Welcome to the
December issue of The Branton & Auckley Arrow. You will find this month’s Arrow bursting with dates for your diary to keep you topped to the brim with festive cheer! We have Christmas fayres, markets, menus, Father Christmas visits, Church services, craft events and days out for you and all the family. Kilham Hall celebrated its 8th anniversary at the weekly coffee morning in November. The Committee have worked hard to make the Hall a success but are looking for some new members to join them. If you are interested, please contact me, my details are below. It was great to see the New Pavilion at Finningley playing fields open officially in October. I am sure it will be put to great use and will become a great asset to the village. I would just like to say a special thank you and Merry Christmas to all the Arrow advertisers who continue to support the Arrow and to all the people in our community who work so hard to bring people together. We are blessed to live within such a wonderful, caring community.

Community News New Pavilion Opens in Finningley On Sunday 22nd October Blaxton & Finningley Parish Councils held the official opening ceremony for the new Pavilion which was opened by Patricia Schofield and Roy Hattersley. This project has been planned for several years and its fantastic to have this beautiful sports venue on the Blaxton & Finningley joint playing field, which is suitable for a wide range of users. A large number of volunteers have pulled together over the years to help in lots of ways such as raising funds, working with the local authorities and many others to help to get the project to completion. The pavilion is a real asset to the community and it is hoped that it will be used for many years to come.

Community News
Kilham Hall coffee morning celebrated its 8th anniversary on Tuesday 7th November with tea, coffee and chocolate gateau. The Coffee Club has gone from strength to strength since it started back in 2009. They now have over 60 members and every Tuesday morning, Kilham Hall is a buzz of life and activity where friends old and new meet over coffee and cake and are entertained with bingo, a weekly quiz and the occasional guest speaker. The members of the Kilham Hall Management Committee work hard every week in term time to keep this vibrant club going. Well done to Noreen Pearson, Barbara Fussey, Jan Goodband, Jean Cheatham, Glynis Davies, Lisa Simpson and Sheila Smith. Unfortunately, Sheila missed the celebrations and I am sure you will all wish her well and a speedy recovery from her recent operation. The next event at the coffee morning will be their annual Carol Concert on the 12th December. Mince pies will be served and Reg Littlewood will play the organ. If you are not a member of the coffee club please come and join us starting time is 10.00am The coffee club will also hold their Christmas Party on the 19th December at 10.15am. A lunch of Pie and Peas will be served followed by Cheese and Plum Bread.
Kilham Hall Management Committee are looking for new members to join the committee. They hold approximately 6 meetings a year on a Monday evening at 6.30pm and discuss and maintain the running of the hall. Community News Defibrillator installed at grounds of Kilham Hall. Cantley with Branton Parish Council and Kilham Hall Management Committee have jointly purchased an external defibrillator which has been fitted to the outside entrance of Kilham Hall as seen in the photograph to the right. It is hoped that it is never needed, but it is comforting to know residents and anyone using the facilities at Kilham Hall can gain access to it in an emergency.

December Newsletter Christmas Carol Singing This will take place on Wednesday 13 December 2017 at 6.30 p.m. at Kilham Hall, Kilham Lane, Branton DN3 3PF with musical accompaniment from a local organist and Branton St Wilfrid’s School choir. Father Andrew will also be in attendance. Festive refreshments provided by the local WI and soft drinks for children will be available at a small charge. There will also be a raffle with any money raised going to the Harry Mathews Bowel Transplant Trust. As in previous years arrangements have been made for festive lighting to be displayed on the Christmas tree on the corner of Glen Road and Doncaster Road. New Outdoor Equipment and Perimeter Path at Kilham Lane Recreation Ground The contractors appointed by DMBC are nearing completion of the new outdoor equipment and perimeter path. The field area has also be re-seeded to provide for an improved surface for the playing of informal games in 2018. It is hoped that both adults and children will make use of and enjoy these new facilities. Provision of a Defibrillator at Kilham Lane Recreation Ground The parish council and Kilham Hall have jointly funded the cost of a defibrillator which is available for use at all times. Access is obtained by ringing the emergency services who will issue a code for the keypad lock. New Fencing to Grass Verges at Valley Drive and Rural Crescent New fencing to the grass verges opposite the school on Valley Drive and at the junction of Valley Drive with Rural Crescent has been purchased by the parish council to deter parking in these area in order to improve safety for children when travelling to and from school. Provision of a Wreath and Donation to the Royal British Legion A poppy wreath has again been purchased by the parish council for the local school use and made a donation to the Royal British Legion to mark remembrance day. Walk to School Initiative The ‘Walk to School’ challenge organised by Branton St Wilfrid’s School with support from the parish council and the school PTA has now commenced and has led to much reduced parking around the school at the beginning and end of the school day making the area much safer for everyone. Each class records how each child travels to and from school (walking, cycling, scooter or park and stride), the class with the most positive journeys will be awarded £100 each half-term towards an item of outdoor play equipment for the school playground and pupils will receive monthly badges. Special thanks are extended to the Three Horse Shoes, Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Branton Farm Nurseries who have allowed parents to park a short walk away from the school in order to relieve the congestion. New Public Space Protection Order DMBC has introduced an order to place restrictions on the control of dogs on public land. Notices have been placed to identify where dogs must be on leads or where they are not permitted for example no dogs are allowed on Kilham Lane recreation ground as this is an enclosed area for recreation purposes. Fixed penalty fines will continue to be issued to any dog owner who allows a dog to foul the highway and does not dispose of it appropriately.

AUCKLEY PARISH COUNCIL December 2017 Newsletter Neighbourhood Plan In recent times Auckley Parish has undergone many changes and developments which are continuing at a rapid rate. In response, the Parish Council, together with a steering group of resident representatives and after consultation with all our Parish community, are to formulate a Neighbourhood Plan. When adopted the plan would be in statute, a legal document that Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council would refer to before making decisions that affect Auckley Parish. The Neighbourhood Plan is our/your chance to preserve and develop the future of this community. Over the coming weeks all residents will have opportunities to voice their concerns and aspirations for Auckley Parish and decide what our plan should contain. PLEASE take the opportunities. Doncaster Sheffield Airport launches airspace consultation A public consultation on proposed changes to the airspace around Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) has been launched which will outline potential minor changes to the routes that aircraft depart and arrive into the airport. DSA is participating in a UK-wide initiative to modernise airspace known as the Future Airspace Strategy (FAS) backed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which will involve moving away from the traditional ground-based navigation and over to a new satellite navigation system known as Area Navigation (RNAV). The government’s objectives to modernise UK airspace policy are a welcome step which could bring wider benefits across the UK such as noise reduction, less CO2 and other emissions, plus fuel and time savings. The airport has taken the opportunity to utilise this new technology to develop and consult on improved departure and arrival routes from the site, investing over £250,000 in the design process. The new technology will allow aircraft to operate with greater accuracy within their designated flight paths when departing and arriving from DSA. The routes have been designed to be very close to the current routes but improved, where possible, to reduce disruption to communities surrounding the airport. This process will allow us to ensure that we are using our airspace in the most efficient way, whilst also reducing disruption to local communities. We have made considerable efforts to design these proposed routes to the benefit of local communities and to ensure safety. We have worked closely with local stakeholders to develop these proposals, including our Airport Consultative Committee made up of elected representatives, local public agencies, local business, residential communities and airport users. We would encourage all interested parties to participate in the consultation process. The consultation will run until 15th December 2017.
