elcome to the February issue of the Branton & Auckley Arrow. Well I do hope your January got off to a more motivated start then mine did! It’s the 18th January as I write this and I have just about got my mojo back! The weather doesn’t help but after the warmest year on record, we are becoming a little spoilt I think. Looking ahead, if you have any spare time to offer and like the idea of cleaning up our villages, DMBC are taking part in the ‘Great British Spring Clean’ on 3rd—5th March. If you would like to organise a group or find out more about this, please check the website www.keepbritaintidy.org or email Steve Racjan at stephen.racjan@doncaster.gov.uk before 10th February to register your interest. I’m sorry to complain, but, the footpaths around Branton and Auckley (I have heard the same in Finningley) have been a disgrace with dog mess all over them. There really is no excuse, if you have a dog and don’t clean up after it, you will be fined if caught. Think about the people, old and young, who have to try to avoid it and the inconvenience and mess it causes once trodden in. It is not a difficult task and litter bins are well positioned to make sure you are not carrying it for long. Please, help to look after our villages and your neighbours and clean up after your dog. The deadline for the March issue will be Wednesday 15th February. The Arrow will be delivered the last full weekend in February.

Community News Kilham Hall Pie and Peas... The Coffee Club held their Christmas Party on the 20th December, over 60 members enjoyed a lunch of Pie and Peas followed by Plum Loaf and Cheese. Entertainment was supplied by Alan and Barry. We had a mix of folk songs and songs from the shows followed by our usual quiz, bingo, plus a really good raffle. At the close of the afternoon Members were given a gift of a pen. Kilham Hall Management Committee would like to thank all the users of the Hall and we wish everyone a very Happy New Year.

Community News Airport makes lifesaving donation A Doncaster group at the heart of its community has received a vital donation from Doncaster Sheffield Airport which could help save lives. Finningley Village Community Group, which organises events and community initiatives, was presented with a cheque for £600 from the airport’s community investment fund which will be used to buy an essential weatherproof cabinet for a public access defibrillator. Will Bedford, a member of Finningley Village Community Group, said: “CPR training has been delivered to 75 residents in and around Finningley but there is currently no public access defibrillator in the village with the nearest being approximately six miles away. In addition, if the railway crossing is closed for a train there is no access for emergency vehicles so having access to a defibrillator will be of enormous benefit to our community. “We have successfully applied to the British Heart Foundation to take part in its ‘Nation of Lifesavers community package’ scheme which provides us with a defibrillator if we make a contribution of £400. We plan to raise this money ourselves but in order to house this pad, so it is easily accessible but also protected from the elements, we have to make sure we have a suitable cabinet available and that is why we applied to the airport’s community fund.

