Another successful Show declared, made possible with the help of our sponsors, our main sponsor for 2016, Tarmac, brought a HGV and delivered messages of road safety. Thanks to Dave Mc Cormack site Manager Finningley, for presenting trophies.

Our Main show sponsor

We broke a few records this year despite the not too good weather. The Tombola raised over a thousand pounds the auction of exhibits over £300 and the raffle did well too. Project manager for the raffle, Paula, was very pleased with the efforts of Liam and his team from the local Spar who helped sell tickets. All contributions by you help us pay the bills to keep the event a free day out for our community. What I am really pleased about is the record number of exhibits entered into the Horticultural and Produce competitions, 640 in total. Project Manager Janet said “this is staggering and the judges were so pleased with the quality of entries” I hope we can get this to 700 next year, I believe this should remain the focus of the show to maintain our long standing tradition. Air Cadets of 558 Squadron Finningley did a great job of ensuring the car parking ran smoothly. I have had lots of feedback to say their presence was smart pleasant and efficient. They have already indicated they wish to be involved again next year. Cheryl broke her record of raising money for charity with the ‘Fun Dog Show’. The agility trials were popular and fun for competitors. Cheryl tells me to watch this space as she has an idea to introduce ‘another dimension’ to the fun dog show next year. Cheryl passes on thanks Stephanie from Raw Instinct who judged the show and Suzanne Attenborough who donated additional prizes for the dog show. Our very first ‘Scarecrow Festival’ took off big time with over 70 scarecrows displayed in front gardens. Project Manager Mandy said “The judges had a very difficult time but declared ‘Sponge Bob’ was a worthy winner”. We will certainly repeat this next year, let’s hope we get even more entries. Take some time to look at the photos on our website www.auckleyshow.co.uk you will be astounded at the imagination and effort that was made. We have also published photos of the show by Rod Gunn from Doncaster Camera Club, thanks Rod. Now a recognition of thanks to a few others who work behind the scenes and help out on the day. Our web man Phil updates the web site, the field plan, parking passes, posters, newsletters and more. Darren organises the annual PAT testing of our equipment and Marjorie organises the PAT testing of the building and ensures the grass is cut in a timely manner. Malc is our MC, electrician and auctioneer. Jonathan stores the toilets on his farm and Gary connects them up. There are many others who help out on the day. Georgina, Julie, Chelsea and Caitlyn run the tombola, Shirley dresses the trophy table and Mark, Sally, Andy, Jackie and John help with preparations and tidying. Ant and Daz deliver and set up the stage borrowed from the Scouts. A thank you to all the judges and their helpers and to Liz who helps things run smoothly. Apologies now if I have forgotten to mention others, I can assure you everyone who does their bit to make the show a huge success is greatly appreciated. It looks like we may have to consider increasing the size of the main marquee to cater for the family disco event on the Friday which was very well attended. Trade stands and Craft Stalls provided a wide range of products and services. We built on last year’s layout which again proved popular. Project Manager Dave said ‘We did get a few apologies from traders who couldn’t attend because of the high winds’. Beyond a Joke and Andy the Clown led the fancy dress parade while ‘Bash’ opened the show, followed by local singer Michelle Montouri and the ever popular Mr Magic. Graham sent his apologies this year so I roped Ant in to run the tug o war. "Auckley - New Year One Dads" won and received a gallon of beer, a rosette and trophy. We couldn’t get a Project Manager for Children’s Sports this year so this event didn’t go ahead. We are looking for someone to take the lead on this for 2017, any volunteers? The sun did come out and enjoying this were the Doncaster Astronomical Society and The Armthorpe Elmfield Band who played throughout the afternoon. Local car booters seemed to be busy throughout the day and filled the space available, thanks Di and Malc for the organisation of this popular feature.

The ‘Twilight Session’ saw the bar stay open through to 10.30pm we were entertained by the ever popular Vinny Dean and local talent James Taplin ending with Emily’s Disco. Thanks for all your support, our sponsors The Auckley Parish Council and Michelle at Arrow Publications during the past year. The next Auckley Show date has been set for Saturday 19th August 2017. If you would like to contribute through sponsorship, help out on the day or become a committee member get in touch for further details. We are looking for new ideas to keep the Show the best and biggest free day out in the area. You can now follow us on Twitter, @auckleyshow and why not become a friend on our Facebook page, if you follow us we can keep you up to date with plans for our community, please leave your photos, feedback and suggestions to make the show even better.

AUCKLEY PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2016 Auckley Show Council congratulates the Auckley Show committee for staging another successful event on the 20th August. This provided a varied and interesting programme with activities to suit every age group, whilst the scarecrow competition was a talking point for several weeks before the Show. A large amount of planning and effort goes into presenting a function of this nature, and this is greatly appreciated by the local community. Community Speed Watch Checks Three members of the Parish Council have so far accompanied PCSO Officers operating speed cameras on Main Street, Hayfield Lane and Hurst Lane. Hopefully these checks will help to reduce motoring speeds, particularly on Hurst Lane, as many motorists do not adhere to the reduced 30 mph speed limit now operating outside the Hayfield School. Further operations will take place and, to this end, we wish to thank South Yorkshire Police PCSO's for their help and assistance. Request for Pedestrian Crossing Requests have been made over several years for the provision of a pedestrian crossing on Hurst Lane outside the Hayfield School. Doncaster Council's Highways Officer advises that the Local Authority is currently dealing with the planning application relating to the proposed Sixth Form College to be sited alongside the Hayfield School. This will include the specific assessment of the need for provision of a pedestrian crossing facility in relation to the proposed development, and further action will be considered in the light of the assessment. New Power Cut Number On 6th September Northern Powergrid launched a new national phone number '105' for customers to call should they need to report or obtain information about a power cut in their area. They can also call '105' if they spot damage to electricity power lines and substations that could put anyone in danger. Flower Tubs The flowers in tubs on the grassed area at Main Street are very attractive and have provided a colourful display all through the Summer. Thanks are due to members of the Auckley Gardens and Allotments Association who plant and maintain the flowers. Auckley Pinfold The Auckley pinfold is a small area enclosed on three sides and situated at Main Street, opposite the entrance to Bell Butts Lane. In more rural times it would have been gated, and any stray cow or sheep would be placed in the pinfold until the owner could collect the animal. It has been brought to the attention of Council that a number of wheelie bins are being parked in the pinfold on collection days, and Council respectfully requests that anyone responsible for this practice refrains from using the area which is part of the village's heritage. Christmas Carol Singing Pease come and join the singing accompanied by the Armthorpe Elmfield Band on Tuesday, 13 December at 7.00 p.m. in the Eagle and Child car park.

This lovely boy is Freddie, a 5 year old Tabby cat. Freddie has been handed into the Rescue by his owners as he became very stressed at the arrival of their new baby. Freddie is a lovely, affectionate cat who seems fine with other cats, but would obviously be best in a home with older children. He is just one of our lovely cats, who are all looking for their new homes- all are neutered, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. If you would like to come and meet Freddie or any of our other cats, please call Isle Rescue on 01427 728705.
