Welcome to the June issue of Well done to everyone who has just taken their SATS exams in year 6. This is the end of what can be a really stressful time for young people (as well as teachers, parents and carers!). Also, good luck to everyone taking their GCSE’s and further education exams. It takes a lot of work and effort to achieve the grades you need but don’t forget to take a break, go outdoors and leave the screens behind, if only for an hour a day. After enjoying a wonderful treat of a day out walking in Derbyshire with a lovely friend, I was really pleased to see that the Ramblers do shorter walks for those of us who work or have family commitments. Find out more on their website. There is nothing better than a good walk somewhere new and even better when someone else has organised it. The deadline for the July issue is Wednesday 19th June. The July issue will be distributed the last weekend in June. Best wishes Michelle Sidebottom Mobile: 07795 387937 email:michelle@arrowpublications.co.uk

1st Ackworth Cubs 1st Ackworth Cubs Another new term is with us and the Cub section are already hard at work. The end of last term saw some of the Cubs working towards helping the local community - a section in their World Challenge Badge. They discovered all about food banks and the need locally for them. A collection of food items was made and donated to local food banks. When the goods were taken to the Co-op in Ackworth it filled the box there! The photo shows some of the Cubs with just a small sample of what was collected. To start this term Senior Sixer Joel Hanley was presented with his Chief Scout Silver Award, the highest a Cub can achieve. Joel is the fourth member of the group to have recently been awarded this honour, the others being, William Hart, Abi Graham and Kacper Gorol. To gain the award Joel achieved 7 Challenge badges, Adventure, Outdoor, Skills, World, Teamwork, Team Leader and a Personal Challenge. To achieve these Joel undertook and successfully passed such diverse things as climbing and orienteering, bouldering and hiking, camping and fire lighting, first aid and model making. He learned about other faiths and celebrated festivals from other countries. He also learned how to cook and tried new sports, Lacrosse and Curling. Other activities too numerous to mention here were also undertaken.

As well as achieving these Challenge badges, Joel also gained 11 other Activity badges. The Cub section are busy planning their Summer programme of activities. At the moment they are working towards their Road Safety Badge, and are looking forwards to many new outdoor and challenging activities during the Summer months, when they really will put the OUT into Scouting.
