With the latest news on the Coronavirus changing daily, I would like to advise everyone to check any events and meetings advertised in this month’s Arrow before attending and to follow the advice of Public Health England and the NHS. There is a centre page pull-out in this month’s Arrow which advises readers of a community support initiative to help anyone who may be self isolating or in need of support. The website address for Public Health England and the NHS is there too. Please check these sources for information to make sure you follow the correct advice. There is a lot of incorrect information about. The deadline for the May issue is Wednesday 18th April The May issue will be distributed the weekend beginning Friday 27th March. Even when dormant those brambles try to get you, but that, as they say, is another story, for now it was once more about mud and flood. To be fair I did warn the gathering crowd of thirteen it was likely to get messy. “Let’s get going” came the retort, “before we change our minds” so off we set. Quickly passing the boating lake and the common, we crossed the railway line in the top left corner before heading on a footpath east with a six foot ditch on right side and thick mud left. The only sure footing was a perilous few inch of vegetation in the middle. Thick mist was still in the air so the risk was unapparent! Moving on through Alder Wood we were greeted by a delightful family of Alpacas before crossing a second railway line, and onwards under firmer footing to well marked crossing of paths. Turning right over a field whose uneven surface made tricky progress but once across, all were adept at the quickstep. Reaching Wrancarr Mill Farm home of The British Blonde Society (and no not saucy please, cows, pardon?) we stopped for elevenses. Having made reasonable progress, we agreed a short cut along Clay Bank would not be necessary (although later some might have disagreed) so went left on Wrancarr Lane then right at the next fingerpost along a wide greenway recently flattened by a caterpillar. This did not help the going as we hurdled from one track to the other. At a concealed stile in a hedge the footpath took us in front of Wrancarr House, where an excited Rottweiler puppy dashed out to greet us. There was a debate whether for safety’s sake this walk should be excluded for the 2022 programme on the grounds the dog would three time bigger and twice as aggressive. At the top of the farm track turning left for a bit of a dog leg, we made our way towards the manned level crossing at Thorpe Grange. There was mud, puddles, hawthorn, and bramble, all out to hinder progress. Secateurs to hand we did battle with some of the prickly beggers, but it was a struggle. Luckily we made the level crossing on one piece, and the cheery lady from Network Rail opened up and let us pass. We had a short respite from mud and thorn as we marched along Thorpe Grange Lane but eventually were forced to take the footpath north where conditions did not improve, becoming in parts a mud bath. Continuing north we turned right along Long Bank crossing the railway for a final time, then passing briefly through Rushy Moor Plantation before turning right over waste land the end was in sight, but not before one final muddy challenge. Congratulations everyone for completing 6.3miles in 3 hrs. Home for Life Cats Looking after a pet means loving and caring for them for life, but it can also mean making plans for them if we pass away. Izzy, R.C, Lulu and Teacup all came into RSPCA care together after their owner sadly passed away. Thankfully, their owner had prepared a place of safety with the National RSPCA Home for Life scheme. This means that, in the event of your death, the RSPCA will care for them and do all we can to find them a happy home. All four cats had been much loved in their previous home and all adored fuss and affection from the team of RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham & District Branch at their animal centre near Bawtry. Izzy & R.C are a lovely pair of older gents. R.C loved nothing more than being cuddled and snuggled up in a blanket in the cat snug. Poor R.C had lost an eye earlier in life but this didn’t stop him being an affectionate old lad. Izzy, despite being over 10, absolutely loved a bit of catnip and a play session every afternoon! These two found a home together after only six weeks. Lulu and Teacup struggled to settle at first but were soon stealing everyone’s hearts. Lulu really enjoyed her daily grooming sessions and always came running to say hello. Teacup was the friendliest boy and would stand on his hind legs asking to be picked up. It didn’t take these two long to find their perfect family, who travelled over 70 miles to meet them. They have settled well into their new home and are still as chatty and loving as ever. Life for these cats could have been very different if their owner had not prepared an RSPCA Home for Life plan for them. This is one example of how the RSPCA Doncaster and Rotherham branch

Update to Spring 2020 Newsletter Cancellation of Police ‘Drop In’ Session Planned for 30 March 2020 Unfortunately notification has been received from the police that it is not possible for anyone to attend the planned ‘Drop In’ on the above date due to officers being reassigned to other work. A new date is awaited and will be published on the parish council website and in the next available edition of the Branton and Auckley Arrow. Traffic Concerns in Branton At the March parish council meeting DMBC Ward Councillors Jane and Steve Cox accepted an invitation from the parish council to discuss with residents traffic concerns in the parish particularly on Whiphill Top Lane. The parish council recognises and fully supports the residents’ concerns having raised issues with Doncaster Council on a number of previous occasions. In order to best progress any action the Ward Councillors have asked that any matters relating to traffic safety are forwarded directly to them as the more complaints that are received the more likely it is that any improvements can be enacted and this will seek to highlight the actions already commenced by the parish council. Please email your concerns to Councillors Jane and Steve Cox to Jane.Cox@doncaster.gov.uk and Steve.Cox@doncaster.gov.uk 100th Birthday Notifications The parish council would like to send a message of congratulations to any resident of the parish who reaches their 100th birthday. If you are aware of any family member, friend or neighbour who will reach this milestone please send notification to the Clerk to the Council at cwbpc@outlook.com providing the person’s name and address. If preferred the greeting can be sent to another address for forwarding to the recipient.

