Congratulations to local ice skating star Molly Lanaghan, who dazzled audiences and judges alike to win Dancing on Ice with her partner Sam Aston from Coronation Street! Originally from Branton, Molly’s talent and dedication have been truly inspirational, and the community is incredibly proud of her achievement.

As we look ahead, preparations are well underway for the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Auckley Parish Council invites everyone to join their commemorative event at the Auckley Scout Hut on 8th May. Don’t miss this opportunity to come together and honour this historic occasion—more details can be found on page 21.

With the Easter break just around the corner, there are plenty of ways to keep the family entertained. Yorkshire Wildlife Park has an exciting lineup of activities planned, while Boston Park Farm is celebrating a special springtime surprise—the arrival of their first set of quadruplet lambs in 25 years! What a wonderful way to welcome the season of renewal.

Last but not least, congratulations to my home town, the Toon! Fantastic result at Wembley and a well deserved win.

Stay engaged, enjoy the festivities, and celebrate all that our community has to offer!

The May issue deadline for adverts and content is earlier than normal and will be Monday 14h April 2025 due to the holiday period. The Arrow will be delivered by 1st May.

Best Wishes

DONCASTER CANCER DETECTION TRUST

April is such a lovely month, with the promise of warmer days and lighter evenings. We are very happy to report that, with your generous donations, we have purchased a USS lung machine for Doncaster Royal Infirmary at a cost of £19,500. This is a chest ultrasound machine (a non-invasive imaging tool) which will assist the Doncaster respiratory team who are planning on setting up a dedicated pleural service to do a ‘one-stop shop’ pleural clinic. There are more than 700 pleural effusion related admissions per year at DRI, many of which are cancer related.

Our main news is that we are changing the way we will operate as from 1 st April. However, due to finalising legal details, it will take a little longer to inform you what is actually happening. Rest assured we will let you know as soon as possible.

In the meantime, should you wish to get in touch with us our contact details are: 22 Wood Street, Doncaster DN1 3LW (passageway to the right of “The Grumpy Goat Coffee House”), first floor (lift available), Room 104. Tel. 01302 325029. Email: info@dcdt.co.uk. Website: dcdt.co.uk.

Area Poppy Collection Appeal

Hello,

Karen Robinson here. I have been the local area organiser for the Poppy Appeal since 2018, taking over from Christine Adamson, who dedicated many years to the role.

Many of you will know me from delivering poppy boxes and collection tins to local businesses, pubs, and schools during the two-week appeal period, and then collecting and counting the donations before sending them off to the appeal. I’m incredibly proud to share that, over the past six years, our community has raised an impressive £27,419 through collection tins alone—this doesn’t even include wreath donations!

Even in 2020, when Covid restrictions significantly impacted fundraising, we still managed to collect £1,969, bringing the grand total to £29,388. Absolutely amazing— thank you all so much for your generosity and support.

I am writing to let you know that I have now stepped down as the Poppy Appeal Organiser with immediate effect and have informed my Poppy Appeal Manager accordingly.

This brings me to an important appeal of my own: Could you be the next local organiser? If you would like to be involved in this vital tradition and ensure it continues in our area, I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to contact me on 07940 202217, and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Collections in Finningley and Blaxton have been running for at least 55 years, and in the wider area for over 40 years—though I don’t have exact dates, I know this longstanding tradition means a great deal to our community. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if it could continue for another 50 years or more?

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I truly hope someone will step forward to keep this important appeal going.

Best wishes,

Boston Park Farm Announces Rare Birth of Quadruplet Lambs

First in 25 Years!

Boston Park Farm is thrilled to announce the rare and extraordinary birth of quadruplet lambs, a remarkable event that has not occurred on the farm in over 25 years. This highly unusual occurrence has captured the attention of both the farming community and animal lovers alike, as quadruplet lamb births are an exceedingly rare phenomenon.

The Suffolk X ewe named Stripe due to her unusual markings, gave birth to four healthy lambs in the early hours of February 27th, 2025. Each lamb is thriving, and both mother and babies are being carefully monitored by the farm's experienced team to ensure their continued health and well-being.

"I went out to check the ewes and could see that Stripe had started in labour. She had been scanned in December and this showed she was pregnant with 3 lambs, so we knew she might need a bit of help. It's soon became obvious that she was struggling to progress so I had to give her a bit of help and managed to deliver 3 healthy lambs. She was then left to bond and when we returned an hour later to check on her we found she had given birth to another lamb! To have quadruplet lambs born on our farm is an extraordinary event, one that we haven't witnessed in over two decades. It’s a rare and joyful moment for us, and we are delighted to share this special news with the community," said David Chappell, owner at Boston Park Farm. "All of the lambs are healthy, and Stripe is doing an excellent job caring for them. We're looking forward to watching these little ones grow."

Quadruplet births in sheep are so rare that they occur in fewer than 1 in 500 births, with the odds doubling if all lambs survive. While twins are more common, and triplets are occasionally seen, quadruplets are an extremely rare occurrence in the farming world. This miracle of nature is a testament to the quality care and dedication of the team at Boston Park Farm, who work tirelessly to ensure the health of all their animals.

Boston Park Farm invites visitors to come and meet the adorable new lambs as they begin to explore the farm in the coming weeks. The farm is open every day from 10am until 4pmwhere you get the opportunity to witness firsthand the joy and wonder of new life on the farm.
