Community News RBL Poppy Appeal, Collectors needed in Branton & Auckley. Chris Adamson from Blaxton has been selling Poppies in Blaxton since 1975. At that time 10 sites or collectors covered Blaxton and Finningley. Over time, collecting has expanded to include Auckley and Branton and they now have 60 collecting boxes which are placed in shops, pubs, offices and schools as well as 5 people who go door to door collecting. Due to the expansion of this fabulous charity, it has become too much for Chris to organise. If you would be interested in organising the collections etc. in Auckley and Branton, please contact Chris at c.adamson581@btinternet.com or 01302 770583 and Chris can give you more information.

NOTICE TO ALL RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERS
Thank You
For cleaning up after your beloved pets and considering your neighbours, young and old. If it was not for you, we would be unable to walk a few yards in our villages without having to bypass dog dirt. That said, there are some dog owners, only a few, who do not feel the need to pick up after their pets, if they think no one is watching. The problem is, if your dog does it’s business on a footpath, leading to school or the local convenience store at night when it is dark, it will still be there in the morning when school children walk to school, parents push their young children in prams and push chairs for a lovely walk around the village and elderly people run their errands. Please think of these people who need to avoid your dog’s mess and are often forced onto the road to do so.
Please, pick up after your dog and do your bit to keep our villages beautiful.
DMBC Officers, under the recent Public Space Protection Order, have the right to ask if you have a bag for your dog’s mess if you are out walking your dog, day or night!

World Book Day at Branton St Wilfrid’s Primary School And They Lived Happily Ever After...
Even the snow couldn't stop our Branton bookworms! Thanks to the weather it was a few days later than originally planned but as soon as the snow had melted we held our very own World Book Day. We always love being in school when fancy dress is involved and WBD is always an event we look forward to every year, but in 2018 the children out did themselves! From Harry Potters to Gangsta Grannies and several Matildas and Wallys, everyone made a fantastic effort (even the staff!) There were also some brilliant home made costumes that a lot of thought and effort had clearly gone into. Later in the day, the Book Swap Shop was another massive success and everyone went home with a new story to dive into. Thank you to all the children for making such a great effort and for a really fun day! And thank you to the parents and carers who were able to join us and those who donated cakes and buns on the day. Same time next year?!?!

PREMIER LAWN CARE COMPANY LAUNCHES NEW ‘MAKEOVER’ SERVICE
BRITAIN’S premier lawn care company has just launched a unique ‘Makeover’ service to give consumers in the Doncaster East area the perfect patch – without the hassle of re-turfing. GreenThumb’s Lawn Makeover programme guarantees exceptional service to create a wonderful lawn – at a fraction of the cost of laying new turf. Its Makeover is unique, says the company, because as well as killing and completely removing worn-out grass, choking moss and problem weeds, its expert staff re-seed the clean soil with an exclusive grass seed mix, top-dress with recycled, organic and sustainable compost to nourish its growth, and then make a number of aftercare visits. Doncaster East GreenThumb branch owner, Chris Potton, says the Makeover is ideal for new or existing customers in older or new-build properties, who want to replace old, dying or poorquality turf full of coarse or weed-grasses, with the most luxurious, green and weed-free lawn possible. Mr Potton says: “With at least 10,000 lawn treatments a year, our 2,500 customers are amazed at the 'miracles' – in their own words – our professional lawn operatives can perform. This Makeover is our biggest and best yet!” Mr Potton, who has been running the branch since 2009, says: “Re-turfing is often the first thought – but our Makeover is far superior and saves you around 50%. Based on an average lawn size of 160m (approx. 190yards) it’s around £8 per square metre. Larger lawns are even less per square metre.” Doncaster East covers Thorne, Moorends, Barnby Dun, Edenthorpe and Armthorpe areas as well as Finningley, Westwoodside, Epworth, Crowle, the western side of Scunthorpe and Messingham. To contact GreenThumb Doncaster East for a free, no-obligation Lawn Makeover appointment and quote, call 01427 238442, email doncastereast@greenthumb.co.uk or request a visit online at www.greenthumb.co.uk/branch/doncastereast#contact

Doncaster Rambler’s Tadcaster Eight At last - we were greeted by a bright and sunny day as 32 of met by the famous bridge in Tadcaster (a town with not one but two massive breweries) and set off along the Ebor Way, heading upstream alongside the River Wharfe. Ornithological highlights included a majestic heron and a less common merganser, identifiable by its distinctive red bill. (It is one of only two types of sawbill ducks in the UK with its serrated bill designed to grip fish - especially eels.) After a mile or so we branched off away from the river for a while and through some gentle, sheep-filled countryside and along minor roads - enjoying a coffee break along the way. We returned to the river through the beautiful grounds and buildings of Newton Kyme with its ancient church, Dower House, ornate Hall, ha-ha and immaculate grounds full of spring flowers and masses of snowdrops. We followed the river downstream back to Tadcaster for lunch with a choice of picnic spots, pubs and cafes. Having covered 6.5 miles before lunch, the afternoon was a relatively easy 3 miles along mainly hard surfaces and tracks. We ended the walk by crossing the impressive old rail viaduct and returning alongside the river again. Thanks Keith, for a really enjoyable day out and for your care and consideration as our walk leader. Thanks also to Hilda for herding us all back safe and sound! DB

The Great British Spring Clean in Auckley
There was a great response to my request for volunteer litter pickers in the end to help support the Great British Spring Clean Event on Sat 10 March. 10 lovely folks gave up their Saturday afternoon to do their bit for the community. In total we filled 35 bags and collected some big items of rubbish eg tv, chair etc out of the ditches down Common Lane. (Thanks especially to Ian 'dyke' Butterfield for these!) We split into teams and tackled 6 areas around Auckley : 13 bags plus other big pieces down Common Lane. 13 bags down Hayfield Lane going towards Hayfield pub. 5 bags between Auckley and Branton along main road. 4 bags at entrance to footpath next to Hayfield Lane Primary. 1 bag at entrance to footpath in Bell Butts Lane. 2 bags Bell Butts to the level crossing towards Hayfield Fisheries. (Thanks to John Helliwell who undertook this in his own time as couldn't make the Sat event). Many thanks also to Debbie, Ian, Linda, Sue, Julie, Sarah, Miles, Sue and Richard. So much fun was had it has been suggested we hold another litter pick event in a few months time ..........so watch this space!
