In these changing times it has never been more important to support your local businesses.

Local businesses make a positive impact to the local economy, they support communities and job creation, they are often sustainable shopping alternatives and are more likely to put customer service first.

There are also many more reasons why shopping locally can be of benefit to you and to the local businesses.

The deadline for the May issue is Thursday 17th April. Please send any information you would like including. Best Wishes

DONCASTER CANCER DETECTION TRUST

April is such a lovely month, with the promise of warmer days and lighter evenings.

We are very happy to report that, with your generous donations, we have purchased a USS lung machine for Doncaster Royal Infirmary at a cost of £19,500. This is a chest ultrasound machine (a non-invasive imaging tool) which will assist the Doncaster respiratory team who are planning on setting up a dedicated pleural service to do a ‘onestop shop’ pleural clinic. There are more than 700 pleural effusion related admissions per year at DRI, many of which are cancer related.

Our main news is that we are changing the way we will operate as from 1st April. However, due to finalising legal details, it will take a little longer to inform you what is actually happening. Rest assured we will let you know as soon as possible.

In the meantime, should you wish to get in touch with us our contact details are: 22 Wood Street, Doncaster DN1 3LW (passageway to the right of “The Grumpy Goat Coffee House”), first floor (lift available), Room 104. Tel. 01302 325029. Email: info@dcdt.co.uk. Website: dcdt.co.uk. As the office is not fully manned it is best to Email or telephone in advance if you are thinking of coming to see us. As always, we really appreciate your support.

Hatfield Town Cricket Club

Indoor netting has been a massive success at all age groups this winter and hopefully that bodes well for a positive season for all our teams.

Over the last couple of seasons there has been a large increase in players especially in the junior age groups who have been attracted by the commitment of our coaches and improving facilities. It has though created a new need for improved and additional practice facilities and so we have started a search for the necessary funding through national and local funding providers and have already received Sport England support. We have created a justgiving page at Hatfield Town Cricket Club (HTCC) - JustGiving where proceeds from recent fundraising activities will be placed and we will be inviting the local community to donate if they feel able to do so. If any business would like to support our efforts in providing more facilities for the local community please get in touch with us at hatfield.towncc@outlook.com

On the field, the season at Carr Side Lane starts on the 19th April with our 2nd XI at home to Conisbrough CC as they begin life in Division 5. Our new-look 1st XI have been boosted by the signing of batsmen Josh Hartfield from Barnsley WMCC, skipper Dave Barrett is pleased to have landed Josh after his move to the area. Having averaged over 30 with the bat in Division 3 last season it was a no-brainer to get him into the squad as we push for promotion. The 1st XI face two difficult away games to begin the season as they travel to Norton Oakes and Shiregreen on consecutive weekends.

Our outdoor training and family evenings will be starting in early April depending on weather and ground conditions, please look out on our social media for more details.

We look forward to seeing lots of you at the ground supporting all our teams for what promises to be an exciting and busy season!

Friends of Quarry Park

We had a great turnout for our March work party when 19 volunteers and our Ranger Sam met in the sunshine ready to get started. We were joined by Ian from Doncaster Council who came along to see what we had been up to recently and to discuss some projects that we need help with.

The park is looking particularly pretty just now and has certainly come to life with snowdrops, daffodils and crocus all displaying beautiful colours. The bluebells are also starting to push through the undergrowth and some trees are in blossom.

The litter picking teams set off in different directions and did a great job collecting 6 bags of rubbish and a wheelbarrow full of various items as well as a broken kid’s scooter!

Another team installed a super new bench near Vulcan Copse. This is part of an ongoing project to repair or replace damaged seats around the park and has been purchased with funds raised by the Friends of Quarry Park. The bench was supplied by Realise Futures which is a social enterprise in East Anglia, whose aim is to improve and promote the economic and social wellbeing of those who are disadvantaged and/or disabled.

Our building gang completed the 4th Bug House project with an amazing structure in the car park for our creepy crawly residents! The pallets for this project have been generously donated by Junction 4 Pallets, so huge thanks to them for helping us with this endeavour to create habitats for nature’s vital insects.

Other tasks included trimming brambles around the bluebell area to ensure a good show of flowers; continuing with the cutting back around the perimeter of the car park which looks so much better now, especially with the addition of the bug house; and laying slabs underneath the two benches on Quarry Hill.

Refreshments were enjoyed at the end of the session with Julie’s yummy Madeira cake and flapjacks and to celebrate St David’s Day, Debra’s delicious Welsh cakes! A great time was had by all and lots of tasks completed thanks to the amazing volunteers.

Our April work party will incorporate Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean, so feel free to come along and pick some litter!

Work parties are usually held on the first Friday of each month, weather permitting. Tasks include litter picking, clearing paths and cutting back vegetation. Equipment is provided but please ensure you wear suitable clothing and footwear. The next events are scheduled for Friday 4th April and Friday 2nd May 10am – 12 noon, meet at the picnic table. Full details will be published on our Facebook page ‘Friends of Quarry Park’ or you can email us at thequarrypark@gmail.com or call us on 07546 595144.
