to the August issue of the

Branton & AuckLey Arrow Hot hot hot! I hope everyone coped with our heatwave in July. A sunny day improves the mood of us all, but sweltering temperatures like the ones reached in July made it difficult for many of us (Animal friends included) to function normally. We have been told to expect more summers like this, a further effect of climate change.

The Arrow went to print earlier than usual due to the holiday period and I had just found out the news that Doncaster Sheffield Airport has started a 6 week consultation to review its future. The closure of our airport would have a detrimental effect on our villages and Doncaster City and I plead with you to do all you can to support our Airport.

Lobby our MP Nick Fletcher, sign petitions and keep up to date on what’s happening.

The airport is something we are proud of and part of our landscape, heritage and history, please help to save our Airport.

On a brighter note, our annual Auckley Show is ready to go with an abundance of events and shows lined up starting on the evening of Friday 19th August till Saturday evening. You will find all the information you need in this month’s Arrow. Checkout the show schedule and get your exhibits ready!!

The September issue deadline is Wednesday 17th August. The Arrow will be delivered before 1st September.

Community News FINNINGLEY WI We have our summer break in August, but we will be back on 15th September with our regular third Thursday of the month meeting at 7.15pm in the village hall. We always welcome guests so come along and see what we have to offer.

Unusually, Cantley with Branton WI are holding a meeting in August, as we had to cancel one earlier in the year.

It would be lovely to see new faces, so why not come and join us as we listen to our speaker, former radio presenter, Gerry Kersey? The meeting takes place in Kilham Hall on Thursday 11th August at 7 pm until 9 pm.

Our monthly meetings are always held on the second Thursday of the month at 7pm - 9pm in Kilham Hall, Kilham Lane, Branton, DN3 3PF. The hall is wellventilated and spacious and hand sanitiser is available.

Light refreshments are served during the evening and, of course, there is a raffle.

The 24th June saw the official opening of Misson Primary School’s unique outside classroom and learning area, as well as the planting of our Queen’s Jubilee tree. Blake from The Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust cut the ribbon before we enjoyed an afternoon of fun and games at our summer fayre.

The support and kind words we have received from children, parents and the local community has been nothing but astounding, as we embark on a new, exciting chapter at Misson Primary. This amazing addition is already proving to be very popular, as we have taken our classroom learning outside. The facility caters for all our children, regardless of age.

Our Key Stage 1 children have produced some fantastic pieces of artwork as they enjoyed doing observational drawing, using our new easels and water colour sets.

Key Stage 2 learnt about separating materials, filtration and evaporation in their science lesson, using the soils and various other natural resources within the area.

As we move into the summer holiday, the excitement is certainly felt in and around our school. We have so many things to look forward to. This is just the beginning of a very promising future for the children of our school.

Community News It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of Patricia Schofield. As many will know, Patricia was a long standing resident of Blaxton and active for decades working on behalf of the community in local organisations and at DMBC. She was a Member of the Parish Council for around 50 years, a member of the Blaxton Village Hall Committee from before that and a staunch supporter of the Blaxton and Finningley Joint Playing Field and the efforts to establish a Pavilion there.

Patricia regularly attended Cantley with Branton Parish Council meetings in her role as Ward councillor.

Patricia was committed to her role and a keen supporter of local community life and doing the right thing, all with an abundance of energy which defied her age. RIP Patricia, and sincere condolences to your family and friends. Patricia’s funeral will be held on Thursday 28th July at 12:45 at St Wilfrid's Church, Cantley, followed by short committal at Rose Hill and then on to Mount Pleasant.

This abandoned jewelry box was found by local resident, Garry Burns at the bottom of Whiphill Top Lane on Monday 11th July. It has been there some time and contained some costume jewelry and a couple of watches none of which are valuable but may have sentimental value to someone.

BRANTON ST WILFRID’S PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWS Race for Life returned again this year, and we were thrilled to welcome parents and friends back into our school!

Everyone had a fantastic time, and it was great to see families running together to raise money for a great cause. This year we have raised over £750!!

