Welcome to the July issue of The Branton & Auckley Arrow.
Well hello July! Feels like we have already had a few months of Summer with this Mediterranean weather. Many of you will be off on a Summer holiday soon looking like you have already been! Let’s hope this continues and the rain only comes at night! There are many events planned towards the end of June and throughout July that would greatly benefit from this glorious weather. St Wilfrid’s Church Summer fair is Saturday 30th June and Kilham Hall celebrates the official opening of the new play and fitness equipment as well as Sianne’s Butterfly Trail on Saturday 7th July (please note the car park will not be in use for this event). The Auckley Parish Neighbourhood Plan Group would like to share the results from their recent survey, more information can be found on p5. The deadline for the August issue of the Branton and Auckley Arrow is 11th July. The August issue will be delivered by 31st July. Best Wishes Michelle Sidebottom Tel: 01302 534256 / 07795 387937 email: michelle@arrowpublications.co.uk

CRIME PREVENTION NEWS: Driver Advice to Combat Car 'Key' Jammers Please check your doors are locked before leaving your vehicle as there has been a recent spate of thefts from cars with the use of electronic car key jammers. Thieves have been using hand-held devices that block signals sent by drivers to lock their vehicles, before entering their unattended, unlocked car and stealing valuables. There has been a recent spike in thefts from vehicles which show no signs of entry, where the driver clearly recalls locking their doors and are confident they can be attributed to thieves blocking their signals remotely. Drivers are pressing their key fob and walking away from their vehicle thinking they’ve locked it, but they are having their frequency blocked by thieves. The only sure way to know your car is locked is to check it manually. If your indicator lights flash, wing mirrors fold in, or the horn beeps when you lock it, this is a sure sign your vehicle has locked, but the failsafe method is to check your door handle manually before you walk away. Basic jamming devices can have a range of 75 metres and affect a whole car park at the time of activation. We are eager to bring this issue and the associated crime prevention advice to the attention of motorists, to enable you to protect your property. The issue of key jamming affects forces nationally and has previously been highlighted by the National Police Chiefs’ Council.

DONCASTER CHORAL SOCIETY www.doncasterchoralsociety.org.uk Registered Charity No 505263 presents another season of Concerts of Popular Organ Concerts in the series
Toccata Tuesdays Five this year! at 7.30 pm on 31 July, 7, 14, 21 and 28 August 2018 Ann is 69 and lives alone in Doncaster. Ann has always been a very sociable person and thrives when she is surrounded by people. When we met Ann in January she was bereaved, depressed and would go days without seeing anyone. Research carried out by Age UK in 2016 highlights that half a million older people go at least five or six days a week, without seeing or speaking to anyone at all. Circles are putting a stop to this by supporting people to get out more and make new connections.

Each Circle has a clear purpose that connects a person to something they are passionate about. Ann’s purpose was to ‘Join a group and meet new people’. Ann was matched with our volunteer Joan who introduced her to a social group at Bentley Library, which she now attends every week. ‘I feel miles better now; I have Joan, my volunteer and I have something to look forward to every week!’ Ann is now volunteering herself on the project and supporting other people to make new connections in their community. You don’t need to have specific education or skills to volunteer. Just 2 hours a week can make a huge difference to someone’s life. Contact the Circles team to find out how you can get involved.
