What a month, can you believe half the year is over? I can hear you say thank goodness for that! Normality has not yet returned but I am thankful for the few changes such as meeting up with others, businesses getting back to work and outdoor training sessions for all ages starting up again. We are currently awaiting information on further relaxing of restrictions following the news we have moved from level 4 to 3 so hopefully our cafes, bars and restaurants will receive some welcome news and hair and beauty salons can open again. They have been hit incredibly hard and I wish them all the very best of luck in rebuilding their businesses. I am hopeful usual community events can start up again soon so if you want to share any information in the August issue, please let me know. The deadline for the August issue is Wednesday 15th July. The August issue will be distributed the weekend beginning 24th July. Keep safe everyone.

DANUM PROBUS CLUB danum probus.co.uk Danum Probus Club is an organisation for men who have retired or are semi-retired from their profession, business or other employment who want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. Because of the Covid19 lockdown we are not able to meet at present. In normal times Danum Probus Club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at Town Moor Golf Club, Bawtry Road, Belle Vue, Doncaster starting at 10 am. At this meeting we have a speaker whose subjects cover a wide variety of interests, the programme can be found on our website, www.danumprobus.co.uk. Ladies and guests are invited to the Club’s Spring and Autumn Lunches and also to the annual holiday which is usually in early June or thereabouts. Members also have their own lunches in mid summer and December. In the summer months the Crown Green Bowling Section play on the Armthorpe Community Centre greens. Because of the lockdown we have no plans to have Monday meetings at the golf club before September, and any restart will depend on the prevailing government advice. We will not be running any if our internal crown green bowling competitions this season because we will not have time to finish them. We are hoping to get on the greens at Armthorpe later in the year for social bowling. When we restart, we invite any men who would like to come to these meetings as a visitor to see what we do, with a view to joining if you like us, to call either George Kirk (07808191211) or Geoff Firth (01302 849734) for more information or come to a meeting and introduce yourself to the President or Secretary at the front table. Information on when we will restart will be published in this magazine and also on the website (danumprobus.co.uk).

Community News Community Champions

As we all do the best we can for our neighbours, friends and family with shopping chores, quizzes, chats, socially distanced walks, we see a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel as life starts to return to what feels like a little bit of normality. Once again, we see wonderful acts of kindness and our thanks go to our local grass cutters! Andy Shearman of Blaxton got his mower out and tidied up Finningley/Blaxton verges and in the process, raised a fabulous £361.30 for the brilliant Spirit of Finningley Group run by another pair of champions, Bridget Clark and Susan Anderson. Well done Andy. Meanwhile in Auckley, a team of residents armed with their mowers and strimmers, got to work on the Green. Thank you to Ian Butterfield who organised the grass cutting and to Darren Edgar Barrows, Mark Foster and Andrew Sherburn who answered Ian’s call for help. Their treat was refreshments from the Auckley Friary—excellent example of community spirit, well done everyone.

Anti Social Behaviour and Village Parks

Since lockdown restrictions were reduced, there have been a few incidents at Kilham Hall Park where glass has been smashed and left on the path and the park area. In one week alone, there were three separate such incidents which meant local residents, park users and members of the Parish Council had to clean up to make it safe for others to use. The village parks are there for everyone in our community. It is lovely to see them used and everyone should be welcome . However, anti social behaviour which impacts on locals lives and the safety of others will not be tolerated, I hope everyone continues to enjoy the parks and keep them safe, this way, we can all benefit from our lovely open spaces. Kilham Hall and its grounds are protected by 24 hour CCTV and closes at dusk. Please use the bins provided or take your litter home with you. Thanks.

VJ Day & 35th Anniversary of the Auckley Show Saturday 15th August 2020 The committee would like to invite you to celebrate Auckley Show with your family friends and neighbours in your garden on Saturday 15th August. This would have been our 35th Year on the current site. The date coincidentally is also VJ Day, perhaps another reason to celebrate. Get out that bunting again to promote the community spirit we have here in Auckley and surrounding villages. Auckley Show 200 plus club update. S.O.S. Support Our Show We are continuing with our monthly draw, a way in which everyone has an opportunity to support the show. The current situation restricts the way in which we can call and collect payments that are due for renewal. The last couple of months we have been sending our supporters a letter with suggestions on how best to renew.

