, sort of…. Romeo and Juliet fall in love at a party, despite the fact that both their families hate each other. They know that they will never be allowed to marry in public, so they elope, and with the help of Friar Laurence, marry in secret instead.

Unfortunately, before their wedding night Romeo kills Juliet’s cousin in a duel, and in the morning, he is forced to leave her. If he ever returns to the city, he will be put to death. Juliet’s parents have told her that she must marry Count Paris, but they do not know that she is already married. At first she refuses, but later agrees because she plans to fake her death and escape to be with Romeo forever; again with the help of Friar Laurence. Friar Laurence designs the plan and gives Juliet a sleeping potion that will ensure she appears lifeless. He fails however, to enlighten Romeo as to the plan’s design. So, Romeo then does what all good lovers would...