Branton Litter Pick Branton St Wilfrid’s Primary school kicked off our March Litter Pick mid week covering many streets around the school. They were all brilliant, well behaved and took their litter picking very seriously. All together, they collected 3 full bags of litter. ell done to everyone involved (staff included). On Saturday, we had a great turnout with some ‘first timers’. It was a lovely day and we avoided the rain that followed later. An astonishing 50 plus bags were collected as well as a further 6 on Kilham Lane which was covered by our regular litter picker Garry and his Son Joel, mid week, thank you Garry and Joel! Thank you to everyone who helped out (we have a few camera shy so not everyone is in the photo!) We found a money bank (empty) and one of our new members found a £5 note! Big thank you to Street Scene and DMBC for collecting the rubbish as soon as we finished. The next litter pick will be around late June/July so watch out for the next date in the Arrow.

The UK has well-established plans to deal with outbreaks of infectious disease and everyone can play an important role in making these plans work, slowing down the spread of coronavirus. We try to slow the spread of coronavirus for a number of important reasons: Firstly, we are still learning about COVID19. At the moment we believe that the majority of people who get the disease will experience a mild illness, but because this is a new virus we Public Health England, approved advice as of 16th March 2020. are not complacent, and our scientists will continue to learn from evidence emerging both here and internationally. Secondly, though we believe most people will have a mild illness, some older people or people with pre-existing health conditions will experience severe illness and we need to protect them. Finally, trying to slow an outbreak so everyone isn’t sick at once is an important way to manage pressure on health services and prevent widespread staff sickness absence in our public services and businesses. There some simple and effective actions everyone can take to protect themselves and their wider community:  Wash your hands before and after eating, using the toilet, preparing food and every time you return home for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap.  Catch sneezes and coughs in a tissue, always carry tissues, bin them as soon as possible and wash your hands. Use your arm if you have no tissue.  If you suffer from a new persistent cough or high temperature, you and those you live with must self isolate for 14 days at home. Try to remain separate from others at home, eat separately and be the last person to use the bathroom, cleaning fully afterwards. You may exercise outside but keep away from other people.  Encourage social distancing, work from home where possible, avoid public transport, pubs, clubs, restaurants, theatre etc.  Have a plan of support for those around you in case anyone you know needs to self isolate, look after your neighbours and older members of your family with shopping etc.  If you start to experience symptoms and believe you could have coronavirus, do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital as you could pass the infection to others. Visit NHS UK's coronavirus (COVID-19) page for advice.  Contact NHS 111 if your symptoms are getting worse.  The UK coronavirus (COVID-19) page will keep you in touch with how the Government is responding.  The NHS coronavirus (COVID-19) page includes a wide range of health-related information.  Follow Public Health England or The Department of Health and Social Care on Twitter for regular updates.

CORONAVIRUS COVID (19)

SUPPORT IN OUR VILLAGES, PROVIDED BY OUR COMMUNITY As we are all now aware, the Coronavirus is among us and the Government has issued guidance to help slow the spread of this virus. Their aim is to delay the ‘peak’ and hopefully reduce the size of the peak to help alleviate the pressure on the NHS. The advice at the time of going to print on Monday 16th March 2020 has been published on the opposite page. It is important you keep up to date with the latest advice using the official NHS and Public Health England websites as this advice may change.

www.gov.uk/government/organisations/public-health-england www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19

I have collated a list of volunteers, residents within our community, who are happy to provide help with shopping and errands for the elderly and those who need to self isolate if they have no other support. These volunteers are not replacing the work of the NHS and care providers, they are simply residents carrying out neighbourly duties and helping where they can. The most important thing is to keep yourself safe and consider the safety of others. The volunteers WILL NOT need to enter your property and will only knock on your door if you have requested their help. You will know in advance, the name of the person who will assist you. We have area coordinators who can be contacted on the numbers below and they can delegate any requests for help from the list of volunteers in your village. They will not always be available as they have their own commitments to attend to but will try to get back to you as soon as possible if they miss your call. Hopefully this list of support should provide you with help should you need it.

We don’t want anyone in our community going without food or essential items because they have no one to ask for help. Branton/Old Cantley

Auckley Parish Council Newsletter March – April 2020

Alternative Venues for Parish Council Meetings Unfortunately, in spite of sustained efforts, Council has been unable to find a suitable venue in the Hayfield Lane area where some meetings might be held as an alternative to the Parish Centre. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. New Footway on Hayfield Lane Council is grateful to DMBC for constructing a new footway along Hayfield Lane which will eliminate the need for children to walk on the grassed areas on their way to school. Hayfield Recreation Park Hopefully, if the dry weather continues, work can soon begin to seed the football field and the park will then be opened. In addition to the equipment alreadyinstalled, Council plans to provide some swings for younger children. Neighbourhood Development Plan Meeting The next meeting of the Group will be held on Monday, 6th April, commencing at 6.30 p.m. at the Auckley Parish Centre.