It's really sad news we had to cancel 2020. However, plans are well underway for next year which will be Saturday 21st August 2021. With your support we’ll make it the best ever annual community event. Winner of the June draw number 341 Alan Muddiman wins £100. Please note you don’t have to live in Auckley to help support our show. Neil Woodward Chairman, Auckley

Also fit Alarms

We thank you for your continued support. Any new members can apply on line through our website. www.auckley.show.co.uk or give me a call to arrange 01302 770818. We are keeping our discounted price at £10 for twelve months with a chance of winning £100 each month.

FINNINGLEY WI

Hello to members and friends of Finningley WI, we hope everyone is well. While restrictions continue we aren’t able to meet but we will let you know as soon as we can resume our monthly programme. In the midst of the COVID19 pandemic, there are still animals in need, desperate for our help. Percy is one of those animals. He was found abandoned in a cardboard box and was riddled with mites when he came to our centre for much needed treatment and TLC. After a few weeks with our team, Percy began to look and feel a whole lot better, despite losing much of his fur. Percy’s luck changed when Julia and Mike took a shine to him and welcomed him into their home. After being amazed at how quickly he settled and began to trust humans again, he is now spending his days lounging round with his new mate Blair and making up for lost time. Life at the centre has been as fast paced as ever, with many animals like Percy needing urgent medical care. Funding is still extremely low due to the temporary closure of our shops and cancellation of our events. To help ensure we are still here next year to continue caring for the animals in our area, please share our social media posts, donate or even do some fundraising on our behalf. At the Animal Centre, we rehome the animals in our care and look after over 80 animals at any time. We have a pet supplies store on site for all your requirements and also provide a pet cremation service and a memorial garden for your beloved pets. To donate £5, text ‘RSPCADRB’ to 70085.

Criminals are exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic to try and get their hands on your money and personal information. To date, Action Fraud has received reports from 2,378 victims of Coronavirus-related scams, with the total losses reaching over £7 million. How you can protect yourself from Coronavirus-related scams: There are some simple steps you can take that will protect you from the most common Coronavirusrelated scams. Here’s what need to do: 1 - Watch out for scam messages Your bank, or other official organisations, won’t ask you to share personal information over email or text. If you receive an email you’re not quite sure about, forward it to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS): report@phishing.gov.uk 2 - Shopping online If you're making a purchase from a company or person you don't know and trust, carry out some research first, for example, by checking to see if others have used the site and what their experience was. If you decide to go ahead with the purchase, use a credit card if you have one, other payment providers may not provide the same protection. 3 - Unsolicited calls and browser pop-ups offering tech support Never install any software, or grant remote access to your computer, as a result of a cold call. Remember, legitimate organisations would never contact you out of the blue to ask for financial details such as your PIN or full banking password. NHS Test and Trace scams: The NHS Test and Trace service plays an important role in the fight against coronavirus and it’s vital the public have confidence and trust in the

service. However, we understand the concerns people have about the opportunity for criminals to commit scams. What you need to know: Contact tracers will only call you from the number 0300 013 5000. Anyone who does not wish to talk over the phone can request the NHS Test and Trace service to send an email or text instead, inviting them to log into the web-based service. All text or emails sent by NHS Test and Trace will ask people to sign into the contact tracing website and will provide you with a unique reference number. We would advise people to type the web address https://contact-tracing.phe.gov.uk directly into their browser, followed by the unique reference number given to you, rather than clicking on any link provided in the message. The NHS Test and Trace service will never:

ask you to dial a premium rate number to speak to them (for example, those starting 09 or 087) ask you to make any form of payment or purchase a product or any kind ask for any details about your bank account ask for your social media identities or login details,

or those of your contacts

ask you for any passwords or PINs, or ask you to set up any passwords or PINs over the phone ask you to download any software to your PC or ask you to hand over control of your PC, smartphone or tablet to anyone else ask you to access any website that does not belong to the government or NHS If you think you have been a victim of fraud, please report it to Action Fraud at https://www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.
