April brings Mothers day and Easter and of course the Royal Wedding on Friday 29th April. I must admit this is my favourite time of year. Not just for the chocolate eggs but it is a feel good month. The clocks have gone forward bringing lighter evenings; the spring flowers are in abundance; everything just seems so much better after the long Winter! On saying that i have just heard the dreadful news in Japan; we are so lucky in this country not to suffer such natural disasters!

The priorities for Axholme North are as follows:Crowle Town Centre – Anti-social behaviour and vehicle nuisance.

The Dispersal Order in Crowle town centre has now expired and has helped tackle the anti-social behaviour in the area. Prior to the order being applied for public perception regarding problems in the area was 9.3 out of 10. A target was set to reduce that to 4 or below but PCSO PCSO 7576 PC1717 recent consultations with residents have revealed a score Wendy Frear Paul Fearon Graham Godley of 5 out of 10. Residents have commented on the reduction of anti-social behaviour in the area. At the NAT meeting on Tuesday 1st March 2011 this priority was discussed as there appears to be no issues at this time with very low calls for service but in the absence of any other major problems on the ward it was decided by the NAT members to keep this as a priority for the time being.

The Neighbourhood team are looking for the support of parents to address these community concerns with their children, and for parents to take responsibility for knowing where they are on an evening and not allowing them to drink alcohol. The Crowle Youth Club, Street Sports and other activities are provided by the local and town council. Crowle Town Council is currently looking into what facilities they may be able to provide in the future for the young people. A car has been seized from a male driver as a result of there being no valid insurance cover for the vehicle.

Keadby Anti-Social Behaviour and Vehicle Nuisance Station Road.

At the NAT meeting on Tuesday 1st March 2011 this priority was discussed. There have been no further calls for service but youths in cars are continuing to congregate in the car park of the playing field due to the lack of other facilities in the village. It was raised that some of the litter in the area is being generated by pupils waiting for the morning school bus to North Axholme. The head at the school is to be contacted and made aware of the problem.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team is continuing to patrol the area and will liaise with Street Sports, local residents and the Parish Council. Partnership work has also been instigated and there have been media releases to encourage people to make reports of instances and also to name any offenders seen or involved in this anti-social behaviour.

Wildlife Crime.

In the absence of a third priority being set at the NAT meeting it was decided to keep Wildlife Crime on the list.

Wildlife crime is of concern to farmers and landowners on the Isle of Axholme. Some offenders are travelling great distances with dogs to trespass on land in the search and pursuit of game, mainly hares and deer. It is important that every effort is made to reduce the opportunity for this type of crime to occur and to bring offenders to justice. The Neighbourhood team together with their uniformed colleagues recognise the importance of creating secure environments for farmers and landowners on the Isle of Axholme. There is a Farm Watch/ Country Watch scheme running and together we are actively seeking ways to resolve this issue. Since the last monthly update there have been a number of calls for service across the Scunthorpe Division in relation to persons poaching on farm land. The offenders are usually in vehicles and move from area to area in search of game. Several males have been spoken to and reported for summons regarding poaching offences.

Possession of Cannabis = A male at Keadby has been issued with a warning after being found to be in possession of a small amount of cannabis for his own personal use. The drugs were seized and have been destroyed.

Update re Cannabis Production = A male from Crowle is currently on bail to North Lincolnshire Magistrates Court regarding the offences of possession of cannabis a class B drug, production of cannabis with intent to supply and possession of an electric stun gun which is a prohibit weapon. Update re ASB Vehicles = The Neighbourhood Team and Roads Policing continue to deal with anti-social use of vehicles in Crowle. One male has been stopped regarding his manner of driving and has had his vehicle seized as there was no valid insurance in force. Update Traffic Offences = An off road motorcycle has been seized from males on Chapel Lane Keadby after being used on the public roads without valid insurance cover. Update re Firearms Offences = Three males have been dealt with regarding firearms offences at Crowle. Update re Wild Life Crime = Several males have been reported for daytime poaching offences in the area. The offenders use vehicles to move around the Scunthorpe Police Division and are known to have been hare coursing on farm land at Eastoft. Update re Theft of Motor Vehicle = A male has been arrested for theft of a motor vehicle after being seen driving a Ford Transit tipper and abandoning it in Crowle. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Scunthorpe. Enquiries regarding the theft are still ongoing. Update re Theft From A Dwelling = A male from Crowle has been charged with the offence of theft of items from a family address and has been bailed to court.

ST ANDREWS PARISH CHURCH – EPWORTH The parish church is a collection of architectural building periods extending from the 12 th century. The remnants of the Early English Period of architecture (1189-1272) can be seen in the Chancel Arch and the aisle arcades. Between 1272 and 1377 the architectural age was the Decorated period. This is represented by the window in the west end of the north aisle that is now used as a choir vestry; also the windows of the chancel are of this period. The lion motif of the Mowbray family can be seen on the West Wall inside the North Porch. Between 1377 and 1547 was the Perpendicular Period. The Tower, the clerestory and many windows and battlements constructed over the aisles, were built in this period. The Priest’s Vestry is also of this period. During the Civil War, fanatics desecrated the church so that only the walls were left standing. The church was rebuilt from the ruins with alterations. For instance the Chancel was made smaller. There were two chantries at one time, now the organ occupies one and the other at the end of the south aisle has disappeared.

In 1868 the church was renovated. The Nave was re-floored, the north and south aisles were re-roofed and a new pulpit, altar and altar rails were installed.

