It was with great regret that I had to announce that Rescue Day 2012 (14th July) was cancelled due to spate weather and site conditions.

The Rescue Day Committee conducted a full site inspection on the 6 July, as public safety is of paramount importance, the decision to cancel this year’s event was made.

7 Lakes is situated on what is predominantly a clay based soil. The rainfall during the previous weeks and months caused the clay to absorb excessive rainfall and was consequently well past saturation point. The main display fields and Rescue Day car parks were inaccessible to vehicles and foot traffic and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

Isle of Axholme – North Ward Priorities** for full details go to the Humberside Police web page** Market Place, Crowle – Anti-social behaviour and Criminal Damage to Property. This priority has been upgraded from being last month’s number two priority.

During June there have been six calls for service for the Market Place and Potts Lane although three of these related to the same incident on Potts Lane where a group of youths had overturned the North Lincolnshire Council grit box and PCSO 7576 PCSO 7889 PC1717 were throwing the contents around. The Neighbour Policing Paul Fearon Wendy Frear Graham Godley Team attended and some of the youths were identified and spoken to about their actions in the presence of their parents. A further call was received regarding vehicles parking in Potts Lane car park and sounding their horns unnecessarily whilst stationary. The drivers have been visited and given the appropriate advice and warnings regarding their actions.

Two calls for the Market Place related to persons playing loud music from stationary vehicles gathering in the square and a report of plants having been uprooted from the ornamental planters and being thrown around the pedestrian area. CCTV footage is being viewed to try and identify the offenders for the damage to the plants.

The Neighbourhood Team include the area on the regular patrol matrix and stop and check any vehicles and persons in the area. Often groups are spoken to in the Market Place but are not committing any offences and so the Police have no powers to move them on from the public area. Any offences which are revealed are dealt with positively.

Vicars Walk and Church Street, Crowle – Anti-social behaviour and vehicle nuisance in the car park and youths congregating and causing a nuisance to local residents. This priority has been downgraded from being last month’s number one priority. During June there has been only one call for service and this was regarding theft of lead flashing from the porch of St Oswalds Church. There were other similar reports of theft from other areas in Crowle around the same time. Other lead on the church roof has now been security marked in other to deter further offences.

Five youths have been spoken to in relation to the damages to the garden wall on Vicars Walk in March and April and are awaiting a decision on what is to happen to them. Recent Issues ASSAULT AND THREATS OF UNLAWFUL VIOLENCE = A male from Keadby has appeared at North Lincolnshire Magistrates Court for four separate offences of assault and threats of violence and has been remanded on bail. DRUGS OFFENCE = A male from Crowle has been dealt with at North Lincolnshire Magistrates Court for the possession of the controlled drug Cannabis. He received a £75 fine and ordered to pay £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge. BREACH OF RESTRAINING ORDER = A male from Eastoft has appeared at court after breaching a restraining order by contacting the complainant and has been remanded in custody until the next court date. DRUGS OFFENCE = A drugs warrant was executed at premises in Eastoft and a male has been interviewed regarding drug related matters. The plants have been identified as the Controlled B Drug Cannabis and the male has now been reported for summons to appear at court. THEFT = A male from Keadby has been dealt with at North Lincolnshire Magistrates Court for theft and other offences and given a prison sentence suspended for twelve months, order to carry out 150 hours community service and to pay £829 in compensation. HARASSMENT= A male from Crowle appeared at North Lincolnshire Magistrates Court for the offence of harassment and was released on bail. TRAFFIC OFFENCES = A male has been reported for summons regarding using a motor cycle on land other than a road on Chapel Lane at Keadby. ASSAULT = A twelve year old male from Keadby has been dealt with for an offence of assault. At the request of the complainant he was spoken to by the police and warned regarding his future actions. ASSAULT = A male from Crowle has been charged with an offence of common assault and will be appearing at North Lincolnshire Magistrates Court. HARASSMENT = A male from Crowle has been charged with an offence of harassment and will be appearing at North Lincolnshire Magistrates Court.

A group of school children are taking part in Lifestyle 2012 with the Humberside Police. The group, "Alexanders Angels" include Hannah Piggott, Freya Trippett, Georgia Sitch and George Shapland. They are all 12 years old and year 7 pupils at South Axholme.

They have decided to help to raise £90,000 for Alexander Strong, a 7 year old boy from Epworth, who has been living with Neuroblastoma since he was four. He had a large tumour removed last year but he is undergoing a second course of aggressive chemotherapy after another tumour appeared under his arm and spread across his chest. The £90,000 is needed for Alexander to go abroad for treatment, to either Germany or the USA. After already holding a stall at Epworth Primary summer fair, Alexanders Angels have organised a charity flower demonstration with all the ladies at Fountain Court Florist at the Wesley Chapel in Epworth on Wednesday 15 August, a charity darts night at the Old School Inn Public House on Saturday 18th August, a fun day with a raffle at the Old School Inn on Sunday 19th August and finally a sponsored walk on Sunday 2nd September. They want as many members of the community as possible to come together to help Alexander and his family.

