As we turn the page on another summer, it’s hard to believe that the season is nearly behind us. Soon, the sound of school bells will fill the air again, and our community will begin gearing up for the exciting festivities just around the corner.
In this issue, we’ve packed in the latest news, events, and stories that make our community such a wonderful place to call home. As we look ahead to Halloween, Bonfire Night, and Christmas, we invite you to share your plans with us. If you have any upcoming events or activities that you’d like to see featured in the Arrow, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re eager to include as many community happenings as possible, ensuring that everyone has a chance to be part of the seasonal celebrations.
Please note that the deadline for the October issue is Wednesday, September 18th. We look forward to receiving your submissions.
Best Wishes
Doncaster became Yorkshire’s newest city in 2022, winning a contest held to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. Join us for a fun evening of light-hearted chat and discussion, retelling the story of this historic campaign, and celebrating everything about Doncaster.
It will be heady a mix of history, heritage, and culture, recognising some of Doncaster’s greatest moments, as well as many lesser-known achievements. Where else would The Flying Scotsman, Paddington Bear, Ivanhoe, and Open all Hours feature on the same billing?
The evening is hosted by Jim Carley, author of “The Race for City Status: How Doncaster became one of Britain’s Newest Cities”. Our guest panel includes Dan Fell, Chief Executive of Doncaster Chamber and Chair of the City Status campaign; Lindsy James, Director of local charity Active Fusion and a World Duathlon Champion; and Chloe Wilburn, local businesswoman and winner of TV’s Big Brother in 2015.
Tickets are as cheap as chips at just £5.00 each, and 100% of all ticket sales will go to the Doncaster Little Theatre charity.

I have received an e-mail from Disklok informing me that a member of the public recently contacted them and gave an old discount code.
Here is the latest code to be quoted. It gives 15% off the RRP. Its available for people wanting to protect their vehicles from theft, keyless car thefts and it acts as a general crime prevention deterrent.
For further crime prevention advice, visit the South Yorkshire Police website at https://www.southyorks.police.uk/find-out/crime-prevention-advice/ Stay safe and secure. Eamonn Eamonn.larkin@southyorks.pnn.police.uk

The Friends held their Community Coffee Morning on Saturday 27th July at Hatfield Library. It was a very busy morning with lots going on.
We were joined by other community groups too, including The Friends of Jubilee Park who were outside selling plants; Pete Bullers with his handmade bird boxes. We also had Pat with her beautiful decoupage gifts and the Friends of Hatfield Church Building Trust selling their preloved jewellery. Vera was tempting us with her delicious homemade preserves, and the DN7 Foodbank held a biscuit tombola. Hatfield Cubs ran a Guess the Playing Card game and sold tickets for the library’s bicycle raffle.
We had 3 special guests, Clive Smith from the Rotary Club of Doncaster St George's (who funded the event), our new vicar of St Lawrence Chris Bishop and our new MP Lee Pitcher as well as lots of other regular supporters and a few new faces who all made it a successful event.
Grateful thanks for the donation of raffle prizes to Sarah Jane’s Tearoom, Tesco at Edenthorpe, Dunsville Post Office; The Flare Path, Dunsville, and Janet, Pat and Paul. We raised a terrific £287.85 for group funds, which will help towards buying more bulbs, etc for the park and equipment for our volunteers. Thank you to everyone who supported this event.
On Tuesday 30th July, we raised our new Green Flag for 2024/25. Thank you to everyone who came along. The Friends work tirelessly throughout the year to improve the park for visitors and help ensure we retain green flag status. Huge thanks go to the Doncaster Council Rangers, Street Scene and, of course, our amazing volunteers for their continued support.

We hope you enjoyed your holidays whether home or abroad, or if you just relaxed with a cool drink whilst cheering on our teams in the Olympics.
We are still finalising discussions with Doncaster Royal Infirmary regarding cancer-related equipment they need and hope to have some news by next month.
In the meantime, we will be at Sprotbrough Library on Saturday, 28th September where they are holding their annual Charity Craft Fair from 10am to 12 noon. We will be selling jewellery and scarves, plus a lucky dip. Entrance is free and there will be a good variety of stalls, plus a raffle.
A note for your diary. Our annual Memory Tree will be held in the Frenchgate Centre from Monday, 25th November to Saturday, 7th December (excluding Sunday, 1st December) from 10am to 3pm daily.
