News, News, News, News, News….

Sainsbury’s in Edenthorpe has raised an amazing £4195 for young cancer patients Sainsbury’s supermarket in Edenthorpe, Doncaster has raised £4195 throughout 12 months of fundraising for CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families.

The charity was chosen after customers were given the opportunity to vote in-store and online for their favourite charity. The store colleagues then decided that CLIC Sargent were the best charity for them to work with to make a real difference. Over the last 12 months they’ve embarked on a number of fundraising initiatives as well as contributing sack loads of toys for Sheffield Children’s Hospital at Christmas.

Jon Cox, Store Manager said: “We’ve had a great response from our customers and colleagues to supporting CLIC Sargent over the last 12 months and we’re delighted to have raised so much money for the charity as it’s really touched the hearts of many of our colleagues. To play our part in helping the charity ensure that children and young people can live their life to the full as much as possible means a great deal to everyone.”

CLIC Sargent fundraising manager Stephen Jackett said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Sainsbury’s Edenthorpe’s colleagues and customers have made this wonderful contribution. We really appreciate the hard work and generosity that has gone in to raising the pounds – every penny raised will help provide vital support for children and young people with cancer, and their families.”

Edenthorpe Community Centre.

The centre has gone through a lot of modernisation over the last year or so, new windows, entrance, boilers, furniture, painting and it now meets all current Heath and safety regulations. A lot of hard work has been put in by the volunteers that make up the committee and run the centre which is a registered charity. We would like to welcome more groups to use the centre, like dementia groups, weight management, exercise classes, anything really, we still have many slots available to add to the timetable of groups already there. Our large hall can accommodate 120 seated guests for parties or other occasions. It is a great space for children's parties, fitting in large bouncy castles, discos and still plenty of room for burning off surplus energy. We have a kitchen facility with plates, mugs and jugs for children's parties and glasses, cups etc for the adults with tea, coffee making facilities provided. Our smaller meeting room is ideal for smaller groups and meetings holding up to 40 people. All our rates are very competitive whether it's a one off or a regular booking. We are very proud of our centre, and would love for the people of Edenthorpe and its surrounding villages to have a greater variety of events on at the centre to add to the classes that are already there. At the moment the centre runs short mat bowling groups, children's dance classes, little gems drop in for children under one, music bugs, line dancing, yoga, art class, Thursday friends, (come and have a cuppa and a chat), gardening club, WI, and the local life church group run by Pastor Les has many group sessions for all ages. EDENTHORPE WAR MEMORIAL We Have received very good news that we are a big step forward as the news was the memorial is competed and the mason is ready to start the lettering that has to be done We are to give the names and information this is to be inscribed on the memorial This is to be in stone we are making as sure as we can that names dates etc. are correct. 5 names have to be inscribed.

We were informed that had 6 names would be Edenthorpe villagers from information given After my last letter I received a phone call and had a long talk with a very helpful lady who wishes to remain anonymous but would allow be to say her initials are JB thank you to her for a nice chat and she sends all best wished for the project The lady knew the daughter of the family we were not sure about.

We have had a setback that has meant we have had to rearrange the dates for the programme we had planned the setback was not any fault of our group or Edenthorpe PC or the planning dept. Phone calls were made and the Doncaster planning dept. have pulled all the stops out to help us we are most grateful to the Councillors who have helped to resolve the problem.

The new dates for the for the dedication service will be held on the start at 10 45.am on 11 November 2015 at the memorial site All our welcome to this service Families of some of the fallen will be at the service More on this at a later date.

I also received a very nice moving letter and a generous donation from a gentleman who also wishes to remain anonymous initials Thank you AB. I replied to his letter and asked if he would introduce himself to me on dedication day fingers crossed on that.

We are still making collection for the memorial fund if you would like to make and donation whoever much you wish is most welcome or we still have collection tins out in the village if you want to post you can send to me address at bottom of page.

We had a nice gesture for a lady and her children who donated the contents of their money box how nice is that.
