Welcome to the September issue of the Barnby Dun and Edenthorpe Arrow magazine.

News, News, News, News, News….

Ladies Fashion Show & Shopping A ladies fashion show and shopping event will take place on Thursday 24 September at The Glasshouse, 1 Doncaster Road, Doncaster DN3 1HP. A Bar will be available.

High Street fashion at 50% or more off. Clothing available to try on and buy on the night.

Cash and cards accepted.

Doors will open at 7pm and the show starts at 7.30pm.

Charity raffle – prizes to include a £50 clothing voucher to spend on the night.

FAMILY PLANNING Barnby Dun Players are presenting the farce / comedy FAMILY PLANNING at Fishlake Hall on Thursday & Friday 17th & 18th September and also at The Parish Hall Barnby Dun on Saturday & Sunday 19th & 20th September. Curtain up at both venues is 7.30pm.

Solid, dependable Elsie and hypochondriac Idris or her boyfriend Bobby. Gran permanently ensconced in bed (on stage) knows all and sees all, helps to pave the way for her announcement.

Unfortunately Idris overhearing Elsie and Tracy jumps to the wrong conclusion and believes he has but a short time to live.

Next door neighbor Maisey butts in when Bobby is speaking to Idris and after a liberal amount of gin all round proceeds to show her true affections for Idris.

Misunderstandings and mishaps abound in the second act not least with Gran and events are brought to a riotous conclusion when Maisey tries to apologise and Elsie catches her at it.!

War Memorial On Friday the 30 of July I was informed that the Edenthorpe War Memorial was ready to have the final inscription done of the names we have found who had been associated with Edenthorpe.

With it was the approximate bill that amounts to a little over £5,000 We have found some history of the names that will be on the memorial .The following is what happed to Geoffrey Lickley On August 6 1941 at 2239 hours a Wellington bomber X9633 took off from Mildenhall airbase on a mission raid over the city of Mannheim Germany for unknown reasons the bomber crashed near to the village of Thorembais St.Trond in Belgium killing all 6 crew members Geoffrey Lickley was a member of the crew he was a Sergeant wireless operator /air gunner aged 20 years All six members of the Wellington bomber are buried together in the village of Thorembais St. Trond I contacted the person who recorded all the information by e mail and also found more information wrote by a lady who lives nearby I sent a note to the lady and received a reply telling me the lady is English and now lives in the village and visit the cemetery regular and tends to the graves that are all well cared for and have a grave stone by the War Graves Commission I mentioned what we are doing to get a memorial in the village. The name of the lady is Valerie was so pleased to read this she sent me this reply Dear Sirs, it was with great surprise and pleasure to receive your emails. I have no problem with you having my email address.

My name is Valerie Batterham Delaruelle. I do live just opposite the little cemetery in Thorembaise St Trond in Belgium. I have visited the six war graves including the one of the young brave Geoffrey Likeley, many times. But due to my age and mobility now days not so often. I like to go to thank them for giving me a chance to a good life. I have had friends come over to Belgium, and they all go over to show their respects. They are not forgotten. I would so love to see the memorial to the boys from your village,( because that's what they were) young lovely boys and men. But with my health I am not sure it would be easy for me to travel. But I would love to hear all about it. P.S, if you need any photos. I will make sure I get them to you.

Valerie Delaruelle I told Valerie our plans and sent her a copy of the design she says when she goes now she will see the six young men and will know a little about Geoffrey On Sunday 2 August a note was put in my letter box with a £10 note in from a lady that lives in Edenthorpe who had read about the Memorial and as a pensioner she was pleased to be able to help us to raise money to the lady thank you very much If anyone would like to make a donation you can sent them to 17 or 15 Robin Hood Cres Edenthorpe or cheque payable to Edenthorpe War Memorial fund or at any of our collection points in shops in Edenthorpe or if you would like to help give us a call at the phone no below The donation made by Vertu Honda Doncaster was received by our President Rosie Winterton M.P. Building great relationships within the Doncaster community is the icing on the cake for us. If there is anything else we can do to help support The Edenthorpe War Memorial we will endeavour to do so.