Within the church are a number of objects of historic interest. There are two chairs that date from the 16th and 17th centuries. There is also the old parish chest from the 16th century where parish records were kept together with a 17th century Chalice, presented to Samuel Wesley The Church Register dates from 1538 showing baptisms, weddings and funerals as ordered by Thomas Cromwell, minister of HenryV111. There was a Mazor Bowl dating from 1525 made out of wood but this was sold in 1947 for £1000,00. The church has eight bells, of which were recast in 1937 together with a Coronation Bell (note F). The grave of Samuel Wesley is of obvious historic interest. In 1742 when revisiting Epworth, John Wesley offered to take the morning services at the church, but the curate, Rev. John Romley, rejected his offer. In the evening, however Wesley took his father’s tombstone as a pulpit and preached to a vast crowd. In the first decade of the 21st century Restoration was extensively carried out.

2nd Crowle Scout Group The Beavers are currently working on the Friendship badge which involves learning about different countries including Spain and China.

The Cubs are currently working on their DIY badge which includes understanding how to use tools safety.

The Scouts are also working on their DIY badge. This involves painting part of the building and practical exercises including changing electrical plugs safely and bleeding radiators.

24 Cubs and Scouts also enjoyed a day on a high ropes course at Market Rasen.

The next day out is swimming on the 2nd April involving both badge work and use of the pools inflatable.

Planning is well underway for a trip to PGL in September and a camp at Lincoln in June.

St Norbert’s Catholic Primary School Newsletter Welcome to our April Newsletter.

We were very fortunate in January to be able to welcome HRH Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to our school for a visit. The Prince was attending the “Look All Around You” concert at the Plowright Theatre on the evening of 28th January and was invited to our school to meet our children prior to the concert.

Some of the children in our upper school gave a performance to the Prince in the afternoon which included choral speaking, music and dance. Parents had also been invited to the concert.

The Prince then accepted a cheque for £300 which we had raised towards his charity. This charity supports and educates orphans from Lesotho whose parents have died of Aids.

Prince Seeiso then spent time in the classrooms with all the children answering their questions. We understand that he thoroughly enjoyed his time spent in the school and we look forward to welcoming him again.

Following on from this visit, we hope to be able to forge links with a primary school in his country.

Our Choral Speaking Group and two dancers then attended the evening concert at the Plowright Theatre to raise further funds for the Look All Around You Charity.

The photographs show the Prince with the children who performed in the afternoon concert and the children welcoming him to our school.

We have also been very fortunate this month to receive two donations, one from the Crowle and Ealand Regeneration Group and one from the Crowle Masonic Community Fund. These donations will be put towards the purchase of a Coomber Audio System for the school. We would again like to say thank you to both groups. Their gesture was very kind and very much appreciated.

Our Shining Stars Nursery Group is up and running again on a Monday afternoon and a Thursday morning.

The newly extended hall provides a considerable amount of space for everyone to join in the fun. We would like to say thank you to everyone who has attended so far and look forward to welcoming new parents and children to our group.

Our Easter Bingo takes place on Wednesday 6 th April, doors open for refreshments at 6.30pm with “eyes down” at 7.30pm. This year‟s Summer Fayre will take place on Saturday 11 th June from 11am to 2pm.

There will be all the usual fun and games including the bouncy castle, cafe, grand draw, bottle tombola etc. Everyone is very welcome to attend both these events and we look forward to welcoming you into our school.

North Axholme School News Since we returned to school after half-term, some of our students have been involved in producing our school newspaper called the NAX NEWS. This culminated in the students researching and preparing articles on various items such as news, entertainment & sport and then on the 22nd February Lincoln University Journalism lecturers and final year students came to North Axholme School and spent a full day supporting our students in bringing all their articles together to produce the NAX NEWS. Copies of the newspaper will be distributed to students, parents and members of the community. It will also be accessible on our school website www.northax.net where you will find lots of information about the school. One of the big stories focuses on our Olympic hopeful Lynda Braithwaite & Milly Pottage swimmer, Molly Grayson. Molly has won many awards and the latest came only a few days ago when she received the North Lincolnshire Young Female Sports Achiever of the Year Award at the Ancholme Leisure Centre, Brigg. Well done Molly!

The school is also celebrating that for the second year running we are to receive an award from the Specialist School and Academies Trust. They are for our 2010 results.

The first is for excellent value added which shows that our students actually achieve much better than might be expected when they first enter the school.

Althorpe and Keadby School Council Join The St Andrew’s Church Restoration Project Althorpe and Keadby Primary‟s School Council have been asked by St Andrew‟s Church in Epworth to be part of their restoration project. This involves designing a picture for the clay tiles to be placed around the font. These designs need to reflect Keadby and Althorpe life.

In order to get a better feel for the project, the School Council and our head teacher, Mrs Tate, accompanied the councillors to the Church one Friday morning. We met Melvyn Rose, Janet and Sarah, the artists, who explained all about the massive project and how the improvements will change the church.

We then visited the Tiny Tea Pot Café for hot chocolate, milkshakes and cake. It was a fantastic way to end the visit!

On Friday 4th February the artist, Sarah, Janet and John, visited our school to work with the 10 of our talented young artists (and us) on the designs for the tiles. Each artist spent a great afternoon drawing and painting their designs.

These designs have been sent off to the Church Committee and we await the results with great excitement!