We are appealing for anybody who wishes to run a stand (jewellery, cakes, preserves, crafts etc) at the fun day on Sunday 19th August. We are asking £20.00 for the rental of a stand and then whatever the stallholder makes on the day is theirs. If any singers, musicians, magicians, entertainers etc wish to donate some of their time, or if anyone would like to rent a stall then please call Samantha on 0771 424 0112.

On Wednesday 27th June 2012 a group of students, staff and family members set off on a very early 5am trip to Grimsby. The reason for this trip was to see Katie Chester from The Axholme Academy in her proud Olympic Torchbearer moment! We set off early in the morning to ensure that we had a prime spot along the route that she was to carry the torch.

She had found out a few days previously that she was going to be carrying the torch along Bargate in Grimsby between College Street and Welhome Road.

Most of us decided to stand towards the end of the route so that we could see the ‘torch kiss’ with the next runner. A few people, including Katie’s mother Fiona Chester and friend Charlotte Coulman decided to run alongside Katie for the 300 metres that she would carry the torch. We got ourselves all lined up, holding our Union Jacks and ‘Run, Katie, Run’ Posters in order to suitably cheer her on! After the activation convoy passed we were waiting in anticipation for Katie to arrive and she eventually did at just gone 7am. She ran alongside us with a huge smile on her face, high fiving Phoebe Shipman and Harry Bramhill as she went past. She then stopped for her handover, posing for a few photos before jumping back on the bus. We were all extremely proud to have seen her carry the torch and had a brilliant morning before heading back to school.

We spoke to the torchbearer herself who said “It was an amazing day which couldn’t have been any better”. “I am really grateful to all the people who came and supported me, it was lovely”.

On Thursday 28th June 2012 almost 200 students headed down to Quibell Park to take part in The Axholme Academy’s Annual Sports Day. Sports Day changed a bit this year as form’s were allowed to enter either 1 or 2 athletes into the track events, with all athletes that competed earning points for their form. This meant that more students than ever were involved in Sports Day, competing to win the coveted Sports Day trophy and showing that they are the best athletes in their Year Group. We had very temperamental weather conditions for the second year running which even lead to the relay events having to be abandoned in the morning due to thunder and lightning storms. There was doubt as to whether we could return in the afternoon for the field events but the rain started to clear up slightly and the field competitors went back out to brave the elements. To say the weather was bad did not dampen spirits whatsoever and we had 15 school athletics records broken over the course of the day, which can be seen below.

The PE department will be running the relay events and any others that didn’t get completed in the students Games lessons over the coming weeks therefore overall form winners will be announced towards the end of the Summer term so Good Luck!

Thanks to a grant, 12 boys from Althorpe and Keadby Primary School have enjoyed three afternoon fishing sessions at a pond in Blyton.

The sessions were organised by Pisces angling club, who were brilliant with our children aged from 7 to 10, and encouraged them all to try new things as well as developing their existing skills.

Head teacher, Sarah Tate was keen to develop the sessions as many of the children already do some fishing at the canal and she felt it was another way of encouraging boys to spend time outside.

The link with Pisces angling club began back in October when they visited the school to give an assembly and played some skill games with groups of children.

This inspired the school to invest in fishing books for the library which the children chose and to subscribe to the Angling Times.

The highlight for Robert Whitehead Y2, was catching the largest fish during the first afternoon - a 2lb mirror carp.

Ryan Elviss Y5, enjoyed the Young Leader role he was given after the first session, wearing his cap with pride, Ryan an experienced fisherman, helped and supported the other boys.

Mrs Tate was proud that she caught two fish and managed to touch the maggots.

The highlight, however, for Mrs Tate was "observing the sheer joy and delight on the face of the boys throughout the whole afternoon and hearing their shouts of delight when they had caught one. The anticipation of pulling the catch out was very exciting and it was wonderful to hear the calls of encouragement to each other."

We are planning to continue the link and so look forward to many more of our children experiencing the wonder of fishing.

Secret Garden Pre-School children were lucky enough to see the Olympic torch when it came through Hatfield on 26th June 2012. It was a very exciting day and one which the children and staff can remember and cherish forever. Since then the children have been learning all about the countries taking part in the Olympics, and creating art work and reading books, the children now know about the origins of the Olympics and about famous athletes who will be taking part this year in both the Paralympics and Olympics. They will also be having their own sports day during Paralympics week.

SECRET GARDEN PRIVATE CHILDCARE have a fabulous re-developed Garden area which is suitable for ages 0 – 11 years olds. We have a separate baby area, as well as separate water & digging areas and a beautiful gazebo and willow den. We value outdoor play and recognise that it is as important as indoor play and are extremely excited that our children have this wonderful garden to play in and enhance their learning.

Playgroup Sessions for 2 years + Monday to Friday 9-11.30 am £7.00

A great opportunity for your child to learn through play and make new friends in a safe, stimulating environment, run by qualified childcare staff.