Community News DANUM PROBUS CLUB Danum Probus Club is an organisation for men who have retired from their profession, business or other employment who want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. Danum Probus Club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at Town Moor Golf Club, Bawtry Road, Belle Vue, Doncaster starting at 10 am. The Club held its Annual General Meeting on Monday 16 January. Reports were received from the President, Secretary and Treasurer who noted the events and successes of the previous year. Officers and Committee members for 2017 will be: President - John Gregory, Vice President - David Alan, Secretary, Secretary - Nev Westhead, Treasure - Stephen Baker, Past President - Geoff Firth, Committee Members - Arthur Kendrick, Des Parks and Graham Fletcher. Others coopted onto the Committee are Ian Sampson (Almoner), Ray Bartlett (Theatre Visits), Chris Harris (Holidays and Outings), Mike Maher and Mick Peduzie (Lunches), Alan Whitehall and Keith Colgate (Speaker Finders), Peter Oldale (Bowls) and Derek Millward (Golf). The meetings in February will be on the first and third Mondays, 6 and 20, at Town Moor Golf Club starting at 10am. 40th ANNIVERSARY CONCERT
Over 1,500 animals rescued The local RSPCA animal centre rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed 275 dogs, 442 cats, 405 rabbits, birds and small animals and 504 wildlife during the last year. This was achieved without Government cash or lottery funding – it was made possible by generous local supporters. Every day, the local RSPCA team based at South Yorkshire Animal Centre, Bawtry, are faced with cruelty and neglect. In the first few days of 2017 a little puppy was abandoned in an alleyway and left to die. He has been named Jack Frost and will need expensive treatments before he is ready for rehoming. Meanwhile, Ralph was the only surviving kitten dumped in a drain – his brothers and sisters sadly died before the RSPCA reached them. Ralph is now with one of the Centre’s foster carers. If you would like to support the RSPCA team, have a clear out and donate unwanted clothes, toys, bedding, curtains, books and bric a brac (phone 01302 719790 for a collection); or why not volunteer some of your time, there are loads of opportunities; or simply donate – text SYAC14 £10 to 70070 or donate online at www.rspcadrb.org.uk You can also keep up to date with the Animal Centre and all the news about the rescue animals, including Jack Frost and Ralph, at www.facebook.com/rscpadrb. Community News Cyber Crime and how to avoid it... Cyber-crime is one of the fastest growing crimes both nationally md internationally. It affects major companies, small businesses and individuals. Major crimes involving large companies may often become a victim of cyber-crime but keep quiet about the crime as customers could lose confidence in the company if details were publicised. Branton St Wilfrid’s at Young Voices
The World’s Largest School Choir
2017 Young Voices concert at Sheffield Arena on Friday 13th January saw 5011 children from South Yorkshire Primary Schools raise the roof. Natalie Williams, The Beatbox Collective and Tabby Callaghan delighted the audience and choir with their spectacular performances. The School choir sang beautifully and the children had the time of their lives! At Young Voices it was a lifetime opportunity to sing as part of 5,000 children and we had so much fun. During the afternoon, the conductor (David Lawrence) worked us really hard as we practised for the final performance, but it was worth it. As the lights went down for the evening performance, it was amazing as everyone got really excited and prepared themselves to show the audience what we had been working so hard for since September. AUCKLEY PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY/MARCH 2017 Parish Precept The Parish Precept is the amount of money that Doncaster Council is asked to collect on our behalf, and all monies are spent on matters supporting the residents of Auckley Parish. To allow for inflation and various projects in the pipeline, the precept has been increased by 2.62% to £36,684 for the 2017/2018 financial year. Provision of Defibrillator A defibrillator has been installed on an outside wall at the entrance to the Auckley Junior and Infant School, thereby making it accessible to both the school and the wider community. The defibrillator has been funded by the school, with the Parish Council contributing the sum of £450 towards the cost of this vital equipment. Request for Pedestrian Crossing Council continues to campaign for the provision of a pedestrian crossing at Hurst Lane, outside the Hayfield School, in the interests of children's safety. A site meeting was recently held with a DMBC's Highways Officer to monitor children crossing the road after leaving school, and the increased amount of lorries and other vehicles now using the road. A response from the Local Authority is awaited on whether this project can be progressed. Meanwhile various funding schemes are being considered for a crossing which will cost in excess of £30,000. Enquiries Regarding Additional Surgery Council continues to liaise with the Health Authority regarding provision of an additional G. P. Surgery in the Parish, in view of the high number of recently built properties and those currently under construction. Application for Pharmacy Council supports the application for a pharmacy to be based in the Hayfield Lane area of Auckley. Dog Fouling Thank you to the majority of dog owners who always clean up after their pets. Sadly not all are as socially aware, and allow their dogs to foul pavements. There is currently a problem at School Lane and Hurst Lane where children regularly walk to and from school. The Enforcement Officers employed by DMBC have been asked to patrol the local area, and any offenders will be fined.

4thDoncaster (Finningley) Scout Group News Contact us: 4thdoncaster@gmail.com Christmas Home Camp After the last scout meeting of 2016, sixteen Scouts and four leaders prepared to spend the weekend having some Christmas fun at the hut. Christmas trees decorated, games played, potatoes and carrots peeled, supper eaten then into our sleeping bags to ‘sleep’... a term used loosely on the first night of any camp. An early morning start on Saturday was initiated by one of the Scouts. Everybody up, ready and off to Bawtry Paintball Fields. After an enjoyable 2½ hrs we walked the 3¾ miles back with the thought of Christmas dinner on everyone’s mind…and we weren’t disappointed! A full Christmas dinner of turkey and all the trimmings with Christmas crackers awaited thanks to Mole (Josie) and Baloo (Bob). An evening of games; a festive buffet with chocolate fountain; more games then low and behold the scouts ran out of steam!

A Sunday morning lie in with a rude awakening for the Scouts: two pan lids being used as cymbals by wide awake leaders! A big Christmas Camp breakfast for all before clearing up then Happy Christmas Campers left for Christmas at home.

This lovely boy is Zeus, a 2 year old Whippet Cross. Zeus is such a friendly, affectionate, loving boy who adores people, and is so well behaved at the rescue – and good on the lead. He is great with other dogs, so could happily share his home. Sadly he doesn’t get on with cats. Zeus is neutered, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. Unfortunately because of his colour, Zeus is often overlooked in favour of other dogs, and he really deserves a lovely home. If you would like to come and meet this smashing boy, please give Isle Rescue a call on 01427 728705
