Your Community News COLLEGE LANE SURGERY

Nordic Walking in the Evening

Join the Patient Participation Group (PPG) What is PPG? It is a representative group of patients, and other surgery users, who have joined together to help both the Surgery and the users improve the medical facilities at our Surgery.

Working in partnership with GPs and practice teams. PPG ensure the patient’s perspective is at the heart of local provision so that services are of high quality and continuously improve.

They meet every two months to discuss what is happening at the Surgery, any ongoing developments and areas of concern.

The Nordic walk group have started an evening walk. They are an extremely friendly bunch & welcome new members to join. Leaving BELL LANE car park every Wednesday at 6pm they walk for approx. 3-4 miles taking about 1 to 1 ½ hours.

Poles are provided, and instructions in Nordic walking if required. What a great way to spend a summer’s evening!

COLLEGE LANE SURGERY TARGET DATES The Surgery will be closed from 12 noon on the following dates – 18th September, 16th October & 13th November for staff training DID YOU KNOW? Two of the nursing Team at College Lane Surgery were nominated for local nursing awards.

Hannah Hunter, Healthcare Assistant , has won the innovation award category. Hannah was nominated for her hard work on Ear Care & has also been put forward to the regional awards.

Lesley Carlile, Practice Nurse, cam runner up in the Patient Driven Care category. Lesley was nominated for her work around prostap/learning difficulty/teen clinic.

Defibrillator Demonstration at Ackworth Community Centre Unfortunately we didn’t receive information in time to go to print but thought it was important that residents were made aware of this fantastic opportunity.

A demonstration of using the Defibrillator was held at Ackworth Parish Council Centre on Saturday 27th July at 10.30. I have been told that if successful more demonstrations are planned so keep reading the Arrow for updates.

UPDATE Dr. Jackson Cancer Fund – Ascot Ladies Day at Kings Croft A MASSIVE THANK YOU to all who supported, arranged, donated & attended this popular event.

A fantastic day was had by all and raised a total of £1856.00!

A BIG THANK YOU to Rory James Embling Foundation who have kindly made a donation to Ackworth Ladies Football Club.

The Ken Wright Challenge is a Six A Side Marathon supporting the Foundation & Ackworth Junior Football F.C. to be held on Sunday 1st September at Carr Bridge Playing Fields 10am. This event has the support of the Parish Council & residents are encouraged to go along and so their support.

ACKWORTH PRAM RACE The one we’ve all been waiting for!

SUNDAY 25th August 2019 Starting at Carr Bridge Playing Fields at 1pm the races follows the route of – Ego Restaurant The Masons Arms The Angel The Boot & Shoe FINISH LINE – Ackworth Cricket Club Remember some of these teams are fast and don’t take long to complete the circuit.

We are delighted to learn this event is going to be bigger & better than ever ( if that’s possible! ) This year sees live bands including Natural Antagonist, Shaun King & many more, Zorbing, Raffles, Stalls, all this at Ackworth Cricket Club ground.

Here Come The Girls Around two years ago the idea was passed around to introduce a girls section to Ackworth Juniors.

Fast forward to now and after just completing our first season in the West Riding Girls Football League, we have four established teams, Under 10s, Under 11s, Under 13s and Under 15s, with hopefully more to come. We've also just signed our first Open Age Ladies Team for ladies 15 plus to the league for their first season!!!

We hold SSE Wildcats sessions every Saturday morning for girls aged 5 to 11, making us the only all ages girls club in the local area!!! Therefore, the decision has recently been taken to establish Ackworth Girls Football Club in it's own right.

All members of staff are volunteers who give their free time and dedication to the girls. We hold no expectations and welcome anyone whatever their experience or ability!! Several of our coaches have their own children playing at the club, whilst a few have ail even stayed with us long after their own children have moved onto their next adventure.

We also have a close relationship with our nominated charity, The Rory James Emblings Foundation who work alongside CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), raising money and awareness for heart screening for young people and adults aged 14 to 35 as this is something not offered by the NHS. All members of staff at the club hold all relevant FA Safeguarding and CRB checks in place.

There is a very social side to the club also, with Free collection & delivery in Badsworth events, days out, tournaments and annual (small charge out of area. Please enquire) presentations.

With no need for any sort of trials, the club is a Quick turnaround time per warm and welcoming atmosphere to be in.

Ackworth Juniors Football Club won the Premier League Kicks tournament which took place at the Keepmoat Stadium in the evening of May 21.

The tournament was made up of 20 teams including grassroots teams, Kicks teams, and local schools team who all competed well throughout the event.

The competitive group stage was followed by two semi-finals, with winners Ackworth knocking out Sheffield Wednesday en route to the final. The other semi-final saw Hallcross Academy defeat Doncaster Schools in a dramatic penalty-shootout with 20 penalties taken before the tie could be decided.

The final was decided by just one goal but the West Yorkshire side were deserved winners for their expansive, clinical football.

Guinness World Record holder, Ash Randall, performed some mind-blowing skills for the players to try and match and students from the Club Doncaster Sports College helped run the event, scoring and timing the games.

The Foundation’s sport development officer, Mark Cooper said: “It was great to see so many grassroots and local teams from other football club charities come down to the Keepmoat Stadium and take part.

“The entire event ran smoothly from start to finish, with the Sports College students doing a fantastic job of scoring and refereeing the games.

“The football on display was first class, and every team showed great sportsmanship throughout.”
