Welcome to the March issue of The Branton & Auckley Arrow.
This month, the Arrow has a lot of information relating to the community and ways in which you can get involved. I have always been an active supporter of people who give up their time for the benefit of the place where they live and we are incredibly lucky to have such people in and around our villages who do just that. Whether it is the Auckley Show, Finningley Community Group, the running of our parish halls and community centres, litter pick groups, cubs and scouts, coffee mornings, playgroups and many more, they all add great value and help improve our environment, both socially and physically. So if you have some time to spare and would like to get involved, go for it! Most people who volunteer, do so because it makes them feel they are adding value, which is a win win for everyone. The deadline for the April issue is Wednesday 18th March. The April issue will be distributed the weekend beginning Friday 27th March.
Best wishes

Community News Whiphill Top Lane, Branton
As the quarterly Cantley with Branton Parish newsletter explains in this month’s issue, we have our Ward Councillors attending the next Parish Council Meeting at Kilham Hall Meeting Rooms on Wednesday 4th March at 6.30pm. They are attending the meeting to discuss further, the issues relating to the road safety of Whiphill Top Lane, however, I am sure they will be happy to listen to any other concerns you may have which are relevant to our parish. The Parish Council share the concerns of residents concerning the safety of this road. They have requested speed monitoring by the PCSO’s which has been carried out. We raised concerns of the timing of the monitoring and the PCSO’s will try to accommodate a later event next time. They have requested support from residents as they are trying to set up Community Speed Watch schemes across the area. If speeding is a problem near you and you want to help, then please email SYP on the address below and they will get back to you with details. (All villages) doncastercentrallpt@southyorks.pnn.police.uk. In addition to this, the parish council has requested a site visit at Whiphill Top Lane by DMBC Highways which unfortunately has been turned down at this time due to higher priorities across the borough. The parish council followed up this response and asked what traffic calming measures were available and if funds were not available, if the parish council could fund such work. DMBC Highways responded to say that they were moving away from traffic calming measures with the last of its type implemented in 2010 and this was the case countrywide. Instead, favouring 20 mile speed limits, therefore, in this situation it is very unlikely that a traffic calming scheme would be brought forward, even if funding could be identified. Following this response, the parish council asked for quotes to provide electronic signs on Whiphill Top Lane that reflect the speed of the driver. This is being progressed and the parish council hope to be able to implement these signs as soon as practically possible. This information was discussed with residents at the February meeting, who were all concerned about the ongoing safety issues. The parish council suggested the next steps would be to invite our Ward Councillors so they can hear first hand from residents their concerns and hopefully show their support and offer us a new approach to ensuring Whiphill Top Lane is as safe as we can possibly make it. In addition, I will be meeting with our new MP Nick Fletcher prior to this meeting and will also ask what support is available to us.
For all the latest information on the Parish Council, please visit www.cantleywithbrantonparish.co.uk where all agendas and minutes formally approved can be found as well as contact details for residents with feedback or concerns. In addition to the website, the parish council meets at 6.30pm every first Wednesday of the month at Kilham Hall Meeting Rooms where the public are welcome to raise any issues or concerns they may have. A quarterly newsletter is also produced and distributed in the Arrow as well as uploaded on the parish website. Michelle Sidebottom

Community News Community Alcohol Partnership Working together to challenge underage drinking A Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP) has been set up in Auckley, Branton, Blaxton and Finningley to tackle underage drinking and Anti-Social Behaviour. The CAP brings together organisations including the council, the police, schools, alcohol services and local retailers to reduce the crime, anti-social behaviour and harm caused by underage drinking.
Some of the work we are doing includes: • Working alongside local retailers to prevent underage and proxy alcohol sales. Proxy sales are when a person aged 18 or over buys alcohol on behalf of an underage person • Targeting and prosecuting adults who supply alcohol to young people • Providing help, support and information for young people through youth services and local schools • Carrying out police patrols and confiscating alcohol from young people in areas where there have been problems with youth antisocial behaviour • Working with parents and communities to increase awareness about the risks of underage drinking and encouraging them to talk to young people about drinking • Sharing information so all partners can act quickly when problems with alcohol related youth antisocial behaviour arise Some of the partners involved in the CAP are South Yorkshire Police, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, Doncaster Licensing, Youth Services, local councillors, alcohol retailers, schools and the community. The partnership was created in 2019 and is already seeing positive results in terms of responsible retailing, reductions in alcohol litter and anti-social behaviour. A full week of action is being planned for April and will include inputs to school children, community engagement events, visits to retailers, distribution of ‘spikeys’ and many more. If you have any information relating to the supply of alcohol to young people or street drinking, please contact the police on 101 For more information on the harms underage drinking can lead to go to www.drinkaware.co.uk Kindest regards Alan Alan Simpson MCIM PgCertDVI Cert Ed, Community Alcohol Partnerships Advisor, England (East) and Scotland, Community Alcohol Partnerships CIC

