Dear friends at Arrow. Just a line to say many thanks for putting a piece in your May circulation about our annual concert on 1st June 2019 at Hall Cross Lower Academy School where we were joined by the Doncaster Youth Swing Orchestra under the baton of John Ellis along with BBC look North presenter Phil Bodmer. The concert was well attended with just under 200 in the audience. As a result the profit from the evening was split 50/50 between the orchestra and choir and each organisation will donate 15% from their profit to 2 local charities DonMentia and Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust. A presentation evening will be held on Monday July 8th at Doncaster Police Club 39 . This message is sent as feedback to your readers around the region. Thank you. By the time you read this the holiday season will be in full swing – let’s hope for good weather for everyone. We are thrilled to say the Midsummer Walk has so far raised £6,406. There is still some outstanding sponsorship money which we hope will eventually bring the total to nearer £7,000. Thank you so much to everyone who took part, their sponsors, Thorne Rural Lions who worked extremely hard and Vizuality who designed and printed all the paperwork. There is a coffee morning at the Church Hall, Hatfield Woodhouse on Saturday, 3rd August from 10-12 noon where there will be raffle prizes to be won. Proceeds will be donated to DCDT. We will have a stall at Auckley Show on Saturday, 17th August selling scarves, £2 mystery parcels and other goodies. The Show opens at 12 noon with free admission and free parking. Check out their website: auckleyshow.co.uk. There is lots to do and see for all the family including free competitions. Have you seen the displays for the “Happiness Movement” in Frenchgate Centre? They are designed to get people involved in various projects. There is a garden seating area outside Boots on the ground floor and two i-pads in the Centre where the public can send messages as well as make a donation to DCDT. Also we have fundraising packs available with lots of ideas to raise money for us! If you would like a pack to organise an event on our behalf please get in touch with us. We are at 22 Wood Street, Doncaster DN1 3LW (entrance by the side of Kerry Gough Florists), second floor (lift available), Room 209. Tel. 01302 325029. Email: info@dcdt.co.uk. Website: dcdt.co.uk. Our Prostate Cancer appeal for the biopsy machine is slowly gathering strength and you can follow our progress with the “thermometer” on our website. All donations are gratefully received whether they are pennies or pounds. Just think – if 1,000 people donated £150 we would reach our £150,000 goal ! Food for thought…..?

Handlebards Are Here for a Third Run The boys are back in town, or will be in August, for their second appearance at Epworth Old Rectory. Last year it was the turn of the young ladies to perform for our delight, and the performance was just that, delightful. Full of fun and laughter despite being essentially a tragedy. This year's show is "Much Ado about Nothing" which should please the ear, and definitely tickle the funny bone. By the time you are reading this we will have had Chapterhouse Theatre Company from Lincoln performing Pride and Prejudice in the gardens with the audience having enjoyed both their picnic and the performance. There will also have been a visit by the delegates of the Methodist Heritage Conference; and the dedication of a new wall hanging created by a number of local ladies celebrating the 350th anniversary of the birth of Susanna Wesley; and a living history day with some of the Old Rectory volunteers dressing in costume and carrying out daily tasks that would have been normal daily life for the Wesleys and their family and servants., while visitors on the day will have been regaled with music that the Wesleys would have been familiar with. We are getting towards the end of a packed season but we're not done yet! Join us for "Much Ado about Nothing" with your picnic and chairs, but do remember to dress sensibly for the weather - after all the performance doesn't begin until 7pm and it may turn a little chilly later even if it is only August. Apple Pressing Day this year will be at Wesley Memorial Church but there will be Heritage Open Day at the Rectory for which we are already taking bookings - taster tours every half hour from 2pm to 4-30pm and of course the year finishes off with our Christmas Craft Fair, a very popular event. Keep an eye out for future adverts in this publication for details of all upcoming events, or see our facebook page - Epworth Old Rectory or our new website which should soon be up and running. You can always contact the office Monday to Friday on 01427 872268, or even call in for details and bookings for stalls at the Craft Fair of information on any of the events, or even better - call in and see us about joining the ranks of the volunteers -we need sales and reception volunteers, and guides, and full training and support for both roles is provided - just one half day per week is all the time that's needed - can you spare it? Summer bargains The local RSPCA Charity Shops are launching their super summer bargains with all four outlets taking advantage of a bumper season of quality donations. The shops at The Courtyard, Bawtry; High Street, Maltby; Field Road, Thorne; and Queen Mary’s Road, Rossington are offering an excellent second-hand range including ladieswear, menswear, children’s and bric-a-brac. Each shop continues to invite quality donations – it is a never ending cycle, or in this case re-cycle. Shop sales help the local RSPCA continue the vital work for animals suffering cruelty and neglect. There are many ways to help us with our mission to rehome and rehabilitate animals including volunteering, donating cash or goods, sponsoring us through our Safe Haven programme and attending our events. We have charity shops at Maltby, Bawtry, Rossington and Thorne. At the Animal Centre we rehome the animals in our care and have a pet supplies store on site for all your requirements. We also provide a pet cremation service and a memorial garden for your beloved pets. To donate £5, text ‘RSPCADRB’ to 70085.

