Welcome to the July issue of .Well, what a watering we had in June,

preparing us for the heatwave in July and August (I hope!).

A huge well done to everyone involved in keeping Ackworth clean of litter. It’s great to see all the primary schools involved in this ongoing initiative, a powerful message for us all. We are all responsible for litter, just because you didn’t drop it...doesn’t excuse you from not picking up if you have the opportunity. The newly donated litter bins will be an extra incentive. Congratulations Ackworth. The deadline for the August issue is Wednesday 10th July. The August issue will be distributed the last weekend in July. Best wishes Michelle Sidebottom Mobile: 07795 387937 email:michelle@arrowpublications.co.uk

The Ackworth Big Spring Clean 2019 This campaign is responsible for the fantastic work that has taken place to collect & prevent litter in the village. Adam Fletcher the organiser of the Ackworth Big Spring Clean 2019 has been working closely with Wakefield Council and Ackworth School and events have been organised to collect & correctly dispose of litter from the village streets & countryside. A survey was conducted on the local “Ackworth live it love it” website as to where there was a need for more bins in the village & also a request for donations to purchase these bins. Nicknamed the “dirty dozen” 12 new bins ( maybe more ) will be arriving in the village shortly stickered with the logos of those who kindly donated. They will then be located in the areas identified in the survey as key locations requiring a bin! All 5 Primary Schools got involved with a litter pick w/c 24th June to benefit all in the village. They are doing a poster campaign, showing their before and after litter pick photographs, with some key messages

for local residents on keeping Ackworth tidy. These posters are expected to be available week commencing 8th July.

A BIG THANK YOU also to the silent army of litter pickers collecting every day & those that just take it amongst themselves to clean up the village & surrounding areas – you know who you are!

Your Community News DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG IN A CAR.

Pontefract Community Kitchen Local lady Claire Pointon is part of this wonderful project providing hot & cold drinks, hot food & puddings to eat in & takeaway for anyone who comes in including the homeless. They provide a network of help for people living on the streets things like pop up tents, sleeping bags, flasks, toiletries, etc. If anyone feels they are able to donate or offer support to this project please get in touch with Claire via Facebook.

Never leave your dog alone in a car on a warm day. If you see a dog in a hot car, if possible get someone to stay with the dog to monitor its condition. If it begins to display signs of distress or heatstroke call either 999 or RSPCA 24-hour cruelty line for advice on 0300 1234 99. However, if the dog is in danger, dialling 999 should always be the first step.

STOLEN DOGS The eagle eyed dog walking residents of Ackworth may have seen a number of signs warning people to be aware of potential dog nappers & this has then spread to social media creating fear within the community. Rumours of marks being left on the front of properties where pets live have been circulating & owners are becoming anxious for the safety of their animals. PCSO Lorraine Kavanagh confirmed at the Parish Council Meeting ( June )that there have been no reports of dogs being stolen and residents should not worry. Anyone with concerns should call 101.

Your Community News Ackworth 74 Club Summer Walk Cancelled! For the first time this century, bad weather meant the 74 Club cancelled their Summer Walk, a popular regular event on their Club Calendar. Instead Members met at the Masons’ Arms on Bell Lane for a Social Evening with Complimentary Buffet Supper and Quiz. Despite the wet and dreary evening, Members were in good spirits and there was much laughter and chatter as they settled down to enjoy the delicious buffet supplied by the Masons’ catering team. The General Knowledge Quiz was deemed to be quite demanding and therefore did promote much debate and discussion. So, regardless of the weather, Members agreed it had been a very successful and enjoyable evening! Thanks go to the Masons’ Arms Staff for making everyone so very welcome.