Thank you to everyone for their donations, which will go a long way to finding a cure for Cancer.

Auckley Show August 20th 2022 The Run‐Up to the Show This is where you can really be part of Auckley Show and show your talents. Get your Entries ready! There are classes for all to enter‐‐Vegetables, Fruit, Eggs, Flowers, Wines, Arts and Cra s, Photos and Baking, together with lots of classes for children to enter. The schedule is on the website and published in the August issue of the Branton and Auckley Arrow. Look around your garden for those flowers and plants to make a great Floral display in the marquee!!

The challenging theme for 2022 Scarecrows is ‘Fairies’ and Fairy themed gardens. Have your display ready from 1st August onwards to create a fabulous community atmosphere.

Don’t forget the Family Disco in the main marquee 6pm to 9pm on Friday 19th August. A small cover charge of £1 Adults £2 Children is payable at the door. Bar facili es and refreshments will be available.

Show Day Come and join us for a great day out, The Show is the exci ng venue to catch up with friends old and new.

The Exhibits Marquee is open from 8.30am to 10.45 am to receive your entries, all free! We provide a short stay car park for those dropping off exhibits. Judging starts at 11am.

Car Parking is FREE as is Entry to the showground. We are proud to be supported by 558 Squadron Air Cadets based at Sixth Avenue, Auckley. Please follow instruc ons to ensure a safe entrance and exit. Easy access parking is available for blue badge holders only. The car park gets busy at mes, please be pa ent and respect our young volunteers.

Trading in the Cra Marquee and Showground starts at 10.30am with a selec on of refreshments from our regular food vendors, burgers, hot dogs, pizza, Jamaican, hog roast & potato tornadoes.

We can announce that the biggest and best Tombola returns with a new team, Jenny, Sue, Wendy and Project Manager, Julie Turton. They will be selling ckets from 10.30am in the main marquee We are pleased to welcome two of the Co‐founders of YWP, Mr John Minion CEO and Ms Cheryl Williams, Director, to officially open the show at 12noon. I am also pleased to announce that because of increased sponsorship by Yorkshire Wildlife Park we can confidently go ahead and fund the addi onal 4th Marquee 120’ x 40’ which we will name ‘The Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Children’s Entertainment Marquee’ Here there will be magic and Punch and Judy performances throughout the a ernoon.

Immediately following the opening Auckley’s local young band ‘Freightdogs’ will perform the first of two spots. Helen Evans, another local entertainer, will follow.

The Fun Dog Show will be in the Main Arena, for further details contact Cheryl Manton on 07949 974133.

Registra on to enter will begin from 12 noon on Show day.

This will be followed by Tradi onal Children’s Sports and Tug o War. The Escafeld Medieval Society will perform in arena 2 throughout the a ernoon with re‐enactment ba les and various interac ve displays.

The Eagle and Child Outside Stage Area will have bar facili es and entertainment by local bands Lizard, Annabel Tang, Cosmic 21 and more to be announced.

New for 2022 is a third bar ‘The Cocktail Carriage’ serving Cocktails, Mocktails, Prosecco and a selec on of flavoured Gins.

Another new sponsor for 2022 are ‘Clean ‐ n ‐ Bright’ who will provide help to keep the site dy through‐ out the weekend.

The Trophies Presenta on will be in the Main Marquee at 4pm followed by the exci ng Auc on of un‐ claimed exhibits that has turned into a highlight to end the show.

We will end the day with the Raffle draw. This year our star prize is a bike donated by a new sponsor, ‘Cycle Supreme’ of Benne horpe Doncaster. It is an Oreba MX finished in metallic black gloss and grey ma e with a retail value of £719. Other fantas c prizes include day passes for The Yorkshire Wild Park and Meet the Animals free passes, this promises to be our best ever raffle, keep an eye out on social media for more details of further prizes.

Saturday Evening There are s ll ckets at £10 each availa‐ ble for our “Adults Only” Saturday night event from 7pm to 11.30pm. I can book and reserve you a table if you have 8 to 10 in your group. We have an eigh es themed Band “POPWORKS” supported
