Welcome to the November issue of the Branton & Auckley Arrow. Wow, November and we already have a list of Christmas activities planned in this month’s Arrow, more to follow next month I’m sure. If you have anything planned and would like to share it, please e-mail me the details before the deadline stated below. Thank you again to all the primary schools who share school life with us all each month. Its lovely to see our young people enjoying their learning! Depending on when you receive your Arrow this month, you will either be in the middle of the half term break or coming to the end of it, either way, I hope you have had fun and are looking forward to Halloween and Guy Fawkes night, please remember to keep safe!

The deadline for the December issue will be Wednesday 16th November. The Arrow will be delivered the last full weekend in November.

Best wishes Michelle Sidebottom

Scout Group News

We are a very active Scout Group offering children aged 6 to 14 yrs opportunities to meet new friends, share adventures and make the most out of life’s opportunities through the Worldwide Scouting Movement. Email: 4thdoncaster@gmail.com It was an exciting weekend for Beavers who orienteered in the dark with Scouts, camped overnight and visited the Wildlife Park. Cubs and Scouts really enjoyed a joint camp at Walesby. This task needed trust and top teamwork. We are pleased to report that all our raft groups were successful…in the end! “Scouting for the Main Drain” Project The ancient septic tank at the Scout Hut now needs replacing. We have applied to Aviva Community Fund for the £5000 costs to connect the Hut’s waste water into the Main Sewer Network which now reaches our area. Please help your local Scout Hut connect to the to the Main Drain by registering to vote for our project at www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk between 9am Oct 21st to 12 noon Nov 18th. We need as many votes as possible to reach the panel of final judges so please tell all your family, friends and work colleagues to vote too.

I am a resident of Branton and want to bring to your attention the horrible abuse I receive whilst using my Mobility Scooter. Several incidents have happened while I have been riding my scooter on the road. My scooter travels at 8 miles an hour at it's fastest and 4 miles when it is on low speed. It is illegal to travel on a pavement at 8 miles an hour, the maximum speed you can travel on a pavement is 4 miles per hour. If I want to travel at 8 miles an hour I have to use the road. My scooter is fully road taxed and I have full comprehensive insurance. On several occasions drivers have come along side of me or shouted from the opposite side of the road obscenities whilst telling me I should not be on the road and should be on the footpath. As I have explained, I would be liable to prosecution if I were on the footpath. I am 70 years old in a couple of weeks and I find these confrontations frightening and upsetting. I use my Mobility Scooter to help me maintain my independence and wish more motorists understood the law and were a little bit more patient. There have been a few occasions where lorry drivers think it is amusing to stay behind the scooter and press their air horns, while I am aware they are behind me the noise still makes me jump. How would that look on their insurance, elderly lady killed after being startled by lorry driver and strays under the wheels of an overtaking car. So please, all you drivers who find Mobility scooter users a problem, try to be a little more understanding and more patient, It could be your Mum, Dad, Grand parent or even you one day! Branton Resident.

You don’t need a licence to drive a mobility scooter or powered wheelchair, but you may have to register it. Only certain types can be driven on the road. Mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs come in 2 categories:  ‘class 2 invalid carriages’ - these can’t be used on the road (except where there isn’t a pavement) and have a maximum speed of 4mph  ‘class 3 invalid carriages’ - these can be used on the road, and have a maximum speed of 4mph off the road, and 8mph on the road You don’t need to register a class 2 invalid carriage. You must register Class 3 invalid carriages. For more information on Mobility scooters, please visit https://www.gov.uk/mobility-scooters-and-powered-wheelchairs-rules/overview

Auckley School News

This half term we would like to say a massive well done to our aspiring footballers for representing Auckley. On the 21st September 2016, Mr Payne and Mrs Bowling took a team of 10 boys from years 5 and 6 to Rossington All Saints Academy. Here they competed against other Doncaster Schools and worked fantastically as a team. With minimal training the boys did fantastically. Great work team boys! On Thursday 6th October, Mr Payne and Mrs Bowling took a team of 8 girls to Balby Carr to compete in a girls’ football competition. They had only had one training session together but gave it everything they had. The girls drew two matches. A great time was had by all. Well done! With this half term coming to a close, staff and children here at Auckley have been reflecting on what we are thankful for. Harvest festivities have taken place in abundance and children have created fantastic poems and artwork to celebrate this important time. We give thanks for all the kind food donations we have received and we look forward to handing these out within the community. Finally, a big well done to all the children for performing in harvest assemblies. We are extremely proud of all of them.

This gorgeous boy is Ted, a stunning Lurcher who is around 2-3 years old. Ted is a lovely, gentle, laid-back boy who is great around people, and would love a sofa to snooze on. He is ok with most other dogs, but not cats or small furries. He would be best in a home with older children.

Ted is neutered, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. If you are interested in meeting Ted, please give Isle Rescue a call on 01427 728705.
