What a month, can you believe half the year is over? I can hear you say thank goodness for that! Normality has not yet returned but I am thankful for the few changes such as meeting up with others, businesses getting back to work and outdoor training sessions for all ages starting up again. We are currently awaiting information on further relaxing of restrictions following the news we have moved from level 4 to 3 so hopefully our cafes, bars and restaurants will receive some welcome news and hair and beauty salons can open again. They have been hit incredibly hard and I wish them all the very best of luck in rebuilding their businesses.

I am hopeful usual community events can start up again soon so if you want to share any information in the August issue, please let me know. The deadline for the August issue is Wednesday 15th July. The August issue will be distributed the weekend beginning 24th July. Keep safe everyone.

During the unprecedented circumstances of the last few months, the club has had to suspend all usual activities. However, this does not mean that work has stopped behind the scenes. With the amazing support of our parents and Ladies Team as well as our dedicated Committee, we have many exciting announcements for the upcoming season. Firstly, we can announce an exciting new move to what we hope will become our permanent home at Oakfield Park School. Our coaches and volunteers have been out working hard to prepare the pitches, ready for play to resume, hopefully within a few short weeks after a recent update from the FA. Also, we have been able to introduce two entirely new teams, Under 7s and Under 9s, in our efforts to continue to grow the club. This means that the Season 2020/2021 will now include U7s, U9s, U11s, U13s, U14s, U16s and our Open Age Ladies team for anyone 16+. Our Wildcats programme will also continue to run on Saturday mornings. This is a more fun based introduction to football for girls aged 4 to 11 Just before we had to finish, we had the exciting addition of two new FA Qualified Junior Female Referee’s, Jess and Rhiannon. They have completed their courses and as soon as they can get on the pitch, they both need to complete 5 matches in order to receive full certification. They will then be able to join #CharlieBreferee in running games not only for AGFC but any junior teams in the area, male or female. This is another amazing achievement for the club but even more so for the girls themselves seeing as though they are just 14 years old!! During our time away from the pitches, the club has been running many activities to keep our players on their toes. These have included toilet roll challenges, virtual training sessions and even a family quiz night, something that I think we are all hoping to continue due to having so much fun!! Having just celebrated our first anniversary at the club, we really do hope that nest season will be our biggest and best so far, beginning with our West Riding Girls Football League Finals weekend in early September which has sadly been put on hold since May. Our ultimate aim is to make Ackworth Girls Football Club accessible to female players of all ages and all abilities and we feel able to do this with the amazing continued support that we receive.

Oliver’s Journey to Beat Neuroblastoma and a community’s heart warming challenge to raise £230,000.

Oliver Stephenson eventually made it home on 12th June after spending over six weeks in hospital isolating with his Dad, James whilst having chemotherapy. Oliver now faces another gruelling week which will consist of a bone marrow biopsy, meeting the radiotherapy team, radioactive injection, MIBG scan and an MRI scan. His parents, Laura and James are hoping the high dose of chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant has eradicated the remaining 1% of cancer that Oliver had in April. If he is clear his next steps are a daily dose of radiotherapy for 3-5 weeks. Oliver will then move onto immunotherapy which lasts in the region of 5/6 months. Then finally if he is still clear of cancer he will travel to America for the Bivalent vaccine which will prevent the cancer from returning. Friends and family started up a fundraising page to cover the costs of the vaccine as well as travel and living expenses. So, fundraising began and oh my goodness, does Ackworth know how to do this in style! Not only have you had Covid to deal with and provided fantastic support to those in need, you have worked so hard, generating new ideas from running, walking, cycling, haircuts, sales of face masks, endless raffles, cake baking, scarecow displays, donations of meat for BBQ’s, crochet rainbows, face mask sales, donations from local businesses, teddy bear sales, the list goes on and on. Oliver is a hero no doubt, his bravery unimaginable and he clearly means so much to this community. Huge congratulations to you all, everyone of you who has made the effort to help Oliver and support his family. The love and support you offer is overwhelming. All of us here at The Arrow along with the amazing community of Ackworth and beyond have everything crossed for Oliver and his family and wish them all the very best for the future.

Criminals are exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic to try and get their hands on your money and personal information. To date, Action Fraud has received reports from 2,378 victims of Coronavirus-related scams, with the total losses reaching over £7 million. How you can protect yourself from Coronavirus-related scams: There are some simple steps you can take that will protect you from the most common Coronavirusrelated scams. Here’s what need to do: 1 - Watch out for scam messages Your bank, or other official organisations, won’t ask you to share personal information over email or text. If you receive an email you’re not quite sure about, forward it to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS): report@phishing.gov.uk 2 - Shopping online If you're making a purchase from a company or person you don't know and trust, carry out some research first, for example, by checking to see if others have used the site and what their experience was. If you decide to go ahead with the purchase, use a credit card if you have one, other payment providers may not provide the same protection. 3 - Unsolicited calls and browser pop-ups offering tech support Never install any software, or grant remote access to your computer, as a result of a cold call. Remember, legitimate organisations would never contact you out of the blue to ask for financial details such as your PIN or full banking password.

service. However, we understand the concerns people have about the opportunity for criminals to commit scams. What you need to know: Contact tracers will only call you from the number 0300 013 5000. Anyone who does not wish to talk over the phone can request the NHS Test and Trace service to send an email or text instead, inviting them to log into the web-based service. All text or emails sent by NHS Test and Trace will ask people to sign into the contact tracing website and will provide you with a unique reference number. We would advise people to type the web address https://contact-tracing.phe.gov.uk directly into their browser, followed by the unique reference number given to you, rather than clicking on any link provided in the message. The NHS Test and Trace service will never:

ask you to dial a premium rate number to speak to them (for example, those starting 09 or 087) ask you to make any form of payment or purchase a product or any kind ask for any details about your bank account ask for your social media identities or login details,

or those of your contacts

ask you for any passwords or PINs, or ask you to set up any passwords or PINs over the phone

ask you to download any software to your PC or ask you to hand over control of your PC, smartphone or tablet to anyone else NHS Test and Trace scams: ask you to access any website that does not belong The NHS Test and Trace service plays an to the government or NHS important role in the fight against coronavirus and If you think you have been a victim of fraud, please it’s vital the public have confidence and trust in the report it to Action Fraud at https://www.actionfraud.police.uk or byresponding calling 0300 123to2040. 10 Please mention “The Arrow” when advertisements
