School’s out for summer! I hear the gasp of relief, home schooling has been a huge challenge for so many parents and grandparents over the last few months. Hopefully life can return to a little bit of normality and we can spend some quality time with our families over the next 6 weeks. Children can now look forward to returning to school in September and spending time with their friends and teachers. This time of year, the Arrow would be full of prom photos, leaver parties, summer fayres etc., but, as you know, that’s not been possible! I sincerely hope all of our young people who have missed out on this special transition year, whether it is to Secondary School, College, 6th Form or University/workplace, have the chance to say goodbye to those they will miss, and succeed in their new environments. Good luck to everyone awaiting their exam results and congratulations to those who have received their SATs. The deadline for the September issue is earlier than normal due to the holiday break Monday 10th August. The September issue will be distributed the week commencing 24th August. Keep safe everyone. Auckley Show 200 plus club update. S.O.S. Support Our Show We are continuing with our monthly draw, a way in which everyone has an opportunity to support the show. The current situation restricts the way in which we can call and collect payments that are due for renewal. The last couple of months we have been sending our supporters a letter with suggestions on how best to renew. We thank you for your continued support. Any new members can apply on line through our website. www.auckley.show.co.uk or give me a call to arrange 01302 770818. We are keeping our discounted price at £10 for twelve months with a chance of winning £100 each month. It's really sad news we had to cancel 2020. However, plans are well underway for next year which will be Saturday 21st August 2021. With your support we’ll make it the best ever annual community event. Winner of the July draw number 47 Beverley Morris wins £100. Please note you don’t have to live in Auckley to help support our show. Neil Woodward, Chairman Auckley Show

Test your smoke alarms today! Be honest, when was the last time you tested your smoke alarm? Shockingly, there were no working smoke alarms at almost half of the accidental house fires we attended last year. These are life-saving devices that, if working, will give you early warning of a fire in your home. Haven’t got any? You’re taking a huge gamble. They can be purchased from most local hardware stores or, if you’re unable to get out, online. Alternatively, we may be able to fit you some for free, if you’re deemed at particular risk of fire. Fill out the form on our website and we’ll get back to you when COVID19 restrictions allow.
Already got some? Great, just make sure you test them regularly! We know how easy it is to forget. Or maybe you said you’d do it tomorrow, but then tomorrow came and went. We’ve all been there… That’s why we offer a free smoke alarm reminder service. All you have to do is visit www.pressthebutton.co.uk, give us your email address or phone number and we’ll do the rest. A regular reminder, straight to your phone. What’s not to love? Don’t delay, sign up today!

Community News Eat Out to Help Out
Temporary Road Closure in Auckley
The Government initiative to help restaurants who have been badly affected by the Lockdown measures is a welcome boost. Many local pubs, restaurants, cafes and wine bars have registered already for the scheme which runs throughout August 2020. The Eat out to Help out offers diners 50% off their food and soft drink bill up to £10 per person Monday to Wednesday all day. No vouchers are needed and you can use the offer as often as you want, just look out for the ‘Eat out to Help out’ logo and give your local businesses the support they need.
Hurst Lane and School Lane will both close from the Junction of the B1396 Main Street from 17th July. Hurst Lane will be closed until 1st September and a diversion is in place via Gatehouse Lane. School Lane (30 metres from the junction in a northerly direction) will close until 5th October. The closures are necessary to enable the installation of a new pedestrian splitter island and traffic control lights.

As we approach the summer holidays, we wanted to thank everyone in our community for their support over the past few months. We have all faced different challenges as we adapted to the new situation, and as a community we have been able to support each other and our children to allow them to continue to develop in many different ways. It has been wonderful to see all the photographs, videos and pieces of work that parents and children have sent to school and we look forward to showcasing these in September. We cannot wait to welcome all the children back in to school and hear their experiences about their time at home. Take care everyone and we look forward to seeing all of our families in September. Branton St. Wilfrid’s Team
Goodbye Year 6! We know this year didn’t turn out exactly how we had planned for our Year 6 children this year, but we would like to say a huge good luck in the next chapter of their education. We hope they continue to shine in everything they do and we know they will all achieve their full potential. They have all shown their great characters over the years at Branton St. Wilfrid’s and we will remember each and every one of them. As I look back in the future, I’ll think of you and smile; The kids who showed resilience And went the extra mile. So, though it’s time to say goodbye, Just know that it’s not the end. We’ll live on in your memories As special Year 6 friends. From everyone at Branton St. Wilfrid’s