Due to an increase in the number of properties etc in the parish the total amount raised will increase to £41k an increase of £1k on the previous year to cover inflation.
The parish council would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter

chairs and walking frames are supplied with them by the NHS, but there is a small proportion who need something a little different to improve their lives. In conjunction with medical professionals and the patients themselves, aids are designed and constructed in REMAP volunteers’ own premises at no cost to the patients. Brian illustrated the talk with many pictures of the aids REMAP had designed and constructed, and had brought along a few of the smaller ones for us to see directly. This talk really made us aware that good as the NHS is, it cannot deal with everything and how good it is the there are people such as those in REMAP ready to step in to help when needed. On March 2 our speaker is Mike Burdis “Catching a Spy”, and then on Monday 17 February John Slater will be giving us his “Reflections on a Prison Service Career”. Any interested men who would like to come to these meetings as a visitor to see what we do, with a view to joining if you like us, please call either George Kirk (07808191211) or Geoff Firth (01302 849734) for more information or come to a meeting and introduce yourself to the President or Secretary at the front table. At the end of the AGM the Retiring President, George Kirk, handed over the “Chain of Office” to the incoming President John Brown, and then George was given a Past President’s Tie and a Badge. The new President thanked the members for entrusting him with the Office, and and thanked the former President and Officers for the work in the preceding year to ensure the survival of the Club. He then said that during the forthcoming year he would like the Club to support the Doncaster charity Firefly, and to start this off there will be a retiring collection at the end of each meeting. The first meeting in February (3rd) featured a presentation by Brian Downs about the Doncaster REMAP Panel. REMAP is a voluntary organisation which supplies bespoke aids for people with disabilities. Community News I’m from Austria and I know I need to apply for Settled Status as the UK leaves the European Union. But I’m really confused about what documents I need in order to apply for me and my children. We’ve lived in England for six years and I’m worried that if we don’t apply before the end of the month, we might have to leave. You don’t need to apply by the end of the month your rights won’t change until 31 December 2020. However, you should apply as soon as you can in case of any delays. After the transition period ends on 31 December you might be asked to prove your right to do things like get a job or use a service like the NHS. Having your status sorted will make this more straightforward. To get settled status, you need evidence that you’ve lived in the UK for 6 months out of every 12 months for 5 years in a row. As you say you and your children have lived in the UK for six years, you should be eligible for this. In order to apply, you’ll need to have a few things. These include a passport or national ID card, a digital photo, your National Insurance number or proof of how long you've lived in the UK, a mobile number and an email address. If you’ve been working, you can find your National Insurance number on your pay slip. If not you can contact HM Revenue and Customs National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 to help find it. It may be easier to make your children’s application after you’ve made your own. This way you’ll be able to ‘link’ your child’s application to yours, using the application number you got when you applied for yourself. You can do this at any time after you’ve applied - you do not need to wait for a decision. And if your own application is successful, your child will get the same status as you. In order to apply on behalf of your children, you will need to have proof of your relationship - for example a birth certificate.

News From Branton St Wilfrid’s Primary School
Back in January, we attended an amazing event as our choir became part of a huge performance of nearly 5,000 children as they sang at Sheffield Arena on Friday 10th January. They were joined by the famous Tony Hadley, The Shires and the winner of the Voice in 2018, Ruti, as well as the usual Urban Strides who encouraged the children to join in with their very talented dance moves. Even after 8 hours at the arena, and a very late night, the children were still singing and buzzing as their parents collected them from the coach. As always, their behavior and determination to make the event as successful as possible, was impeccable and they were an absolute credit to the school. It is an experience that the children will be remember for the rest of their lives and I am sure they will be eager to participate again next year. Again, a huge thank you to Mrs Green who has been rehearsing with Key stage 2 choir since September.
A huge thank you to all who supported and contributed towards the reverse advent donations . As a school we generously donated 114 kilos of food to The Trussell Trust which would then allow 247 meals to be made for those in need.

Doncaster Rambler’s Gringley Beacon Roll For once there was the prospect of no mud, as 18 loyal Ramblers, including two welcome returners, gathered on the frost covered grass on Beacon Hill. Other than the mild chill it could have been the beginning of spring, blue sky, bright sun, only the Robin gave away we were still in Winter. From Beacon Hill Rob led us in single file west through the village passed the remains of the village cross, then southwest first across the busy A631, then via arable fields and green lanes to St Peter’s church in Clayworth, with its Traquair murals, which everyone admired during the coffee break. The return leg took us initially east on field tracks then north on the Trent Valley Way (including a short lap along Lovers Lane), bringing us safely back in under three hours. So a lovely morning ramble, ideal for those new to walking, retuning after a longer break, or anyone just wanting company and fresh air once a week.
