Welcome to the February 2016 issue of the Barnby Dun & Edenthorpe Arrow. It doesn’t seem five minutes since the kids were at home for Christmas but its half term holidays in February! Earlier than usual this year too. If you’re looking for somewhere to take the children for a day out why not visit Maize maze or the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. There’s lots going on for everyone. Also, don’t forget Valentines Day, which is on Sunday 14th February. ‘Flowers With A Difference’ Thorne Road, Edenthorpe, have some lovely flowers and gift ideas. I’m hoping for a little something myself but we will see!

News, News, News, News, News…. David Nevett and Tony Diabetes UK Doncaster Revill would like to thank the electorate of Area Support Group. CLOUDS COMMUNITY COUNSELLING SERVICE Clouds Community Counselling Service are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a Big Lottery Grant of £180,000 over the next three years. This great news will facilitate three projects in key areas of the Practice within the area of East Doncaster. One of the key areas will enable the Practice to continue the valuable work with members of the community suffering from Bereavement to help them move forward and put energy back into their living. Secondly the counselling team work with all ages above 13 years of age with any issue which is causing the client distress and difficulty, including anxiety and depression, relationship issues, loss of confidence, low self-esteem amongst others offering longer term care. Thirdly Young People will be helped to learn to manage their feelings better which will not only improve their home life but also Improve their engagement with education thus improving their future. All those who utilise the service with various unique life problems will be helped by counsellors to improve their quality of life for themselves, their families and their community. Additionally, a key part of the funding will help the Service to assist trainee counsellors to qualify and others to increase counselling experience and become not only more employable but acquire more relevant skills and tools to help the Service users. The Grant will facilitate core costs such as the rent of our office and counselling space and enable us to have additional counselling help and includes the appointment of a Practice Manager Rob Jackson to Manage the Service leading a Management Team supported by Sally Chamberlain. This will help to build on the success of Clouds Community Service which has been going from strength to strength and last year received 223 new referrals, offering in access of 70 weekly appointments, amounting to over 1700 appointments in total at 7 different Centres to the East of Doncaster and has Counsellors available every day of the week including Saturday morning at two centres. The Big Lottery Grant will make a real difference to our community by helping to develop the Practice’s Capabilities in the way of further Training and skills delivering even more affectively to the community. North East Doncaster Citizens Advice Bureau Can you still get credit if you have a low credit score If you have a low credit score, a lender may ask for a guarantor. A guarantor is a second person who signs a credit agreement to say they will repay the money if you don't. This can be a way you can borrow money or get credit when on your own you might not be able to. If you are using a guarantor to borrow, they'll also have to give information about their personal details so that the creditor can check they're credit worthy. Try to pick a guarantor who is likely to have a good credit score. The guarantor is responsible for paying the money back if you don't and they have the same rights as you under the credit agreement. For example, the guarantor should get the same information before and after signing an agreement. If you are thinking about agreeing to be a guarantor for someone else, make sure you understand what you are agreeing to. Read all the small print in the agreement before signing it. Since payday loans became more controlled there has been an upsurge in lenders requiring a guarantor. Loan applicants are being asked to get friends or family to guarantee their borrowing. Many friends and family will find it hard to say no but do they really understand the risk they may be taking? Does the person wanting to borrow actually understand the potential risks they are asking of their friends or family? The average payday loan is £260 and they are short term, up to 12 months. Guarantor loans can be up to £7,500 and can last between 12 and 60 months. 1. The extent of guarantors’ responsibilities are often unclear. For example, one guarantor who came to Citizens Advice had been led to believe they were doing no more than providing a character witness for their borrower. In our cases it is not uncommon for guarantors to be entirely unaware of their responsibilities. 2. Misleading or pressurising practices take place at the point of sale. For example, our cases show a number of serious instance of duress between the guarantor and borrower. 3. Basic affordability is a problem due to the combination high interest rates and a longer loan period. For example, one client came to us having taken out a loan for £5,000 and made payments at £197 month. After payments of £7,000, only £1,000 of loan capital had been repaid. 4. And enforcement tactics are aggressive. For example, in the circumstances that a borrower dies, a number of large lenders will enforce the debt against the guarantor.
