WELCOME

Welcome to the fifth edition of The Edit: Memphis Fashion Week Edition. We are so excited to share with you Arrow’s new Creative Central. We welcome in, and release back into the region, generations of future creatives through Arrow’s doors. Growing a home specifically for all creative entrepreneurs will ensure that Memphis continues to be a city known for culture, creativity, and forward-thinking.

Arrow is an open resource for the community to feel engaged as lifelong arts enthusiasts. Building upon the fashion design courses created by Memphis Fashion Week at Memphis College of Art, Arrow is growing the offerings and clientele to become a regional draw through programming from hobbyist classes, to weeklong master courses, as well as certificate programs building workforce development for creative industries.

As an organization that encourages creative’s growth through business and arts educational components, retail and studio space, we are so excited to bring to Memphis for the tenth year, the Emerging Memphis Designer Project. This year’s shows will focus on our local talent that is blossoming right here in Memphis. With a new program at the University of Memphis and our fashion lab ready and accessible, we know that this year’s shows will be unlike any other.

Memphis’ Creative Central Arrow Creative,

the parent organization of Memphis Fashion Week, is a resource for Memphis Creatives to make, learn, shop and meet. Located in the Cooper Young Historic District, one of the original creative districts in Memphis, Arrow is a premier source of creative entrepreneur enrichment, arts education, and art immersion for the entire community. We seek to make art more accessible in order to inspire the creative spirit in all Memphians.

While Arrow spun out of the movement from Memphis Fashion Week and the Memphis Fashion Design Network, it is more than just fashion. We are a multi-faceted organization dedicated to promoting creativity of all kinds. This organization brings together Memphis designers, makers, photographers, fine artists, and creative entrepreneurs to form a one-roof creative district in the heart of Memphis.

“A space like this is vital for creatives all over, but especially for here in Memphis,” said Memphis jeweler of IV, David Quarrels. “We’re getting back to our roots, welcoming the resurgence of makers. So,

a place to create, collaborate and make money as an artist is something we’re all looking forward to. (Arrow) will help us all to continue to breed the atmosphere of community that our creatives need; that our city needs.”

Many makers in Memphis find themselves without the resources and space they need to create. Since our opening we have worked to make Arrow a place for artists to grow as solo entrepreneurs in Memphis. Arrow provides to the art enthusiast as well as the creative entrepreneur, equipment, classes, work space, gallery exhibitions, creative studios, and a retail area to create a thriving center where art and business merge.

The Emerging Memphis Design Project is in it’s tenth year of supporting and growing local fashion designers and this year’s class has not had it easy. From cancelled runways to zoom calls to masked fittings, EMDP designers are “making it work.” The designs they have worked on with EMDP liaison Ramona Sonin Myatt over the past year and a half showcase the diversity of creativity and style that Memphis has to offer. Myatt says of the program “There is a growing fashion community here in Memphis and I am proud to be a part of it by working with the emerging designers and MFW as well as through fashion education at the University of Memphis.” The EMDP gives aspiring Memphis designers the opportunity to network with other creatives in the community as well as receiving feedback of their designs in frequent critiques through the process. “Being able to recognize and celebrate these impressive upcoming Memphis designers and creatives is absolutely my favorite part!” says Myatt. Memphis is known for its Grit and Grind, but these designers are bringing the Grit and Glam to the runway.
