Oh October!
How did that happen? I really don’t want to tempt fate but I am sure you will all agree, it has been so nice and reassuring to see all children back at school. Congratulations to all the teaching and support staff who have made this happen, I can’t imagine the challenges that have been met to ensure everyone is safe and continue to be so. As we edge closer to more restrictions to help curb the spread of Covid 19, we must do all we can to keep our schools open. All I can do to help is follow the Government guidelines the best I can, as frustrating as some may be. This month’s Arrow has a little more information on the new rule of 6 which is direct from the Government website, which makes clear what groups are exempt. Some local groups, who are following Government guidelines are meeting up again and some are giving it a bit more time, please make sure you contact your group before making plans to attend as you may find they are still closed. The deadline for the November issue is Wednesday 14th October. The November issue will be distributed the weekend commencing 25th October Keep safe everyone.

Community News Branton Coffee Club Hello to all the members of the Branton Coffee Club. We were really hoping to open the coffee morning this September, however, while the restrictions continue, this Is not possible. We will let you know as soon as we can resume our weekly meetings, in the meantime look after yourselves and stay safe.

Community News Les Francophiles de Tickhill We are delighted to say that we shall be starting our new 2020/21 programme on Wednesday 7th October when Nigel Bemrose will be speaking on ‘Champagne’ (the drink). All members should have received an email. However, in order for us to organise the room to comply with social distancing, it would be useful if you would let Peter Chappell know if you are intending to come. As elsewhere, it is currently mandatory for face coverings to be worn inside halls such as the Parish Room. Visitors, who will be welcome on the night, are asked to ring Peter on 01302 745885 beforehand so that they may be accommodated. Doncaster Rambler’s
Edale Circuit This spectacular walk of just under 9 miles took place on a wonderfully warm, sunny day. Leaving the Edale car park at 10.00 we walked up into the village and then took the lovely path at the base of Broad-Lee Bank Tor to Barber Booth and then to Upper Booth before reaching the foot of Jacob's Ladder. A rest for refreshments preceeded the long, steady climb. We took several opportunities to admire the scenery and to chat to others also making the climb. Turning north we worked our way along to the southern edge of the Kinder Plateau and eastwards along to Ringing Roger, passing the major valleys of Crowden Clough and Grindsbook Clough. We made many stops to rest and admire the stunning views and chat to people going in the opposite direction, including a couple doing the complete 18-mile circuit who didn't know where they were! We had another rest on top of Ringing Roger before the scramble at the start of the descent, followed by the more gentle walk back into Edale. We completed the 9 miles in about six wonderful hours, feeling physically tired but wonderfully refreshed after our first moderate to strenuous walk in 6 months. David Gadd Chair Doncaster Ramblers P.O.I – Edale As well as being the start of the Pennine Way (the official start is the Old Nag's Head, a former smithy dating back to 1577), the village is surrounded by walking country which is excellent in its own right. The village is surrounded by hills: the plateau of Kinder Scout to the north, where the highest point in the parish is found, the Great Ridge (running west to east between Rushup Edge over Mam Tor to Lose Hill) to the south and east, Win Hill to the east (outside the parish), and Dalehead (Brown Knoll, Horsehill Tor and Colborne) to the west. Almost the entire parish is over 200m above sea level; only along the River Noe east from Carr House does the elevation drop below this level. The bed and banks of the River Noe from Barber Booth upstream to approximately the 320-metre (1,050 ft) contour constitute the Edale SSSI cited for geological interest. Doncaster Ramblers and the ‘Covid Rule of Six’ Doncaster Ramblers will continue to offer led walks as usual as these fall outside “Rule of six” government guidelines which state “While social gatherings of more than six people will be banned in England from 14 September, the government’s confirmed that organised sports and activities that have been through return to play protocols can continue, as can organised outdoor sports and physical activity events such as parkrun, which is due to return next month.”

What a fantastic start to the new school year after such a difficult and long time away for some of our children. It has been an absolute pleasure to welcome all our families back and we have been incredibly proud to see the children walk back through those gates, beaming with pride and excitement to get back in to class. It has also been remarkable to see how the children have quickly adapted to the new routines and have been ready to face new challenges as they begin the next chapter. Help shape local animal welfare The local branch of the RSPCA is seeking to recruit volunteer Trustees to help set the strategic direction of the Branch, monitor its progress, ensure appropriate policies are in place and support the management team, staff and volunteers. Doncaster, Rotherham & District branch supports the work of colleagues from the National RSPCA. The branch receives no government funding and as a result relies heavily on the generous donations of the public and local income generation such as fundraising events and charity shops. The Trustee role offers significant influence over the future of local animal welfare. Many people find the Trustee role enhances their skill set, advances their professional development or provides a meaningful outlet in retirement. The minimum commitment is approximately four hours per month. Some experience of managing people and/or a budget is essential, as is a passion for animal welfare, an ability to work within a team and reasonable IT literacy. Trustees must be 18 years or over. Please contact the Branch for more information. COVID19 has meant a 95% drop in income during lockdown. It is vital the branch survives to help animals like Adam. The cat was in a bad state with severe injuries to his tail which required amputation. He is coping well and has definitely earned a few treats for being such a good patient. He has a little way to go in his recovery and is still receiving treatment but will hopefully be looking for his forever home in no time. There are many ways to help the Branch with its mission to re-home and rehabilitate animals including volunteering, leaving a legacy, donating cash or goods, sponsship through the Safe Haven programme and attending events. There are RSPCA charity shops at Bawtry, Maltby, Rossington and Thorne as well as an eBay shop. The Animal Centre re-homes animals in its care and has a pet supplies store on site for all your requirements. The Branch also provides a pet cremation service and a memorial garden for your beloved pets. To donate £5, text ‘RSPCADRB’ to 70085.

Parish Council Meetings Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, no face-to-face meetings have been held since March, but Zoom remote meetings took place in July and August. Our next normal meeting is scheduled to be held at the Auckley Parish Centre in September, and hopefully this trend will continue. Details of meetings are posted on the Parish web site and noticeboards. Hayfield Park Recreation Ground Negotiations are currently taking place, prior to the ownership of the land being passed from Peel to the Parish Council. Once this takes place, the park can then be opened. Poppy Wreath and Donation Council is to give a donation to the Royal British Legion which will provide a poppy wreath to be laid at the Blaxton War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday, with the remainder going to support the valuable work undertaken by the organisation. Provision of Picnic Tables Following requests from residents, the Parish Council is looking into providing some picnic tables/benches to install at Riverside Park.