Auckley Parish Council Newsletter July/August 2019
Proposed Road Works at Hurst Lane, Auckley Hurst Lane will be closed during the forthcoming 6 week school holiday in order for a traffic roundabout to be constructed which will provide a new access to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Hopefully the pedestrian crossing planned for outside The Hayfield School will also be installed at the same time. The bus operators have been informed of the closure and will post notices on the existing bus stops informing users of any changes to the service routings. Work will subsequently be undertaken to install a signal-controlled junction at the Hurst Lane/B1396/ School Lane Junction. These highway works shall be completed and operational before the approved access and associated parking facilities are used by visitors to the park. Gatehouse Lane Re-Surfacing Thanks are due to DMBC Highways who have re-surfaced the road to a high standard. Gatehouse Lane will be used as the diversionary route during the Hurst Lane closure . Community Alcohol Partnership Plan Meetings Meetings arranged by the Police have been held at The Zone, Hayfield Lane, in an attempt to address teenage anti-social behaviour. These sessions are attended by representatives of Auckley Parish Council, District Councillors, DMBC Officers and groups in the Hayfield Lane area. Meetings are ongoing and updated information will be given as soon as possible. Proposed Recreational Facilities at Hayfield Lane Contractors are due to start constructing the new play park during July on the former RAF sports field at Hayfield Lane, and the work will take approximately 18 weeks to complete . Play equipment at the park will include a MUGA, table tennis table, slide, swing and springer seat. A defibrillator will be provided on the site.

News From Branton St Wilfrid’s Primary School
Year 6 had an amazing trip to London to celebrate the end of KS2 SATs! During the jam-packed day, the children enjoyed a tour of The Houses of Parliament, where we were met by our local MP, Caroline Flint, giving them an additional tour of the Westminster chapel. During the afternoon, the children were incredibly excited to have their photographs taken on the front door step of 10 Downing Street, before having more photographs outside of Buckingham Palace. Despite the 17,000 steps around London, the children fully appreciated the visit and commented how it was the best trip they had been on!! I think we may even have some MPs in the making. We cannot wait to do it again next year. This year, despite the rain, we held our very own Race for Life around the school grounds. Many children and parents arrived for the event wearing pink and were ready to lap the field to raise lots of money for Cancer research UK. There was a real buzz around the playground as the children and adults walked or ran, with some children completing approximately 8 miles. There were many kind donations of pink buns and cakes on sale which all helped to raise the grand total of £420. At the end of the day, the children were proud to go home with a medal and the knowledge that

Another year at Marrick Priory and another load of special memories made. The children were lucky enough to enjoy some of the beautiful British weather during their stay, especially during their usual day walk where the children walked through breath-taking country side. During the week, many conquered their fear of heights as they completed the leap of faith and the abseiling before tackling the water challenge of canoeing. The children returned to school full of stories and memories to hold on to before they leave Branton St. Wilfrid’s for their chosen secondary school We will have some more school news to share with you in the August issue from our last week before the summer holidays.

Doncaster Rambler’s
A local walk around Sandall Beat
Now that we are beginning to get some decent weather (fingers crossed) there’s no better way than spending a couple of hours out in the great outdoors on a Doncaster Ramble. Our Thursday outings are especially for those new to walking or haven’t been for a while. It’s free and each walk is led by a trained professional Today this was Tony Liversage, a veteran Rambler so we immediately felt in safe hands. Typically for a Thursday short local walk (this came in at 2hr 30min) ten turned up, plus one dog, including a couple of new faces, which is what it’s all about. It’s addictive walking, once you get into your stride. We set off through Sandall Beat Wood and across the foot bridge over the railway continuing North East over open ground then uphill onto the Pit Top. For a moment it felt like you were in the middle of nowhere. In fact from this height you could see for miles. Continuing North made our way through housing towards Edenthorpe crossing the busy A630 on route.
Also fit Alarms
At a crossing of footpaths we made a sharp right to circumnavigate an area of open land, stopping only in the cool shade of woodland to the East for a coffee break.

We Ramblers will venture out in all weathers but there is no doubt, when the sun is shining, there’s a gentle breeze, the paths are dry, and everything is green, this is the best place to be. Retracing our steps South we made a right turn beside school playing fields then left into Armthorpe Shaw woods exiting parallel to the railway line before diving through the underpass then continuing East passing the rugby ground before turning left back into Sandall Beat Wood. If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a hundred times, Doncaster has such great places to walk. Thanks Tony for showing us this one By Peter Rowsell For more information about the Doncaster Ramblers and future activity please visit our Home Page and download full copy of our walk programme https://www.doncasterramblers.org.uk/walks/walks-programme-printed-version.html And follow us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/doncasterramblers/ where GPS Maps of many of our past walks can also be found