Local RSPCA re-opens! Following the lifting of certain lockdown restrictions we are delighted that we can now offer an appointment only service at our Animal Centre for potential adopters to meet the animals in our care. We have new processes in place – please see our website rspcadoncasterrotherham.org.uk – to protect the health and safety of the animal, adopters and our team. The other good news is that our charity shops at Rossington and Thorne are open for business and Bawtry and Maltby open August 1st. We are happy to accept donations from all of your decluttering during lockdown! With the current situation we are seeing an increase in stray and abandoned animals being brought into our care, many requiring veterinary treatment or additional support. Throughout lockdown, our Animal Centre team has worked hard to provide care for many vulnerable animals. Like many organisations, things have been tough here at RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District Branch over the past couple of months. We recently wrote about how our income had reduced by 95% due to the COVID 19 pandemic. We have been overwhelmed by the response and generosity of our supporters but there is a long way still to go. There are many ways to help us deliver our mission to rehome and rehabilitate animals during this time including donating cash or goods, sponsoring us through our Safe Haven programme, leaving a legacy, and at the Animal Centre we have a pet supplies store on site for all your requirements. We also provide a pet cremation service and a memorial garden for your beloved pets. To donate £5, text ‘RSPCADRB’ to 70085.

Over the last few months, Auckley school, like many others, has faced many unprecedented challenges. Throughout, we have endeavoured to do our very best for the children. The support and understanding from parents and carers has been vital in making this a success. In School The children have enjoyed learning about different countries. Recently, they focused on Australia. In Foundation stage, the children enjoyed learning the Australian nursery rhyme ‘Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree’. They also painted and labelled their own Australian creatures.
In KS1 and KS2, the children spent time finding out about the climate, the different types of landscape to be seen in Australia and the Aborigines. They also produced some brilliant art work. Home Learning Since the start of lockdown, teachers at Auckley have been setting daily tasks for children in each year group to complete. The ground-breaking Seesaw software has enabled individualised learning to continue through this difficult time. It has allowed children and parents to communicate with teachers. It has been so lovely to see all of the children’s fantastic work. Auckley Co-op After submitting a successful application form to the Co-op Local Community Fund, as from October 2019, we were given 12 months in which Co-op members could choose our project for the Co-op to donate money to. We received our first payment a couple of weeks ago which was an amazing £1800! We are so grateful for this money and it has been put towards building our ‘Lunchtime Lounge’. Thank you Auckley Co-op! Lunchtime Lounge The Auckley School Council has worked hard to raise funds to purchase a ‘Lunchtime Lounge’. The School Council wanted to improve the mental health and wellbeing of their fellow pupils and with this in mind, they decided to purchase a purpose-built summer house. Pupils will be able to read, relax and reflect in a calming atmosphere. They will also be able to take part in yoga sessions. This was a huge undertaking for the School Council. What the Lunchtime Lounge will look like. They have held raffles, produced items to sell at the Christmas Fayre, circulated Bags2school and they have written to outside agencies asking for contributions, all in their own time. After months of hard work, and with the help of some very generous donations, the School Council reached their target. The base has been laid and the order for the summer house has been placed. Congratulations to the School Council and your fellow pupils for your fantastic fund raising efforts. Well done!

A Farewell Poem from Auckley School to their Year 6 leavers. Last year the team was Penny and Charlotte. This year, two more, with Mrs' Piercy and Sherratt. Four adults working with thirty-one children, The year began with high hopes for learning and fun! We started with a topic on the First World War, Read Flanders Fields, about Anne Frank and so much more. We tried carrying sandbags, pumped water and covered our ears As the air-raid siren sounded and we understood the fears That the evacuee children had faced long ago. We felt safe in comparison - little did we know... The children wrote diaries, recounts, a letter, Did multiplication and learned times tables better. The teachers were taught about football and cars As the pupils explained about engines and stars. They told us their hobbies, their hopes and their dreams They deafened us all with their chat, laughter and screams. Then, boosters began to take place every day, A sure sign that SATS were on the way. Then just as revision was starting to tire us, Life came to a stop due to Coronavirus. Lockdown was announced and we had to stay home. School switched learning to Seesaw, communicated by phone. Strange times were upon us, the teachers worked on, To provide home-school learning until the battle was won. The school remained open for keyworker families. We worked through the holidays but didn't charge fees. SATS were abandoned and we missed going to Hatfield But we met up again when we visited Hayfield. And now as the end of the school year approaches, The team has enjoyed being their teachers and coaches. Finally, we encourage them to spread their wings, Move on to their new schools and to better things.
